If it wasn't for Brenda Starr, Mariah's career might have taken a different turn and she wouldn't have brought out all those songs including this one to us fans to enjoy.
Then Brenda Starr should have been executed for such an act of evil-plaguing us with that shrieking non-talent witch with the bullshit songs and the ugly caterwauling all-over-the-place gobbing. I absolutely love this classic cut from Brenda but Mariah's no question is the better of the two and probably my second favorite Mariah Carey song behind Always Be My Baby so I disagree about Brenda's being better, mainly cuz Brenda while her voice is solid throughout, she sounds like she's singing Karaoke thru half the song...she gets better towards the climax and there's something about that Karaoke way of her singing that I still love so again Brenda's is no doubt a classic but Mariah's is my favorite and of course I respect your opinion as well

In the summer of 1988 or 1989 I was at an Insurance convention in Orlando with my brother. We were both dressed in a very nice suit and tie. The Hotel adjacent to our had many limousines arriving. We walked over to see what the fuss was about. Evidently 2 VIP guests canceled. We were given front row seats to the show. Brenda K Starr came out and put on a hell of show. She came down and sang this song while sitting on my lap/knee for a minute or two. It was a night I'll never forget.

when I seen her on American Idol supporting her daughter, I was like omg blast from the past. I use to play the hell out this song back in the day. In the summer of 1988 or 1989 I was at an Insurance convention in Orlando with my brother. We were both dressed in a very nice suit and tie. The Hotel adjacent to our had many limousines arriving. We walked over to see what the fuss was about. Evidently 2 VIP guests canceled. We were given front row seats to the show. Brenda K Starr came out and put on a hell of show. She came down and sang this song while sitting on my lap/knee for a minute or two. It was a night I'll never forget.
