The voice is so unique and powerful that it's a marvel on its own but putting it with his looks and charisma was God showing off when he made this man. Elvis was the birth of fangirls.

The drummer was hired for being able to not only be a world class drummer, but to improvise just by watching Elvis. Ronny Tutt. He was the last to audition before his come back. The guy that auditioned before him used his drums and initially got the gig. He talked them into letting him go ahead and play since his drums were already set up. He was so good and his chemistry with Elvis took off from there. Anytime you see Elvis moving with the drums like that, in any song, it's the two of them working together to make the magic happen.

I was working in an office of an automobile company that made the components of doors. As I was walking in an aisle, I looked to my left and saw an Elvis picture. Maybe a calendar or 16"18" poster. It was a closeup, from chest up, dressed in black. I moved to the picture, the man at the desk made room for me so I could get closer for viewing. About 20 seconds later I said "Raw Sex". Tony Joe White, who wrote this song, is another Southern rock and roll singer with a similar voice to Elvis. but the epitome of a rocker is Elvis. When I was young Elvis was buried in his (mostly) dire movies and crooning. This 70s comeback was more to my taste, and showcased his power. In 89-90 I spent some time in the South, Virginia and North Carolina, and got a real feel for what this stuff means.

Chain gangs were inmates chained to each other doing work outside supervised by guards in the deep South. I don't think women were on any chain gangs.
The performance of this song didn't evidence his vocal power. But he did a lot of other songs live which demonstrated his vocal prowess.

It’s fun watching younger generations discover Elvis and reacting the same way we did when he was alive. He was a cultural phenomenon and an American icon. Elvis truly is a rabbit hole worth going down and the further you go, the more you will respect/love him and realize he was a lot deeper than most entertainers. You are right about the song being about Civil Rights. Heartbroken about the news of Martin Luther King’s assassination Elvis sat down with songwriter Walter Earl Brown to come up with “If I Can Dream”. The 68 Comeback Special was supposed to be a Christmas Special and end with a Christmas song for America to hear. However Elvis put it all on the line, holding nothing back and standing up for his convictions chose to perform this song as his finale despite those around him advising him not to. Please watch “In the Ghetto” 1970 Las Vegas and note the crowd he is performing in front of. Also watch “Love Me Tender” 1970 concert. What he does will absolutely shock you and possibly make you jealous you weren’t there. Great reaction!

Just to add to that nice comment you made, Elvis is voice, and feeling for music came from even deep in his bones, his left leg was almost always moving. He felt the music because music was him. He never had a singing coach and like you said he just moved to the music that he felt inside him. He was Elvis. That’s who he was. !!!

That was Las Vegas if no one has told you … I grew up an Elvis fan (my now 80 yr old mom was a super groupie !!) This is my favorite “fast” song he did … and I’m so glad you mentioned the background vocals … I swear I think I became as much a fan of the
Sweet Inspirations as I did him !!! So glad to see young people still falling in love with all of Elvis ❤

This really showcases what a showman & entertainer Elvis was. And he had a good sense of humor. He really liked wearing these white jumpsuits & it became his staple outfit in a lot of his concerts. "Polk Salad Annie” is a 1968 song written & performed originally by Tony Joe White.

Tony Joe White was a class act. I love his version of this song. Brook Benton's version of Tony's "Rainy Night in Georgia" is iconic.

The visual performance is amazing, awesome. The way he moved was very special. But his vocals are great too here, the tone, the quality and the dimension of it all is awesome. Elvis was one of a kind for sure, named the King of Rock and Roll for good reason. What an icon! And he had a beautiful spirit too, very soulful, which contributed to his overall charm.

I don't think there is anyone that can compare to him. To me, you have to listen and watch to really understand the depth, sincerity, voice and everything about him.

When God created my friend Elvis he was just showing off. I can't tell you how much i love and miss him, there is not a day that goes by that i don't think of him and all the memories we made in 10 short years, his death knocked the wind out of me i have never been the same since, Elvis was the big brother i never had. He is also my guardian angel. Graceland is my go to place when it get's to hard to live w/o my friend i go there and walk around and remember Elvis and all the beautiful times we had together. He was the only person in my life that understood me and cared about my feelings and opinions. What it comes down to is we both needed a true friend and we were that for each other. Awesome reaction. God bless you and your family from the one and only Memphis Tn. Fun fact he loved to make funny noises with the microphone there was NOTHING!!!!! sexual about what he did with the Microphone. My nickname for him was Sexy Jello we laughed about that all the time he thought it was hilarious.

You are right, his voice is and was iconic, but then again everything he did was passionate, he had a deep love of the south and loved the negro music, he was blessed with a drive to have all peoples equal. his costumes when you see them all at Graceland are remarkable but each one i am told had a message. He was a great showman, a good American and loved his country, A visit to Graceland opens up your eyes, i think this guy was the ultimate enteratiner.

Elvis is confident in everything he is and does but he has something a little extra too. There are confident men everywhere but Elvis has command of something that isn't available to every man and to see that it even translates through video is mind blowing.

Crazy and tragic because privately, he was insecure and shy. And felt suppressed, by his management, and especially in his acting, as he was pigeonholed into music movies but wanted to be a serious actor like James Dean. Makes you appreciate the icon he was, that he struggled with so much but achieved far more.

This concert was included in the 1970 documentary called Elvis, That’s the way it is.
This is my favorite. So many of those songs are awesome.
His female group were the Inspirations. One of the women was Whitney Houston’s Mother.
Elvis got a lot of his Dance moves from Karate.
