  • Conor McGregor tore his ACL during the second round of a fight against Max Holloway at UFC Fight Night 26 in 2013. McGregor was still able to win the fight in what is one of the toughest UFC moments in history! It's not just about pain tolerance, but the instability that McGregor would have had in his knee makes this a pretty wild story that he was able to survive and win the fight. Now that he's set to make his UFC return against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, let's take a look back to learn about this bit of UFC history!

      @@kyf_ some mixture of exhaustion and dynamic movement. I am a varsity level badminton player, and in the process of playing a shot while airborne I landed awkwardly which led my ACL to rupture. The landing was a mix of lateral force and valgus stress on my knee. Felt like a pop/ crunch, not a great time.

      I once broke my kneecap doing a similar movement to Connor here (it dislocated and the shifting knocked it around and caused a chip) during a soccer game when I was 13. Nothing else was damaged much, but my kneecap pops out of place every once in a while even several years later and hurts like heck when it does. I can't imagine fighting someone with a torn ACL!

      Yeah, I tore my ACL, meniscus and fractured my knee as well. Right after it happened I could walk, but it was really weird. My leg felt unstable like I couldn't put my full weight on it. About 45min later the pain, swelling, and stiffness began. Not a fun time

      I tore my acl (right knee) and I didn’t even know the whole 2020 quarantine and then I finally got surgery a lot of months later stupidly my junior year then I had 6 months it was February 2021 and my football szn for my senior year started in august (6) which I risky played w out protocol for 9 games early then I tore my left acl in my second game of my senior szn then I still played 9/10 games on the torn left knee, it’s possible really risky but you obliterate your balance and meniscus over time what my surgeon told since acl not present meniscus takes grinding from Change of direction movements. I’m not the smartest for all that but it was my senior year so I had to in my eyes. And I might’ve wanted to get recruited :).

    I injured my ACL while wrestling and I'm out for months. It's so depressing not being able to train and having my legs becoming skinny

  • @caleb.gray92
    @caleb.gray92 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It would've been the second instance where it happened. The two are drastically different in that in the first one, Connor is purposefully moving his body in that way to try to finish the pass (a knee slice, which is probably the most common pass in BJJ and so is this movement). Yes, his upper torso is rotating towards Holloway but his hips are rotating away, which relieves almost all of the pressure on his knee. It's also important to note Holloway's body position and what he's doing. In the first instance, he's curled up and just trying to hold onto Connor's foot. In the second instance, Connor seems to be trying to just put massive amounts of pressure into the upper body of Holloway while trying to pull his foot out, but in doing so he extends his leg (aligning his knee with Holloway's hips) and doesn't rotate his hips away from Holloway. This means that Holloway can apply massive pressure with his hips (you can see this by how straight his body is in the second instance) as a sort of kneebar (think armbar) to the side of the knee, basically killing the pass, and try to come up on top. As he does this, Connor is still trying to turn into Holloway to apply pressure. The rest is painfully obvious (pun intended).

      Conor turned it into a grappling match before he tore his acl. He knew he was gassing already trying to finish Max. Before and after that fight, Conor was knocking guys dead with the same shots that were landing. Max iron chin and elite cardio wasn’t gonna allow Conor to finish him. So Conor took down a white belt Max Holloway, knowing he could control him better there.

    It can't be the first instance. The bottom person (Holloway). Has no strong bite on connor's leg with his. It's hard to tell from watching and have never been in that situation yourself. This means while his leg is trapped in there, it's free to move sideways. There no pressure on the knee in valgus. Plus, the foot is in the air. If the knee moves inward the foot turns to accommodate any pressure on the knee.
    The Injury has to be during the second instance where his foot was on the floor and the leg was straight
