Bro, no local eats a sweet lángos :p You supposed to have the sour cream cheese garlic one, thats the banger. And usually its half the price, even at pricier places. And yes, it is a whole meal, not a treat after you ate 😅

The smoky flavor is added to the sausage in the traditional way. The finished sausage is suspended and placed in a chamber filled with the smoke of a beech tree. It stays here for about 2-3 days and the smoked sausage is ready.
Only cheap brands use smoke flavoring (called liquid smoke).
Chili is called paprika here. Not only the flavoring powder, but also the whole plant. Everyone here knows that cream as " erős pista (strong stevie) . It's a classic flavoring.
Watch out for him because he can be tricky. As well as the small dry peppers that can be given/taken separately too.
The potted potato is a main dish here, and it is usually eaten for lunch. Along with such dishes, some pickled side dish is usual (cabbage, peppers, mixed chopped vegetables, beets). This helps to digest fatty food.
A traditional lunch consists of a soup, a main course and cookies.
The lángos is a typical breakfast dish. With sour cream, garlic and grated cheese. All other versions are not traditional.
We eat out of hand just like you did.

If someone wants to try lángos, it should be: garlic spread (garlic, water, salt, some oil as far as I know), tejföl (hungarian sour cream), trappista cheese!
No random tourist trap toppings, no weird stuff.

Alas, the "büfé falatozó" called Pléh Csárda advertised by Bourdain does not do any justice to good Hungarian schnitzel. It may be larger than your face, but you can bet it doesn't taste as good as home made schnitzel at the table of any Hungarian family. Sides should be boiled potatoes flavoured with fresh parsley leaves and cucumber salad, not french fries.

Out of all the countries you have visited in Eastern/Central Europe which ones had the best/tastiest food in your opinion?
I have personally been to Serbia recently and really enjoyed the Cevapi there. Did not try Pleskavica though.

Brave choice putting the chili sauce on the potato dish... we would normally put sour cream on it. The salty chilli sauce is mainly for other stuff served on the side, added at own responsibility :)

Sahme on you for the langos tho...
Only thing meant to be on it are garlic oil, sour cream and cheese.
      Everything else is sacrilege!

Man, no way a Lángos should cost almost 5000 HUF you got scammed at some tourist trap place lmao.
Also, never heard of one with BANANAS on top... The OG one is garlic and/or sour cream and/or cheese.
I'm actually sort of ashamed, even after all the inflation in recent years a lángos shouldn't cost more than ~1500 HUF MAXIMUM. Except for tourist trap places.

Not everything in Hungary is closed on Sundays. This is just stupid. The majority of Hungarians do not like chili, and restaurants also force it because of tourists. Langos is sweetly horrible. It is usually eaten with onions, sour cream, cheese and possibly a couple of things that go with it. You bought the worst langos in the most expensive place.

Anything else, then cheese garlic and sour cream on lángos is absolute heresy, and you should be shamed of yourself.

It's not hot. That's a bunch of crap for foreigners. Why haven't you tried the traditional Hungarian lángos?
