When Elvis smoothly holds onto & elevates "mind" flawlessly to the very end, it just leaves me breathless. Simply sensational 👌 👏
I still say that Elvis sings this song better then Simon and Garfunkel ! many argue with me on this but it is just the Truth!
Even Paul Simon said so
@@bertsplci Yep he said "how can you compete with that!" when he heard Elvis sing it! James Taylor wrote steam Roller Blues but Elvis made that song his own also, its amazing how he crafts a song and makes it better than the original version.
Hmmm, I'm surprised at that. S&G wrote a beautiful piece, but they never had the voice of Elvis.
Elvis gave many things too his and other's communities, he had a great heart. Especially to the black community.
Backing vocals by The Sweet Inspirations with Cissy Houston
I have switched off after a few seconds, in tears,
first time i saw this Britt! You are great! I watched a few more videos love it and you are beautiful!
Luv your reactions, a great group called Bread, listen to "If" and "Guiter Man"...
Listen to that first first...listen to that first verse.
His phrasing on the first refrain "like a"". You caught one of the golden parts for sure. It's so great and perfect, it always brings tears to my eyes. He covered this song several times, but this is his best version without a doubt. This version beats the original, something I never thought would be done when first heard it.
a little different to So Hyang's version but it was nice
There is only one elvis no one come close The King The best The only
Paul Simon who wrote and sang this song was startled to discover that Elvis had taken on a song he’d written, although he did say it was a “touch on the dramatic side, but so was the song”. He continued, stating: “When I first heard Elvis perform ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, it was unbelievable. I thought to myself: ‘How the hell can I compete with that?'”
If I remember correctly, Paul Simon actually saw Elvis perform this live in person at Madison Square Garden.
@@stevedahlberg8680 oh I think he was definitely a fan
Wake up folks! Paul Simon did write the song, but the original was sung by Art Garfunkel, Paul's partner in crime. Elvis did an amazing job, but I have yet to hear a cover that can best the original. The closest I've heard was a jazz version by Eva Cassidy.
@@richardfarrell3460 I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkles' original version and have always loved it. It was one of those albums that were always on replay for me, however when I heard the Elvis version I was blown away, why you may ask, for me it was the passion and his ability to express the feelings of the song. At the end of the day, we are all touched and moved by different things in our life . We are all different creatures with different tastes, needs, desires, etc so our opinions are subjective, but I do believe that Simons opinion carried more weight as they were his words that were being expressed.
I find Simon`s statement slightly overexaggerated.
Yes, Elvis` version is great but so is the original - recorded or live.
S&G were masters in their own right.
When Paul Simon heard Elvis sing this he said it was the most perfect version sung
I said the same thing in my comment. We are thinking the same. LOL.
@@davidcohen7146 I commented on that as well, while Marty Lacker had told me Paul said to Art, "WTF are we going to do now?"
Paul Simon said how I'm I suppose to follow that
When Elvis covered your song it became his from then on!
John Lennon said ''before Elvis there was nothing''. Elvis Presley is the King of music for a reason. Elvis could sing anything any kind of music, The Icon, The Legend, The untouchable. King of music Elvis Aaron Presley. 1935--Till the end of time
What a beautiful man with a beautiful voice and an even more beautiful heart ... there'll never be another like him ! Rest in peace Elvis and Lisa Marie ... together again for eternity .
A shame he went så early... He was amazing...
His voice comes straight from God and pierces thru your heart! Elvis was incredible, too bad he left this world so young.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the greatest of all men - notwithstanding I love Elvis, as was.
If I asked a billion people whom they would rather meet.... Whom would you rather meet ?
@@dogwithwigwamz.7320 KING OF KINGS...AND THEN THE King
Every one who performed with Elvis were Special in their own right from background singers The Sweet Insperations J.D.Summers and the Stamps to James Burton Glen Harmon on Piano Jerry Sheiff And the Joe Curcio orchestra also Charlie Hodge
Paul Simon was the original singer of this song. After Elvis did it, Simon said this song was no longer his as there was no way he could do the song as good as Elvis did. Now that is the ultimate compliment.
Elvis Presley was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame so it's no surprise that his music comes from a spiritual place inside of him. He is the only artist to be successful in Rock N Roll, Country and Gospel and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for each genre. He didn't like being called the King but he really was.
He sings this song like a hymn. He loved gospel music and sang it a lot. He had some of the best back up singers in the business at the time.
@Kenneth W
This song was written and performed by Simon & Garfunkel.
It is not a gospel song.
@Le Chat I believe Kenneth w is saying is that Elvis sang this song the way he would sing a gospel hymn and it was Brilliant👌
@@lechat8533 I know that lol Was saying Elvis sang it as if it was.
@@lechat8533 yes, and Paul was in the audience and famously said afterward, "How the hell can we compete with that?!"
@@valmacclinchy Although, tbh, at that point Paul was no longer on good terms with Art, and this probably impacted his opinion a lot.
Try,Walk A Mile In My Shoes, by Elvis.
Elvis is timeless. his spirit still touching and exiting through the screen. I am not sure if he knew how big is the impact he had on millions of people through generations. He is the G.O.A.T.
good luck to you with the Elvis journey.
❤️ He was pure magic
I was never a fan of this song until I heard Elvis's version now its one of my favourites .
Agree
Same
Elvis also makes this performance seem effortless, he was truly one of a kind
How great Thou art by Elvis Presley ❤️❤️❤️
There's a quote... if you're a fan, no explanation is necessary. If you're not a fan, explanation is impossible... glad you are getting in to Elvis. Enjoy your journey. Thankfully, so much footage out there. Apparently, Paul Simon, who wrote the song, said Elvis's version was the best. That's true praise.
Elvis arranged this song his way. He has a natural vibrato. There's rehearsal footage showing how he wanted this song done
Hi Britt what now my love is a great song by elvis Presley you will love it!
We Elvisfans LOVE YOU!
I love you all back!!
@@brittreacts please react to Dave Allen, Airplanes. It is on the channel Simon Tilley and has over 3.8million views. Dave Allen is a UK legend and is absolutely hilarious. You will never look at flying in the same way again. He takes the most ordinary things and makes you see the ridiculousness and also the funny side of it. 🇬🇧😁
@@brittreacts Great reaction Britt! Elvis Presley was born to sing & entertain. Elvis had God given talents with his beautiful Voice & God given good looks until 1976. Elvis lost his good looks due to ALL of the intense tours, bad diet & drugs just to be able to sleep & get up for a concert. It was a damn shame that his manager worked Elvis into the ground literally with Elvis having to do 2 shows a day while in Las Vegas for years, to pay off his managers own gambling debts. That's the 100% truth. Elvis never lost his God given voice that he had until the very end. Elvis Presley used ALL of his God given talents for good. There is a reason that the World revered this man & referred to Elvis Presley as "The King"🎶🎙
@@brittreacts Have you ever reacted to "You Gave Me a Mountain" or "American Trilogy" from "Aloha from Hawaii" from 1973? You NEED to Britt.💙
Britt- Thanks for finally getting around to this one. Bridge is one of the greatest songs ever and one of Elvis greatest covers ever. You should check out the original artists of this one Simon and Garfunkel. There version is great to but nothing like Elvis. Even Paul Simon said after he heard Elvis perform it live how could anyone ever do it better than that. How Great Thou Art by Elvis live in 72 should be your next reaction.
Elvis Presley - The Jaycees Speech ---------
When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer.
I read comic books, and I was the hero of the comic book. I saw movies, and I
Was the hero in the movie. So every dream I ever dreamed has come true a hundred
Times. These gentlemen over there, these are the type who care, are dedicated.
You realize if its not possible that they might be building the kingdom,
Its not far-fetched from reality. Id like to say that I learned
Very early in life that:
'Without a song the day would never end
Without a song a man aint got a friend
Without a song the road would never bend
Without a song... '
So I keep singing a song.
Good night.
Thank you.
Raised in the projects in Memphis lived in all black communities he had soul
There will never be another like the King. His voice, his presence, his gorgeous God-like looks. I am so grateful to have been born into an Elvis loving family and brought up to appreciate his greatness.
Elvis was a gift from God to all of us...
You should do a reaction video to Elvis Presley & Black community - That Echo Will Never Die.
Did you know that one of Elvis's back up singers is Whitney Houston mom?
The lovely Cissy Houston.
She was only with him in 1969 for 5 to 6 weeks then she left to bring up her family but the sweet inspirations were with him from 69 up to the day he passed
I love to see the younger generation find Elvis. I’m 60 and grew up as a child loving Elvis. I had no idea how special he was until later in my older years. He is generational.
Me too scot .
I’m 50 and grew up in Elvis Family and could care less . Watched the searchers 3 yrs ago. I said i better learn more about this man . Been going down the E.P. Ever since . One of a kind and truly divinely inspired. Not one since and i doubt one in the future.
I may have mentioned this about 'Bridge' before. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel originally wrote and performed it, and it was a #1 which they would also later use as a major number in their shows. So, they had heard Elvis was doing it and decided to see him live. While after the performance, Paul turned to Art and said, "OK, so WTF do we do now," as Elvis had elevated another hit to a whole other level which was also one of his gifts.
Elvis, was a great entertainer one of the best friend's a song ever had a great voice and feeling he put in a song when he done it, Thank You for this reaction
This song and performance is perfection!!!
Best version of this song.
I have just found your channel while looking for Elvis reactions and I love it… welcome to Elvis ❤ he is gorgeous, talented, mesmerising and he was so humble also…
Maybe try a reaction to ‘One Night with you’… 🥵 he knew how to work it 💥❤️🎸
Elvis is always very connected & works so HOLISTICALLY with his band to the point where he keeps going as a Maestro, leading an orchestra relishing in every beat 💓 of that tune till the very end 🎵 💞 Truly a passionate artist 🥰 His passion is contagious, his voice is velvety & his some of performances, like this one, is so captivating. He effortlessly lures you in 😂
Awesome 👍
I love your review! I only started to appreatiate Elvis recently, as he was extraordinary alive performer....little bit of trivia , one of the back up vocal performers was Whitney Houston mom Cissy
Amazing Performance! ELVIS the greatest of all time! His voice is pure magic and his looks out of this world! Thank you!
With the sweat on his face, the way he kept looking upwards, and the level of soul he put in his vocal delivery, I thought Elvis looked like a man possessed by the spirit as he sang.
GOD GAVE ALL OF US ELVIS so give us more happiness !
He is fine forsure and nobody could out do him singing till this day he's still the king.
Very well said ❤❤ from Sweden
Most the music by Elvis in the 70s was recorded from his live performances...and the amount of concerts he did in succession is just unimaginable--the power and consistency of his voice is truly a work of God. It's sad to see how quickly his health fell about from the rigorous schedule Col Parker committed for him. Part of that was not only performing live, but also contracts to produce 2-3 albums per year! To make that happen, this is why in his final years almost all of his albums were recorded live. However, the blessing is that now we all can hear how powerful and beautiful his voice is----time after time, concert after concert.
I hope that more people find these videos to learn how great of a singer, but even more, how AWESOME he was as a performer. He was funny, soulful, and generous with his fans. I am grateful to have been a 70s kid to grow up in the Elvis generation, and I still get goosebumps and watch in awe of Elvis---the legend!
True story. Elvis' vabrato was so unique that he literally couldnt be auto tuned. The vibrato covered too many cords and it would have confused the software. SO he was never auto tuned
Autotune didn´t exists at that time, and if, Elvis didn´t need it.
Autotune didnt exist while Elvis was alive....halfway the 80's autone was used
Elvis, Elvis!!!! gracias, tu voz, tu pasión por la música, gracias, tus interpretaciones, tus actuaciones, gracias y miles de gracias por ser tan diferente, tan único, tan hermoso y tan imposible de imitar. Gracia Elvis Presley. ÚNICO Y TAN TAN ACTUAL.
Great reaction as always, Britt! Thank you for that🙂Please react to Elvis YOU´VE LOST THAT LOVIN´ FEELING, live 1970. Thank you😊
Beautiful song. He always makes them his own.
Ladies and gentlemen..Just the King. No autotune no effects, Just his incredibile voice.
Just fantastic love Elvis's version of this song l also love the piano part great reaction it's so easy to fall in love with Elvis thank you 😊
Love that piano. His smile just breaks you!
Some of the smirks and grins that he does while singing, his voice EVEN amazed himself. He along with everyone else knew that it was a GIFT FROM GOD!!!!!!
You can do a reaction to the documentary "Elvis and the black community"
Love your reaction as usual. You can feel the emotion and passion of his voice. More please 💕💕💕💕
Have you reacted to Elvis and the Black community? It is eye opening. I was amazed .please do
4:50 As the singer, I thought you might appreciate the fact that what he does in his final verse, Sail on Silver girl, is he makes the decision to jump up to what would normally be the Harmony Part and he makes that delayed and then he has his singers work around that instead and it's just another of those things that makes him such a brilliant arranger. He arranged his own songs and that's an aspect of Elvis that people don't often talk about and he was extremely extremely gifted at it. He could also play several instruments and he was a good musician even though he didn't really focus on that in his live performances.
Great point. He didn't get the credit he deserved for the arrangement of his songs and performances
35 years old and on top of the world , Britt do some reactions to his raw savage years from 55 to 58
It’s such a blessing watching you discover and appreciate these special performances !!!
Watch elvis ,in his rehearsal singing this song , he may have never written a song ,but his arrangement , with his orchestra, his band ,and backup singers ,totally amazing
You should react to Simon & Garfunkel in the original version of this. The live versions are also amazing, but the original version from the album is a masterpiece that can't be matched.
I’m from England, never got to see him I was only nine when he died but I still listen to him today.❤
What did Paul Simon say about Elvis singing Bridge Over Troubled Water?
Simon praised the "dramatic" version of the song in a 1972 interview. He added: "But so was the song. When I first heard Elvis perform Bridge Over Troubled Water it was unbelievable." He went on to berate himself, however, saying: "I thought to myself: 'How the hell can I compete with that?'Oct 25, 2022
Amazing Elvis! He arranged his music as well which is a lessor known fact about EP. His church choir influences are apparent in this rendition as well…He simply blows me away… and he is fine ! Lol❤
Just found your channel through this song. I'm a very long time Elvis fan and you know, he still is been under estimated by a lot of people. Like this song, in the gospel kind of way, he really believes when he is singing, that is why you get goosebumps with most of his live performances. Thx for being a "believer"😉👊👍.
1975 New Years Eve a 10 year old me sat with my mom and dad in the Pontiac Silverdome watching Elvis play to his largest live audience ever!!! For the last 20 years I've realized the GREATNESS I witnessed!!!
Funny we always realize how great or nice things were when they are gone. But in my case I never had the privilege of seeing him live and I was just a little older than you when he passed in 1977. The shock was there for over a year world wide. People just couldn’t accept it and for decades if you recall Elvis sightings were everywhere.
@@claudiocorleone7856 especially in Kalamazoo for some reason! In my home state!!!???
His voice sounds as good as the other musical instruments.
Only as Elvis can do enertain, beautiful.
We miss Elvis Presley so much and sometimes I imagine him singing in a angel band in heaven because he sure was given a wonderful gift from God with such a beautiful voice
This is a beautiful cover version of this song. Another good song of his is "In the Ghetto." Elvis was born very poor in Tupelo, Mississippi in a 2 room house. His twin brother was born stillborn a few minutes earlier than him. he was very close to his parents and had a gospel upbringing.
Simon & Garfunkel's version was a massive hit and Aretha Franklin's has a very sucessful gospel-inspired version of this song but Elvis gives the song a bit of a haunting sound imo. All 3 are remembered almost as if they were different songs. And they were all released within a couple of years of year other.
You're so adorable! I love your reactions! Elvis was the king of EVERYTHING! I was born in 1967, so I was lucky to know of him before he died. Such a special man and so much heartache. His life was not his own, but he loved to make the audience happy. When he was on stage, it wasn't about the money, it was about the people who came out to see him. He shared his soul and gave it away
Thanks very much for your reaction. Have you seen him do. Return to sender? It's quite popular.
I am 57 years old and my mom has since passed away several years ago. I still remember when I was younger my mom was one of the OG PDC members of the Elvis Presley rage. He did have an amazing voice and was a very amazing performer.
So beautiful. There's no one like Elvis. Thanks for catching the Elvis fever!
Elvis: Fame and Fortune live in 1960. th-cam.com/video/mZRjyqGer9Q/w-d-xo.html
It's one of his best live performances during his younger days. His voice was so sweet and angelic, it's crazy. It would be a great reaction.
… ELVIS is unmatched to this day and will probably also be in the future! I've never heard a better male voice than that of Elvis ... ✨💎✨ Thank you
Beautiful voice 😍 x
First of all, I am really impressed by your reactions, not just Elvis but you have a talent for both music and comedy reactions. Thats rare, as a person who subscribes to many reaction channels, I must say your quality into both music and comedy reactions are really great. You make it look easy and i know its not.
I'd humbly request a song called my mind, sung by yebba, live version. But it's really intense so be prepared for that.
Anyways thanks for the great content 🙂
Elvis knew where his gifts and blessings came from. And he really gave it up for the Lord when he sang. God bless ya, girl and keep up the good work.
I honestly can’t imagine a better performance of a song.
Neither could Paul Simon..
This cover is flipping perfect!!
Try "disturbed" live on the Conan O'Brien show singing another S&G song "sound of silence",that performance will blow your mind ✌️
THANK YOU for this beautiful reaction.
The original was written and recorded by Simon & Garfunkel in 1964, and it is a Masterpiece that I immediately fell in love with when I heard it so many years ago.
Years later, I heard Elvis` version which didn`t really convince me at that time. Although I was an Elvis fan, in my mind, there was nobody who could top Simon & Garfunkel`s original version.
Now, that I`m older, I see their and Elvis` version as two different songs.
S & G`s version is like a musical Trip for me.
Elvis` version is a demonstration of who he was. It`s as though the song was written for him.
He has always been the one to be "A Bridge Over Troubled Water" for others. He lived the lyrics of this song, and that`s why I ALWAYS get goosebumps when I listen to his version. When he knew that someone was in need of help he acted instantly. That`s something the Simon & Garfunkel version doesn`t do for me. But their version is extremely beautifully made and I am their fan. It`s incredible how powerful and at the same time gentle their music is.
I think everybody should listen to them. Even in 2023, their music undeniably stands out. They were one of a kind.
BRITT! Now that you've seen this, and I don't know whether you would react to it or not but just for your personal gratification, and just because I know that you're a musician and a singer, I know you would absolutely totally dig this and you could see what I meant in my earlier comment about how Elvis doesn't get enough conversation usually especially on reaction channels about the fact that he was such a great arranger of his material.
And so here is a rare and wonderful bit of rehearsal footage when they are literally working out the exact arrangement for Bridge Over Troubled Water that you just reacted to at the live Vegas show. It is so fascinating.
And having played in bands my whole life, I know it's Elvis and these guys are really good, but it rings so true. It is so real.
This is a real practice. There's some humor and goofing around, but there's also some really serious effort and just really trying to get it right, and it's great because he's literally making things up as he goes and deciding on arrangements.
My favorite bit is when he finally hits on the idea of having the backing choirs do "when you need a friend", not in unison with him like they were starting to, but rather as a response to his call, call and echo style from the old gospel stuff. It's just so fun! And Oh Lord, dig those 1970 fro's with some of his band members and backing choir! That totally freaking rocks.
m.th-cam.com/video/dn89JS4FEu0/w-d-xo.html
I’m so surprised the younger generation is listening to Elvis. After So many years after he departed. Yeah I’m a Elvis fan since 1968 I was 9 years old. Ps you have a fantastic smile 😢
Try Suspicious Minds from 1970 😍, your reactions of Elvis is the same as mine❤.
I love the way you have followed, love with Elvis, because now you know how we feel that have grown up around him. He is truly a man of God.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He was like no other and the millions of people that make their way from all over the world to visit Graceland illustrates the unique impact he had and still has.
Trivia : Only the White House is visited more than Graceland per year.
The man had perfect pitch.
Subscribed on this one! I was raised on Elvis my mother made sure of that. She saw him 5 times in concert...can you imagine that. Of course since I was a teenager I thought I was too cool to go...yes, I was young and dumb!! Thanks for the great review and keeping Elvis in the spot light!
While true Elvis didn’t write songs…his arrangement of them is amazing.
Love your Elvis Reactions Britt, perhaps you could react to Elvis singing, Precious Lord Take My Hand? I think you would like it.
Larry Knechtel received a Grammy for his piano work on this Simon & Garfunkel hit. Larry was a member of Bread and the world-famous Wrecking Crew.
Hey britt, I'm loving your passion for Elvis,Steve Thirroul
When my nephew was about five or six maybe, he heard Elvis for the first time and he was instantly a fan. He wanted to see all his videos on TH-cam. He asked if Elvis still did concerts and could we go. I had to explain that Elvis passed away a long time ago and he sings in Heaven now. He was so heartbroken. Same thing happened when he heard Whitney for the first time.
No one absolutely can sing like this man. What an awesome talent. The last so many years you have ways of making someone's voice sound better than what it actually is. Elvis was raw talent. Elvis did not need all the bells, toys and the whistles of today's fake voices.
Love it!I was raised on this man's music and we must never let his music or his story die!!
Absolutely love this! Gorgeous man and he sings with so much emotion
I think Elvis and Roy Orbison are the only people who can pull off a steady flow of vibrato
And Johnny Mathis
Simon and Garfunkel sang this first.
Then Elvis sang it.
God given talent. Hard to beat that.
