I had the privilege of listening to her play this 2 weeks ago in Cologne. After the performance, she went on to listen to the Schostakovich symphony 5 which was played after. Best version of Hilary Hahn playing Brahms! Her playing matured so nicely: longer phrasing, fearless strokes, unstoppable intensity, powerful projection. Packed with emotion. Technicality at the best serve of the dynamics. Without mentioning the impeccable intonation... I am so glad this video is available, not being able to make to the concert.
Very true. I've admittedly never been a huge fan of Hilary's playing, although her technical prowess cannot be denied. That said, she's ascended to another level recently and I do love her playing now.

Totally agree. When I would love to see her 'attack' Shosta's Violin Concerto no. 1 now (the version when she was 21 lacks some of the aggression I think she would add to it now)
I see many comments under this video that “something which was already perfect became even better”. Indeed Hilary has always been one of the most preeminent violinists of our times, but she has always continued to grow. And that’s actually unique: when a child prodigy becomes a really Great Musician after >30 years of continuous fame. Honestly I don’t know any other examples of such a resistance towards fame temptation in the present times: several Hilary’s colleagues, also very gifted musicians by nature, swirled in the whirlpool of popularity and did not reach the level of true greatness. But Hilary… having gotten 3 Grammy awards (!!!) and lots of other prizes and “recognition symbols”, having made recordings of almost complete violin repertoire with the best orchestras and best studios in the whole world, always hearing rave reviews of her genius and crowds of fans as if she was a pop/rock star and/or a Hollywood star, having given birth to two daughters in a marriage with her husband and looking now stunningly beautiful, like 25-27 years old (max)… and she’s playing now at completely different level in comparison even with herself 15-20 years ago. I even read in those days that she was called a genius, “the Menuhin and Stern of our day”, etc., but then I could not fully agree with this, to be honest. She was obviously great, but it would be difficult for me then to call her a genius. And now, after this rendition of Brahms, a truly grandiose discovery has happened to me: Hilary Hahn IS indeed one of the greatest musicians of all times. She’s not a child prodigy any more… she’s not the one with purest and most beautiful violin tone any more… she’s not a phenomenal and preeminent master of violin any more… she’s a truly Great violinist and Great Musician, because in her playing one can feel the breath of eternity and immortality. Now it became obvious to me that she is one of those people on whom our fragile world actually rests. THANK YOU! ❤

The solo at the end of the first movement was perfect and very moving. Here plays a violinist who has reached full maturity and perfectly interprets the spirit of this concerto in addition to a perfect technique. The sympathetic conductor physically transfers the deep feelings of this concerto to the orchestra. Thank you very much for this video. An incredibly pleasant experience.
To see just how wonderful the 1st movement cadenza was, you need only watch the reactions of the orchestra's string players. They seem wrapped around the soloist in a spell-bound world of concentration and empathy.
Her emotional range is becoming wider. Her sound is smoother than ever. Hilary keeps amazing me with all the possibilities she made possible (of course, all with the phenomenal Mikko and orchestra). Bravo Hilary, Mikko, Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France!
Jesus Christ -- only Hilary Hahn can bring justice to this concerto. It is beautiful -- it is a masterpiece. But everything has to be in place, played, controlled structure and chaos -- only Hilary can summon the Spirit of Brahms from the graves and bring him to life. It is truly humbling to witness the very heights of humanity. Makes me tear up just realizing how good this was...
As Hilary matures she revisits this concerto and immerses herself, and the listener in another why of interpreting this masterpiece. I remember first hearing her deliver a magnificent performance and left thinking she was Oistrakh reincarnated. Each time she comes forward with this work Hilary has been moving more into her own space. With this performance she owns the work as entirely hers. It will be fascinating to listen to how she builds on this over the coming decades.
Agree with you about being very Oistrakh in her earlier interpretation...now she has found her own softness and suppleness within that interpretation....every note has a meaning and a drama...and she's only 43...holy cow, what's next??
There is a definite chemistry between Hilary and Mikko and I believe they bring out the best in each other. Mikko's glowing face and Hilary crushing it... they go together. So much fun! Thank you!

Hillary Hahn my all time idol she plays Brahms like he probably heard it in his head just the cadenza we went from Beethoven to Bach what a phenomenal performer
I am sure that Heifetz and Menuhin and all the other legendary violinists from long ago would have liked her playing. She is standing beside them in this interpretation of Brahms violin conserto. Eventually they all had taken a step backwards hearing this interpretation.
As always when Hilary is playing, it is almost like watching a small ballet combined with her wonderful playing. Her perhaps unconscious small moves on stages contributes to my experience of this music as a whole. Music is in some way a movement from one place to another, and in this she has my full admiration.
Excellent and sublime. I just bought two of her recordings on CD recently. I could not imagine living in a world without classical music, orchestras, musical instruments, and great performers. And of course composers of music too!

Seid innig gegrüßt, Ihr alle, Ihr guten Musiker.

The violin intro in the first movement had me in tears. That's when I knew... Then came the Cadenza. About 4 seconds into it, 2 beautiful Sparrows came flying into my room! It would seem they too enjoyed the exhilarating and gorgeously moving performance by Hilary Hahn's rendition of the Brahms Violin Concerto! And to the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France directed by Mikko Franck, well done indeed!
@@staffanolofsson8201 Haha! I wouldn't be surprised if they do like Brahms. In truth, I used the sparrows as a metaphor to describe how I feel about Hilary Hahn's magnificent performance. I'm quite sure it was the high pitched sounds of the violin which drew their attention.

For me this is a masterly playing, her best, it has taken my heart, I love her ability to make Brahms´music this space of love, hope and trust. But everything has to be in place, played, controlled structure and chaos -- only Hilary can summon the Spirit of Brahms from the graves and bring him to life. It is truly humbling to witness the very heights of humanity. Makes me tear up just realizing how good this was...
Hilary is such a goddess, queen of the violin!!. Hilary is such a goddess, queen of the violin!!.
Ms Hilary gets better each year. She is a legendary violinist with technical virtuosity and great musicality.
I. Allegro non troppo 00:00
II. Adagio 24:40
III. Allegro giocoso, ma non troppo vivace 34:01
Thank you.
Merci beaucoup !!!!
It will be fascinating to listen to how she builds on this over the coming decades.
i see
James, thank you. Yes, we look forward to experience the coming Hilary Hahn.
Thank you!
Hillary Hahn
my all time idol
she plays Brahms like he probably heard it in his head
just the cadenza we went from Beethoven to Bach what a phenomenal performer
Two Setters here just because of our love to Hilary. Beautiful performance
People need to realize that this young lady is right alongside the greatest artists of all times
She is 43 and all the other want to be as she is. One of the most highrated violinists in this world.
I am sure that Heifetz and Menuhin and all the other legendary violinists from long ago would have liked her playing. She is standing beside them in this interpretation of Brahms violin conserto. Eventually they all had taken a step backwards hearing this interpretation.
Wow! She has absolute and total control over that instrument. Very rare to see.
And a joy to experience!
As always when Hilary is playing, it is almost like watching a small ballet combined with her wonderful playing. Her perhaps unconscious small moves on stages contributes to my experience of this music as a whole. Music is in some way a movement from one place to another, and in this she has my full admiration.
?
Excellent and sublime. I just bought two of her recordings on CD recently. I could not imagine living in a world without classical music, orchestras, musical instruments, and great performers. And of course composers of music too!
Hilary Hahn Sibelius with this orchestra and Mikko Franck is my favorite recording ever and this just just as sublime. Thank you to everyone involved for creating such great music and making it available to all. Bravo!
@@LucienMarine Hilary Hahn has a unique sound that no other violinist can replicate her attack and crisp tone is what I love. I also love her artistic choices. For me, Janine comes nowhere close to Hilary's recent recordings. It's really all just preference at a point. I could find an article that says the same about Hilary she's just as famous if not more due to social media and works with the same conductors
Next year Sibelius at Mauson de la radio with them !!
@@hortenseveronique9961 sadly I live in America 😅. But I saw her play Sibelius in January. Best experience ever!
I don't like this conductor at all: Mikko Frank! This is the Achilles heel in the execution of this piece. His orchestration is clumsy and somber. Luckily, Hilary Hahn is here! Our best French conductor is Fabien Gabel. With Gabel, it's energy and flamboyance. Richard Strauss: Une Symphonie alpestre, Op. 64 : th-cam.com/video/XbiPrMLIriQ/w-d-xo.html by Fabien Gabel. Fabulous! *Lucien*
@@TacticalStrike I wish the Charleston Symphony would ask her to play here in Charleston, SC. I have not heard her play live since she was a child of 14, in Baltimore, MD. In a fourth of July concert at a park in Baltimore County for free with the Baltimore Symphony conducted by David Zinman. I am now 82.
Thank You For Posting With My Favorite Violinist !

Wonderful performance, Hilary you are stunning, and the whole orchestra is wonderful, thanks so much for sharing your talent with all of us.
There is so much to love here. Feels like the orchestra is having fun! Love the smile of Mikko as he directs. Hilary is masterful as I have ever seen her, and beautiful in that great dress! The sound is marvelous!! I was in tears. Bravo 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 all!
Always a pleasure to hear Mikko and Hilary together.
Beautiful. Hilary just exudes confidence and energy, and the exchange between all of the performers and the conductor is electrifying.
Yes you are right, exchange in the small, without making it the main issue. Just a confidence among all participants.
Hilary’s pinky is always unbelievable🎉🎉🎉
Hilary's pinky is something from another world!
0:00 1st movement

Thanks for the cadenza!
4:00 One happy musician lol
Wow. I love love love Hahn's playing.
ME TOO!!!
Simply one of the greatest works ever composed, exquisitely performed.
Hilary Hahn playing Brahms - it just doesn't get any better. Thanks for sharing this beautiful performance.
I'm a simple man, I see Hilary Hahn and Maestro Franck, I click.
Thku so much. I can’t express what it has meant to me ❤
Takes your breath away doesn't it. Actually forces the emotion out of you whether you like it or not. Staggering.
Que maravilla !!! Que linda es la música. Que interprete! Wow. Gracias Hillary! Te amo❤
I have not mentioned this orchestra but we all know that they always are playing at their top. The support they give Hilary Hahn in this is essential for our experience of this work. One of this worlds best orchestras. So thank you for during so many years bringing the best music to us, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France!
An International Gold Standard performance of a dense & complex violin concerto.
Okay ❤okay Hilary you are the female Jacha Heifetz! Thankyou. God gifted fiddler!! I’ve listened to all of these concertos over and over with attempting to play this whole concerto you have now given me the largest gift to listen so I can get this right. One day sooner rather then later I pray!! I want to make my violin 🎻 sound just like this flourless and god gifted.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤more please . 🎉
Great Hilary She play feeling AWESOME Brahms ❤❤❤
Seid innig gegrüßt, Ihr alle, Ihr guten Musiker.
Stimme Ich eigentlich zu! The orchestra really plays a bit shallow. But Hilary is doing an amazing job in my opinion. Among all her interpretations of this concert this one is the best for me. Und danke für Ihren Kommentar!
Perhaps even sparrows like Brahms? We have no idea what they really like.
Hilary looking like this magical musical gypsy faerie and I'm totally here for it.
The orchestra, the conductor, Hahn -making magic.
Hilary Hahn just knocks it out of the park EVERYTIME. Such drive to the strings and fluidity in her arpeggio's. Nuance is what she IS.
I hear new additions to the concerto oh they are amazing Hilary!!!!!!
Simply stunning performance by all. Hilary's violin playing is the magnificent heartbeat of this Braum's symphony. Bravo...
Comment coming from someone who knows little to nothing about being a classical musician but has dabbled in music and choir. I get hyper focused on random things on TH-cam (latest being violin videos) and so far i feel this she is by far the best at this 1st movement I’ve come across after watching many people do it
Hilary Hahn with Mikko Franck is iconic.
This music so Beauty Tears coming but only Joy
Hilary Hahn is famous, but i was also surprised Radio France. Mikko Franck gives them it's own sound.
Iconic performance!! Such rapport between Hahn, Franck, and the orchestra. Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Like chamber music.
For all of you who are specially fond of Hilarys "Little Finger Vibrato" this is magic. And I know there are lots of you out there just waiting for Hilary to use her little finger. Now is your time.
The cape is fitting for a super hero...
Wow! I haven't heard her in a while and didn't pay attention to what I was clicking on. My first thought was- "Who is that? It sounds like Hillary Hahn only better!" Blown away by how she keeps maturing over the years!
I vote her not only queen but ruler of the rational universe. Anyone else think this is an excellent guide going forward?
Spicatto from orchestra is just a treat to hear ❤they are each note is perfectly plucked in time. Sounds absolutely beautiful 🤩
My Dad played this when I was a child on one of the first home stereo. I found the Lp record years later and could follow it aĺ the way through.im 74 now and its still one of my favourites ❤
Super passionate performance. I also admire sound engineer. Hilary is always in front and with ample nuance of orchestra.
Oh Hilary?❤??!!!!!! The double notes oh my oh my are no words to thank you 🙏 ❤
To me there's nobody like Hilary--and she just seems to keep on getting better--heavenly playing.
I now have listened to this more than ten times, still sort of "shivering in my soul" about the wonderful small details in Hilarys playing, all together with her masterly control of the main structure of this work. As I see it, her best performance so far. Notice, so far. Together with this orchestra she has the ability to make some more wonders, and I hope that I still will be there to admire her playing. For me this is a masterly playing, her best, it has taken my heart, I love her ability to make Brahms´music this space of love, hope and trust. Just listen to Hilarys way of playing the second movement. It is perfect. And so I can only say that I love Hilarys playing in this, even more than before.
Where there is dexterity, the maturity is put in quotes. The particularity of Hilary Hahn is her crystalline game which becomes unstoppable. It's his trademark and therefore the weight of the years will not change anything. This register of Brahms is not his best performance but the one from 2014 with Paavo Järvi on Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra Channel hr-Sinfonieorchester. Listen carefully to the interpretation of the Adagio which is immeasurably limpidity. We do not deceive the listeners with nearly 8 million. The reference is here !
@@LucienMarine As a swede I have to use my english-swedish dictionary to understand some of your words. Yes I have earlier listened to this Paavo Järvi interpretation. And yes, it is good, I am very fond of Paavo Järvi in Sibelius interpretations. But I still think this new Brahms interpretation by Hilary is better than the one you prefer. Better sound is also one of my arguments. From a music lover to another. And best wishes!
@@staffanolofsson8201 Keep your sarcasm ! I don't consider you at all like a music lover but as an amateur who gets drunk his world with your many comments. With you, it's always the same insipid words. You will never know write or describe a work as I did here or elsewhere. It's the very essence of the music lover. Terminus : get off the train !
@@LucienMarine I agree. I like that older performance better. In this one the violin sounds much harsher.
@Lucien ? That was harsh on our fellow commenter. I didn't see him do anything worthy of that.
Hilary is back!
A huge BRAVO!
Hillary Hahn is a gift to this era of classical concertos. Though never attended her live performances, she seems to be a genuinely good person too. : Thank you. MA
Oh, Hilary, you beautiful creature, you've done it again! What a gorgeous rendition!
And that dress is stunning.
I could listen to her all day. Too bad I gotta work.
I was in the hall for this performance and was thoroughly impressed. This ranks with the Ginette Neveu one. And then last week I was in Denver when the Colorado Symphony gave it with Augustin Hadelich and I discovered an entirely different concerto, at an equivalent level of artistry as Hahn's own interpretation. Lucky me.
you know , Hilary Hahn is really causing me to get more into classical - it's all her doing and thank you so much ! orchestra is great too -
Super! Guzel! Kalbim titriyor dinledikce! Gozler yasariyor!
How does Hilary Hahn manage to perfect herself each time? like...how? The only regret is that I wasn't there in person!
Absolutely phenomenal. Hilary Hahn is one of the greatest violinists. Excellent orchestra. Bravo, Maestro Franck.
She looks like a goddess in this dress 🥰❤️🔥 yes mother!!!
Hilary the world 🌍
adores you !!!!
Gosh Hilary, you're
so good and fun
to watch. ❤
Wow! Such a stirring and inspiring performance! Hilary Hahn's incredible poise, piercing focus, clarity of sound, warmth of interpretation.... Brought tears to my eyes! It's been a long time since I've stayed up too late because I got sooo drawn into watching violin videos. I wanted to just watch a few minutes of this, and had to watch all the way to the end. Riveting! This is what music is all about. So excited to keep practicing my violin! :) Thank you to every single person who made this possible!
Oh, is that awesome!!!! ❤I am near to tears....
Amazing!👍👍👍 This is one of my favourite interpretations of this concerto!
Bravo, Bravo ❤
Thank you for sharing 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you ! Hilary Hahn. You perfom always so humble with the best quality music and best ensembles.
As a healthy medicine for the heart. (annagram of earth ) connected with heaven. Composers are glad.
