Dude you’re one of very few (Reliable) people on YT who thoroughly cover this very specific topic. With respect, I was shocked to see how small your channel is. Your video quality is so high, I assumed you worked for the TH-cam! 😱 Keep up the good work. I’m always looking for new Pigeon content. ✌️
When I first got my pigeon, I was just on my computer and he suddenly mounted my hand and literally before I could even react he.. “finished” on my hand. At least I know he’s a male, but that’s not how I wanted to find out 😂
So accurate, Eden! Lily is the most masculine female pidge I have ever met 😂😂😂 She can be so vocal and aggressive when she feels like it hahah! Tallulah is like the opposite of Lily 🥰❤ What an angel (don't tell Lily i said that 🤣)
Thank you so much for making these vids! I’m going to put this comment on all of your vids to help boost your videos, but you’ve helped me SO much!!! It’s hard to find sound info on pigeons, and your channel has literally saved my butt when it comes to research. Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!
Well , my love and respect for pigeons is relatively new , I do love all animals , after my passed away I started feeding the pigeons ad hoc bases then became more routine,. Once at 7 then at 16;00 . I have been doing this for the past 6 months , I have flock of 50-60 birds who appear in my garden , some stay , for food. I got 4 pigeons which came in to my rooom for help. One who’s leg was hurt , 3 weeeks later cured and left. One had string in her leg , took them away and flew away . The third one , she can hardly fly , she flies backward and needs help eating , she came right into my room through window . She is still with me , had a problem with her leg, almost cured, but she still flies like a helicopter , backward and doesn’t like other birds . Very relax with me , ( I watched your video on birds ) 2 weeks later , what appears to be a relative of helicopter flew indie the room , they all wild pigeons , she has the same problem , she cannot eat , very relaxed . I feed them both , Shea larger , much larger one . So what’s happening ? Do they gossip? How do they know . Both are so relaxed that after one week I could have them sleep on my stomach backward , without touching , for hours,. While I read on my iPad a.. Any views will be most appreciated . Thanks Both
You are like the pigeon ER. I love it! How amazing to be trusted by them. 💓. I have had a lot of birds and believe they communicate with one another. I'm sure the word has spread about you.
6:20 am, Tennessee,,How do you get them to come closer to you,,because this one pigeon,it's smaller then some of the others,I put bird seed out, every morning for all the birds! And the other two pigeons, try and hoard her away from eating,,every day,It pisses me off,but later when most of the birds have eaten and gone, I've seen her, coming back and trying to eat,, I'll go outside guitely,,and talk to her,, like come in baby it's all right, come on,and she slowly will move closer as Im talking to her,or him,I cannot tell,,but it's smaller,,she is calm with me,and will come follow me,but not to close,,How can could I get the pigeon,To come closer,so It will let me give them food outta by hand,or touch it,,Just need some advise,This is all new to me,,But I've come very found of this pigeon, and would like to let it come close to me,,besides her following me when I'm talking to eat,Thanks,😚
@@catherinecraddock7223 Hello , food is the best source of trust , if you have a garden sit on the flour , they love cooked rice , put the rice on your hand by 2nd week u will able to touch them , if there one who needs care , they will find you ... good luck and thanks for the question
My male pigeon is def more docile and easier to handle. I misidentified my pigeons early on on their sex until one laid the egg/started mating. Would love a video on perches, like diy setting up or finding good perches for them
@@animalpeople880 Would you also be able to touch up on things like wing trimming or nail filing/clipping? I know things are different with pigeons since they're flat footed and thus need to fly more to reach places. I got my pigeons wings somewhat clipped so they can still fly but not for long distances (I guess somewhat like a chicken's way of "flight")
I've seen females go so far as try to establish a territory within the pigeon Loft. I was 100% sure "Wings" (She's a great flyer) was a male until she layed her first egg. I have a lot of pigeons, I bring several of them in each night for treats, to observe their behavior and to maintain their trust.
Thank you…a very informative😅 video. How would you manage the eggs from a two hen pair…replace with fake eggs and allow them to sit, or remove entirely?
You really cannot tell unless you DNA test. Assumed my rescue pige was female for a few months before she hit puberty and started acting “masculine”- cooing more loudly than normal, nodding her head, strutting around in circles with her tail down and fanned out, doing new warbling vocals…. I wanted to confirm her sex so I could get her a partner in the future- I fully expected the test to say male but nope! DNA confirmed female, and a very independent and spirited one at that!
Hi Eden! Thank you so much for your videos, I'm finding them so helpful and useful, as I've started to form some gentle bonds with some wild wood pigeons in my back garden. So much of what you've spoken about in videos i've watched so far has matched my guess work with reading their language so it's really nice to know from your teachings that I'm on the right track with treating them well so far! I have a question though, sorry if you've answered this in a video that I've not yet seen, but I'm wondering about how I should be careful with untamed, wild pigeons in respects of parasites, disease and pigeon waste. I know avian flu is running rampant right now, and you've mentioned parasites - what would you recommend in terms of taking care around these issues as I'm spending time building up bonds/feeding these pigeons? I don't know yet where my relationship with these birds will go but they are certainly becoming more trusting and getting closer to me each time they visit, and I just wanted to be aware and prepared about hygiene and risks involved. I don't want to put the birds or myself at risk of harm so wondered what you would advise. Thank you!
I’m very glad you’ve found them so helpful! You didn’t miss anything, it’s a rather complicated topic I’ve intentionally avoided. In regards to human health at this point in time I’ll just recommend you do your own research, as I’m not in a headspace to navigate that mess. Something to keep in mind while doing said research is to always check who is providing the info/funds. For example; if the site you find is connected to a “pest control” company they will potentially have vested interest in you viewing pigeons in a particular way. The pigeon breeder and pigeon exterminator will have very different goals in how clean they want you to think pigeons are. Something I will mention is that as with most animals they are way more likely to get sick from their own kind than a different species, so if you have any birds at home I’d recommend thoroughly cleaning yourself and your clothes between interacting with wild birds and domestic ones, as you don’t want to pass something on to them.
hello! ❤ you said that some female pigeons won't lay eggs, is this just infertility or it may be more something more dangerous? aren't females suppose to lay eggs even without a male or am i missing something?
Eden, I have a burning question: Are people more likely to get sick from a pet dog or cat, or from a pet pigeon? A lot of people think (Feral) pigeon poop spreads diseases transmissible to humans but my homework showed otherwise. Please, can you clarify?
I’m still in the process of researching so I don’t want to say anything definitive yet, but so far its looking like the risk has been greatly exaggerated. I will make a video on the topic once I get more clarity on the topic.
A way I look at this is that dogs and cats tongues are their toilet paper! Cats will walk through their poop in the litter tray and dogs will eat theirs pigeons and doves only walk over it. Yet people will allow dogs and cats to lick their faces yet are repelled by birds. Go figure!
@@geoffpilcher2460 Correct. Plus with dogs & cats you get fleas & ticks which could expose you to more diseases, not to mention fleas suck! Hi Eden, I just loved this video - I couldn't agree more with your findings!😃 I don't own a pigeon but I observe and support those outside my windows:) Often males have relatively bigger feet than females - this can be especially visible while observing a couple of nestlings. Still - you can never be 100% sure until they mate, have eggs and come in turns while being on eggs😃 Anyway - congratulations on Tallulah's DNA certificate!🥰
Thank you for your vidio. I picked up pigeon chick fallen out of the nest month ago. And now I am looking for more information what to do. Because she, I think that she is she somehow, doesn't want to fly any further then my hause roof... And want to return back as soon as posdible to the room she now is accupaing. She is lovely, but I would like she could live pigeons life...
I'm about half a year into having a pigeon and I have no idea if they're male or female. They display both behaviours but have not laid an egg. At one point I was worried they were egg bound as I felt a hard lump near their exit but it turned out they were just constipated and it was all poop.
Ok, I have 2 pigeons that I believe are paired up. The more aggressive one in which I thought was a male and actually mated with the other less aggressive one. Then another day, the other one in which I thought was a female was on top of the male and mated. Can anyone explain why the male laid down and let the other one mate? Each time that I saw them mate, it was a successful and complete mating ritual. The one that I thought was a female is a young bird. It always follow the call of the older bird. As of today they are looking for the right box to build a nest. The OB coos and hides and the YB comes looking. Thanks for any comments
I remember my fiance and I found a sick dove and treated them (I know it's not a pigeon but they act very similar) we just assumed he was a boy....well surprise surprise when we found an egg in her food bowl. I just remember yelling to my fiance Rangers a girl!!

Took me a few minutes to see tallulah's tail. white bird, white top equals invisible bird. I think a good reason for wanting to know the gender of a bird is just so you can give the bird a name. Otherwise every bird has to be 'Sam' or 'Jo(e)'. I have a silly question - does pigeon poo belong in the bin or does it have value as plant food? Just asking for a friend.

People ask me. Is it a boy or girl? IDK. She's not even talking yet. The voice could clue me in. Some species of chickens (which I'm more familiar with) have different plumage on males and females, and by sexual maturity, there is LITTLE DOUBT who is who. As the bird just lives as a beloved pet, the only reason I'm curious is to wonder if he/she will leave to mate. *shrug* We're about a week away from getting the adult voice, so...I'll have to hold a gender reveal for them...LOL. WHY? So we can buy pink or blue pigeon diapers? LOL Vent check is far too invasive for me, especially such a small bird. (how would YOU feel?)
