"American Trilogy" is actually a sample of three different songs covering three different American perspectives: "Dixie Land" is a southern civil war hymn. "All my Trials" is a Caribbean slave hymn and "Battle Hymn of the Republic" is the Union civil war representation. It's supposed to be a unifying song. Elvis's contribution is of course, iconic, with his dramatic arrangements and huge voice.

Even Elvis was amazed by the reach of the technology of the time.
I watched this concert “live” as it was broadcast on televisions all over the world.
I was 12yo, and our entire family had gathered around the TV to watch this electrifying performance. It was truly spellbinding!

1973 the year I graduated high school, we watched the entire broadcast from Hawaii as a family. Wasn't that amazing! My sisters grew up in love with Elvis (what girl didn't) and the boys loved the Elvis movies because of the beautiful girls in them. Elvis said his biggest regret was getting pushed into the movie contract. He hated doing those movies, although I am sure he got a lot of money for them. In his later years with the drug abuse he went down quickly. I believe his last performance was in my home town of Rapid City South Dakota. He barely got through that performance and was just horrible. We all felt so badly for him. What a loss!

This was first worldwide broadcast ever. It reached 1.5 billion people in something like 20 countries. He had so many fan clubs & wanted to be able to perform for the other countries as well. Nothing has ever matched it in size. The Beatles did one later & got 1 billion views. Treat yourself to the entire Aloha performance. It's fantastic.

People don't remember how much children loved Elvis. I don't know why. But seeing him with Lisa-marie was such a joy. I was about 6 when I fell in love with Elvis, so parents bought me all his records and I watched all his films. He sung nice sweet songs, he smiled nice, his eyes twinkled with mischievous.
The day he died, I was seven. My mother woke me out of my sleep gently to tell me, the sun hadn't risen yet. All I remember I danced like a crazy thing, all day long, in tribute. Crying all the time, untill i finally collapsed. For many children, Elvis the singerman, with manners, laughter, and energy, meant a heck of a lot. And yes I was a black kid, Elvis touched the hearts of many. ❤ Loving you always.

It's amazing, and yet unsurprising, how Elvis is still affecting people all these decades after his passing. He never took his fame for granted and never lost his extreme gratitude to his fans, and it showed. He not only sang but also knew exactly the way he wanted each song to sound like as a whole, personally auditioned his musicians, arranged many of his songs and directed his band with his body movements. One of his drummers said "I think we're the only band that's directed by an ass". He said his black female background singers brought out the soul in him. And has anyone mentioned that he never had any formal musical training and didn't even know how to read music?

This was the 1st televised live concert seen all over the world by satellite in 1973. More people probably saw this than saw the Moon Landing years before. I sat in my living room as a 12 year old and watched the Aloha From Hawaii concert as it happened.
3 of the best and hardest to copy vibratos in music are Elvis, Freddy Mercury of Queen and Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees (who did it in falsetto). All 3 were amazing singers.

Lovely reaction Britt - and so good to see another young person beginning to discover and appreciate the talent that seasoned fans like myself have long since known.
Many things throughout Elvis' life and career have pointed to him being a staunch American patriot. From his national service in the Army, his letter to Richard Nixon in December 1970, or the inclusion of this song in his setlist from 1972 and using America (The Beautiful) in his live show to celebrate his country's bicentennial in 1976.
As a Brit and a Scot and not an American, it is not my place to judge how sincere or deep a patriot Elvis Presley was - that is purely for Americans to decide, but whatever the truth may be something compelled Elvis to include American Trilogy in his repertoire where anyone can hear how much emotion he puts into the song, and every fan has their favourite version.
This is probably the most powerful, emotional and heartfelt rendition that Elvis ever performed on stage, this time during his “Aloha” satellite show in Hawaii on 14 January 1973.

Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and moved to Memphis when he got older I believe. He attended black churches as a kid and loved the singing of the choir. So, his music came from black musicians and culture. Though some black artists resented him for that.

Great review!!! Yes....they were in tune with Elvis. Elvis was the conductor of the band...:) They all say that is the case. Even the conductor of the orchestra that's more in the background...said that Elvis had the timing of a metronome. But even more importantly he knew exactly what he wanted each instrumental to do...and could direct any of them at any time!

I'm sure you've checked the stats by now. Aloha was HUGE. The stadium only held 6,000 people, there weren’t big enough stadiums built for Elvis' megastardom and they needed to be careful because his appearance caused riots everywhere he went in public. He actually paid $6,000 to start the donations for his own ticket to the show (it was meant as a fundraiser to raise $25K for cancer, they raised $75K).
Elvis hated his "skinny" neck and always wore high collars so his designer always had that in mind when making chocies about his costumes. I love his neck, it's beautiful like the rest of him.
The audience is reflected, they used massive mirror to make Elvis feel like gis audience was closer to him. If you watch the making of Aloha it will give you insight into how it was done.
The US eagle suit he wore, he had 3 belts made for it. One he threw into the crowd in this concert, another he gave to someone else and the third has never been worn, it is housed somewhere secure among his possessions. I'm hoping it will be at the Elvis exhibition in London Bridge which I hope to catch before it closes 1st September 2024.
I can see you falling in love with him with every reaction you have done lol. Join the club, he was delicious in any era and his voice changed over time. Voice of an angel amd sexy AF 🔥
    Long live the King ❤

One thing about this concert: It was A benefit concert for the Kuai Lee Cancer Research Fund. Kuai Lee was a Hawaiian born songwriter and singer who died of cancer.
Elvis performed Kuai Lee's song "I'll Remember You" at this concert as well.
Elvis paid $1,000.00 dollars out of his pocket for his own ticket as well as paid out of pocket for his back up singers, band members, and orchestra to be there as well.
Elvis raised $75,000.00 (US) for the Kuai Lee Cancer Research Fund.
During his performance of "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" at this concert, Elvis threw his cape into the audience.
Elvis shook hands, gave out scarves, and was even known to kiss some of his female fans during performances.
During the performance of "Steamroller Blues" at this very same concert you see Elvis doing just that 😉
Great Elvis suggestions in the comments! Thank you to all!

Elvis' legendary Aloha From Hawaii concert took place in Honolulu, HI, January 1973. The concert was broadcast live on TV to over 40 countries. Profits from this concert was donated to the Kui Lee Cancer Fund in Hawaii. Guinness Book of World Records STILL recognizes this live concert to be the largest LIVE viewed concert, estimated at approx 1.3 to 1.5 billion people watching at the SAME TIME on TV around the world. You commented how large the crowd was at this concert. However, the venue in Honolulu, where this concert took place was smaller than it looked. The audience attending this concert was only approx 6,000 people. The producers used mirrors to make it appear the crowd was larger. Elvis sang 20-25 songs & this concert lasted approx 1 hour long, common length time for an Elvis concert. At the end of this record breaking concert, Elvis put on his infamous, cape with the American Eagle embroidery on its back BEFORE singing his traditional, closing song, Can't Help Falling In Love. Towards the end of the song, Elvis reached to the back of his neck & took off the glittery cape. He tossed it out to the wild audience. Knowing over a billion people were viewing this concert, Elvis knew he had to end it in extra special fasion, so he threw his cape out to the shouting/crying audience before exiting the stage. That cape has NEVER surfaced since that 1973 worldwide concert. No fan has stepped forward to claim possession of this cape. It's never been up for auction. Elvis' Aloha From Hawaii cape is likely now a very valuable memorabilia worth millions at auction. But, did the audience fight over it & shred the cape into pieces? I have never read whatever happened to that beautiful cape. Maybe some of your supporters know what happened to it? Elvis' Aloha From Hawaii Satellite Concert was one of the most iconic/historic concert in music history. Long live, The King 👑 !

Update to your story. The fan who caught it did give it back to the estate some years later and it is now in the showcase w/the rest of the outfit. Not sure if he was paid anything to it or not. But it can be seen if you visit Graceland & go to the hall of costumes. It's unbelievable.
