In this video we'll review concussion mechanisms, the punch that dropped Ben Askren, plus talk about Jake Paul's CTE comments and why he needs to get serious if he's going to continue as a professional fighter.

I hope Jake takes the CTE/brain trauma stuff seriously now that he is establishing himself as a legit fighter. It's easy to blow off what he said as "clout chasing" but it's certainly possible his symptoms are REAL and that MUST be taken seriously if he is heading down the road of a hopeful long and competitive boxing career

@@gmartines8511 Yes...he's fought a TH-camr, a retired NBA player boxing for the first time and now this 36 year old grappler who was boxing for the first time. He will/would lose to a legit fighter. All his opponents are carefully chosen as "easy potential knockouts". If he wants to get any respect from the boxing community he'll start fighting lower ranked opponents and try to work his way up to a legitimate fight. For now is all showboat/charity type of fighting. This is of course will be predicated on him not being arrested for sexual assault.

I'm really glad your touching on the brain scan he under went and going into the deeper science behind those scan results because there are genuine people out there that take those scans at face value and think people actually have holes in their brains and then opposingly other people don't take it seriously and im glad you met it in the middle and showed the aspects that we should be caring about being it is something to care about if someone is showing signs of reduced blood flow in parts of the brain and also signs of mood swings and forgetfulness. My grandmother suffered from a very aggressive and rare form of dementia for the last 3 years of her life after living a full life of being sharp as a tack so i take this stuff very seriously. Even tho i have never followed jake or been a fan of his content, I hope him the best and wish him the best with his health and his boxing because he shows positive skills and traits at the sport and im glad he has something in his life he seems to care about and enjoy where before it did not seem like he enjoyed his life, so i wish him the best with all of this, just coming from a random person.

i'll be honest though, that was a quick stoppage for a boxing match. more of an exhibition match, so maybe that's why. but i'm used to seeing boxers get standing 8's when they are clearly out of it and fights usually go on way too long after

When a ref holds onto a boxers gloves after a knockdown, the boxer should provide resistance as a way of showing they are OK to continue (along with eye contact and verbal communication).
Refs in MMA don't do this. Ben didn't appear to do this, so the ref stopped the bout.

There's no doubt in my mind that had the fight continued. Ben Askren would've suffered the same exact fate as Nate Robinson, and I gotta be honest. I really wished that happened. I hear a lot of people say it was an early stoppage, and I kinda agree. I wanted to see Askren go to sleep just so there wouldn't be any controversy.

I'm 22 and have a lot of the symptoms of CTE, but I know from Brians videos you can't diagnose CTE. That time is much better spent trying to figure out what those symptoms might be linked to, rather than just assuming/"looking" for CTE. I hope to get a mental evaluation soon to find out if I really have any brain damage or not, I have the symptoms like memory issues, occasional mood swings and, although not as common, temperament issues, when I'm feeling down.

Not that hard in boxing you can't grab if you so the ref break you up and if you continue you will lose a point. So when you are hurt and don't have your legs you are kind of fucked happend to Joshua when he lost to Ruiz. He got hit and hurt early and never recovered. In mma you can grapple which can give you the time you need to get your heard back. And that's exactly what ben did when he fought robbie he got hurt then started wrestling then more importantly made it to the 2nd round more time to recover.
