I think also besides deceiveing her it was the fact that what he did betraying them was that he made her felt like half-a-witch, idk it was the guilt of making the other feel as miserable as u felt without being on purpose what maybe hunted him down with guilt and remarked as one of the worst experiences he's had We can see him have this kind of symphaty/empathy/caring for others like in Latissa with Luz when he warns her to get away from wild magic bf she gets hurt and then protecting her from kiki
imo, for a 'teen prodigy' raised in the military, who admits he's into 'authority and rules', and who lives on the daily as part of a strict chain of command, the term 'captain' would mean more to him than just the title of the head of a sports team: it'd have the connotations of a relationship between a soldier and his captain. someone he trusts to make wise decisions and someone he respects deeply, because he's given her that trust. it'd be one of the highest compliments hunter's given on the show, if not the highest.

I think these two are just perfect together. They both are so protective of each other, it's so cute! It's a shame the show is being cut short, we definitely would've gotten to see more of them if we had a longer season 3/season 4. But with the episodes we have left, I'm hoping we see their relationship develop more, and hopefully have them becoming canon by the end.
They don't Necessarily need to be Canon in the some way Luz and Amity are they don't need to become boyfriend and girlfriend as long as we establishes they like each other it can be assumed they will get together without actually rushing it 💚💛💚💛
What I found super interesting is that Hunter was able to tell quite quickly that the 'Willow' from the illusion was not the real one, and that despite Gus being a much longer-term friend of Willow, was incapable of telling the difference (though I am aware that Gus is fairly young, and the differences were vague, so it makes sense that he didn't know) it just shows that Hunter is not only extremely observant, but has also learned picked up on the specific behaviours of Willow, and I think that's very sweet.
I think it was also because willow had only recently started to become more confident and because Gus had known her longer he didn't find shy, timid willow strange. Whereas hunter had only known strong confident willow and so her old behaviours were strange to him.
It may also be because they remember willow for different things. Sure, both of them know she is strong and brave, but Gus more primarily knows her for how kind and thoughtful she is. Since Hunter (at that point) mainly identified her by those strong character traits, it makes sense why he was able to realise when they weren’t there
I love how Hunter’s blushing around Willow gets more and more apparent over time - from tiny little lines in Any Sport in a Storm to bright red face and ears in King’s Tide 😁
I remember seeing a piece of fan art with those two together and thought nothing of it until “any sport in a storm,” and geez, Hunter and Willow got me hooked
Something I love is that every character that's close to Hunter has realized to some degree where his trauma is at. He doesn't protect himself where Belos is concerned, he just freezes right up. Luz noticed this and stood in front of Kikimora to defend him when Kiki was talking about Belos snapping him in half (and of course she took his place, because being brought to Belos would've been the worst possible thing for him). We see it when Gus calls Hunter's name to remind him they're there when Hunter has to force himself to tread over Belos's gooey body. And we see it here, when Belos is about to slash at everyone, Hunter just closes his eyes and doesn't move. He did that before when Belos cut off a piece of his hair. He's used to freezing up and just taking the abuse. Willow shields him without a second thought 7:44 . These people don't know what Hunter's been through fully, but they've given him coping mechanisms, they stick up for him when people say triggering things, and they protect him when he's too afraid or too conditioned to the abuse to protect himself.

There was a cut scene confirmed by cissy Jones (Lilith) and some others on her most recent post hoot, where when Luz went to go up and see Amity, hunter went to follow only for willow and Gus to give them privacy. He didn't know why and they (or flapjack, idr) proceeded to tell him he would understand when he's older. Then arguing with flapjack about how he's older than all of them and he wants answers, and that's when it cuts to Luz and Amity looking out the window to see them all, and hunter all annoyed bc of the Convo. We see it when Gus calls Hunter's name to remind him they're there when Hunter has to force himself to tread over Belos's gooey body. And we see it here, when Belos is about to slash at everyone, Hunter just closes his eyes and doesn't move. He did that before when Belos cut off a piece of his hair. He's used to freezing up and just taking the abuse. Willow shields him without a second thought 7:44 .
These people don't know what Hunter's been through fully, but they've given him coping mechanisms, they stick up for him when people say triggering things, and they protect him when he's too afraid or too conditioned to the abuse to protect himself.
