I love my ally, and I know it's not "perfect", but I think ASUS has done a really good job with the first iteration, and I hope things only go up for the product in the future.
Performance between the Z1E and the X are going to be very similar, so I think it really comes down to do you want to pay extra for better battery life? There's also "rumors" of new models sometime in 2025, with the newly announced Z2 extreme processors, so it's also worth considering if you wanted to wait for that.
I have been VERY interested in a legion go for a while, but think I may hold out until the 2. I'm waiting got see what information we get during CES at the start of 2025.
@@DiAngelo. For which game specifically? MOST games, I try and play at default settings (within the game) and at 720p. Then I can try and tweak accordingly
For great performance AND less heat, you're probably off with some older games or indie games. Newer AAA titles can push the limits of the Ally, in turn pushing the heat up. I have read that people have set custom fan curves which may help with this, but I've never done it. Could be useful information for you though
I'm planning to get rog ally but not sure if i can record in 1440p 60fps or not while connecting it with capture card and pc. can you please help and tell me
@@Saipan8211 God of war and emulators run well on both (and the steam deck has better battery life). BUT CoD will not play on the steam deck unless you install windows (which I haven't). So with that alone, you may want to consider the Ally since it's a Windows device.
That's tough, bc there are many factors (what operating mode you're using, what resolution, are you playing an indie game or a newer AAA game?). Overall though, the battery life on the Z1 extreme is NOT great. If this is what you're looking for, you may want to look into the Ally X, OR see what improvements we may see with the next generation (which are rumored to come out next year).
It's not going to be as good as a gaming PC or laptop, but I still think it's good (for a handheld device). Performance is going to be near as good as you can get (for now).

Definitely agree with what you're saying. I think this device is "good" for its first iteration, but there's A LOT of room to improve. Rumors are the "Ally 2" may come out next year, so I'm curious to see what improvements we'll see with that.
You can play a lot of indie games at 120fps, a lot of older AAA games (if you have backlogs) will run above 80fps. I'm glad they didn't skimp out on the refresh rate. 120hz is necessary in this day and age.
More so because when this first launched in the summer of 2023, it was just this or the steam deck LCD. But since then, there's more handhelds on the market, including the upgrade Ally X, so there's a lot of options to choose from.
A pc device with only one port is crazy & it makes no sense. For that reason alone you should stay away from the original Alley. Plus a 512 GB hard drive is like not having a drive at all in 2024. That’s why you need another port for the external HDD. Except… this is the worst device I have ever seen running games of an external HDD anyway. It legit cannot run most ubisoft games from off a hard drive & those games should run. I get that in general not 100% of games will run off external harddrives properly, but something like Tom Clancy’s Wildlands should run. Yet it doesn’t. Your games are gonna stutter off a hard drive there is no internal storage & storage options cost a fortune. A 4 tb external SSD costs $300
Is there an adapter to use 2280 ssd, it's very cheap and easy to install. And 2280 ssd nowadays are very inexpensive and great to have. Also there is micro sd support which will in most cases be better and outperform the external (and also a common internal) HDD from desktop The only downfall for the ally for me os battery life, that remember me of those old gaming laptops. It can run alan wake 2 tho 😂 I totally miss another usb c port but most ppl will use a dock which extends that, and they fixed all these 2 problems with rog ally x… So far an awesome device my daily gaming drive
