Say what you will, but he doped when everyone did. He has lived a full life, (sports, drugs, lots of beautiful women, kids from different mothers) and is doing great at age 50. A couple of weeks ago, he became father again when his youngest daughter was born. He rides all the Spring Classics (tour version), and together with his beautiful Ukrainian girlfriend he works hard to help Ukrainian War refugees in the Netherlands. What's not to like? On a side note: Boogerd has stated that even today riders dope. They are just more ahead of the UCI then they were in his era.
One of your best guys! Boogerd and the legendary Rabobank squad provided some of the greatest racing moments of that era. Erik Dekker was my favourite. Chicken was the beginning of the end in my mind though, as far as wondering about the preparation and assistance he had to produce those rides. But, it was always Boogerd who came to mind when I thought of Rabobank. He was the face and teeth of the orange and blue squad!
@@kenkaniff8428 nope, they don't..We all knew the riders were doing "things"..One big change that has taken the life out of the peleton had been the radio technology and the constant communication..These new riders do nothing on there own without instructions from their DS or team leader..What made the racing great back in the day was riders making decisions on the fly..Hence the term "a living, breathing peleton"..Those days are gone
Clearly, the air is cleaner, and the food better in 2022. Not to mention much better brakes, tires and the weight of the bikes now, makes climbing alot faster.

Closest thing to anything solid was his Vuelta win at age 41 and his hemoglobin count. Once it dropped to 13.4 it should NOT have gone back above 14 but it did go up to 14.6 or 14.9 I think. It matches all the patterns of doping and cheating test protocols but there's no solid PROOF or EVIDENCE like in almost all cases. It's DEFINITELY suspect tho.

UCI, WADA and Jesper Worre (and by extension DCU for not sacking that traitor immediately) deserve some of the blame too. UCI and WADA for applying the rules about whereabouts in a way that they haven't been applied before (or since), and Worre for his bullshit about four warnings and not shutting up about confidential information.

I like to think Freire was never a part of Rabo's doping program, he was never implicated in any of the scandals, and never failed any drug testing. He actually sued some of his former teammates for suggesting he did.

Fun fact: When Riis won on Hautacam in 96 he climbed the mountain more than 2 minutes faster than Vingegaard. Even though the whole stage back then was more than 50 km longer, he rode alone for a longer period and more aggressively attacking plenty of times before that and also of course riding with old technology heavier bikes. You can see the same interesting statistics for Alpe d'huez that they somehow climbed faster back then in the 90s and 00s.. so I guess that if they are still doping it is not as potent as it was before? Or maybe cycling has changed? Anyway regarding Vingegaard, just to mention, danish doctors back in 2018 already concluded that he has a very unique heartfunction pumping much stronger even compared to other professional athletes.

Like the connection from Rasmussen to Riis and the dynepo. And then these curious ‘hobbies’ like ice skating and boxing, the footage of this - it seems to fit neatly with the interest in eastern European prostitutes and various substance abuse.

I think this also depends on your definition of doping. Does the usage of an asthma inhaler also count, food supplies like ketone? Because then it's basically impossible to find a clean rider. What's also interesting to look at are the sporting directors of each team. There are still a couple of them left from the heydays of doping and former rider who'd taken those peds.
I think the WT French teams are less doped. Compared to EPO yellow bees and sport washing teams. 1 which had a very bad tour after a raid before it started.

I tend to collect kits drom well know dopped team, even have one where Contardor started as young guy...but when you think of it most team get caught sooner or later for doping so it hard to find kits from teams that didnt to any trangrerssion XD. What I hate about all of this most is that its not only a cyclist problem , any athlete , will always search for better, faster , whether its in formula 1 or any sport. They always have been searching to do better , with getting and searching for better gear, clothing, and yes a better body . Riis was called the Eagle from Herning, Rasmussen was the Chicken from Tølløse. Propably named that due to his skinny legs and small body composition. But everyone else doped, i feel the chicken won the 2007 tour. Why give it away to another doper ?!
In simple terms, it was because he was skinny. According to Michael Rasmussens autobiography however, the nickname came to be partly because of a famous danish children show called “bamse & kylling” (basically “bear and chicken”, or “teddy bear and chicken”), and partly because of a danish singer called Flemming Bamse Jørgensen. He rode with the national team as far as i recall, and had a teammate called Flemming. They called him bamse. At some point one of the other riders said “then we just need a chicken”, and Michael Rasmussen came in right after he had said that without his shirt on, looking like a skinny, plucked chicken. That’s according to The Chickens autobiography at least, though it sounds a little weird perhaps.
Name & shame all those who have been found guilty of doping. Each & every one of them cheats of the most beautiful sport there is. They have tainted the sport & make people with little knowledge about it, think all riders dope. WHICH IS NOT TRUE AT ALL. As a former rider & team mechanic, they disgust me.

Riis was called the Eagle from Herning, Rasmussen was the Chicken from Tølløse. Propably named that due to his skinny legs and small body composition. But everyone else doped, i feel the chicken won the 2007 tour. Why give it away to another doper ?!

In simple terms, it was because he was skinny. According to Michael Rasmussens autobiography however, the nickname came to be partly because of a famous danish children show called “bamse & kylling” (basically “bear and chicken”, or “teddy bear and chicken”), and partly because of a danish singer called Flemming Bamse Jørgensen.
He rode with the national team as far as i recall, and had a teammate called Flemming. They called him bamse. At some point one of the other riders said “then we just need a chicken”, and Michael Rasmussen came in right after he had said that without his shirt on, looking like a skinny, plucked chicken.
That’s according to The Chickens autobiography at least, though it sounds a little weird perhaps.
