I just bought a note air, It now comes with the screen protector applied from the factory so its writing feels is much improved, its better as good if not better than the remarkable 2 which it replaced. I replaced the remarkable many because the notes are just not readable once you export them but it was also just to limited in functionality. Apart from my favourite movie reviewers (Margaret and David), I think you're the best reviewer I've ever seen. And that was probably the best review of a product I've ever seen. I was up all night watching many videos - I could have just watched yours!
Well done! Your reviews are always well orgnaized, thorough and delivered flawlessly. I just received my new SuperNote A5x a few days ago and I absolutely love it. I got the Lamy pen version and like you said it’s a joy to use. I completely agree with your assessment of each device as I have also owned a Boox and ReMarkable. I also get the feeling that SuperNote is more responsive to their user’s requirements than the other manufacturers. I look forward to watching your future videos. Thank you.
Thanks for the amazing and thorough review! For anyone interests in the Boox Note Air, I got my Boox Note Air and its cover around two weeks ago. The screen protector has been pre-applied by default; it does save me from the hassle of applying it. The new cover also uses a plastic holder to hold the machine instead of the 3M tape shown in the video. Boox is really listening to the feedback from its users.
Excellent comparison, Voja. I really like your detailed analysis of different aspects of the three devices - you make choosing the right one a lot easier. Thanks!
I love my RM1 but the note air just replaced it. Your section about customizability and versatility really resonated with me. Remarkable really needs to make the user experience much smoother and simpler (eg. adding templates).
I got the RM1 with the Pen and Folio for $299. Considering the software limitations, they really should be selling the RM2 with the pen and basic folio for $350. Also the plastic screen on the RM1 seems to be more durable then the glass on the RM2... I've seen a few posts on reddit where people have broken the RM2 glass with minor drops.
@@MyDeepGuide I’ve watched so many of these reviews and RM2 is always a favorite. My hang-up is the inability to search handwritten notes. Is there some sort of work around?
This video was super helpful for me! Just ordered a SuperNote A5X largely prompted by this video as I was originally strongly considering the RM2. You made many great points that led me to further investigation and I see a lot of advantages to the SN for my use case.
At 45:22 you said that none of the covers have a magnet that will hold it close but I have the same book folio as you and it does have magnets that hold it shut. I can feel a slight pull when opening the book folio with and without the tablet in it. The force of the magnets can also be felt when taking the tablet out of the case. The magnets are along the side of the case where the pen goes.
Which device are you talking about and which cover? You didn't specify. EDIT: I assume you are talking about the rM2. I have double checked now and indeed it does. During testing it seemed as if it didn't have it, but yes, a slight pull is there and it works, up to a point. I have made a Pinned comment addressing this, so that people can easily see the correction. Thank you for pointing it out :)
😄 As a (two actually) Supernote owner I agree with your opinions about it. I am watching your video on my own and when I do not agree I comment like "nooo, why?", then you explain and it always ends up with a "Ah. Ok, yes, you are right". LOL
wow this video helped so much! for weeks i thought i'd buy a remarkable because i want to read my pdfs on an e-ink screen but now i am absolutely sure there are better options for me. thank you so much for covering the reading experience!
There are rewies and then there are YOUR reviews. Great job! Not trying to sell one over the other and giving clear explanations to every category. And very important: it doesn't end with a three way tie just to keep all potentioal sponsors happy. I was quite setteld on the Remarkable (probably because of their marketing) but now the only thing clear to me is that I'm not getting that one, lol.
Thank you for your extremely detailed and broad analysis! Never seen anyone else break it down so well. It's a shame that reMarkable has such limited features when it could easily have had way better functionality as well as its amazing pencil-on-paper feel. I was almost going to buy it but after doing some in depth research and seeing this review I'm glad I didn't rush. I think it's going to be the Supernote A5X for me.
what an outstanding review ! You managed to convince me, before I was torn between those three but now I know the Supernote A5X is exactly what I need :D

Hi Voja. Thank you for another excellent review. Many months ago, I saw your review of Supernote and bought an A6 (compact form factor and writing feel being priorities). Do not regret my choice. Agree with your observations. Cheers!
This video was so helpful! I had all my questions answered and even some that I didn't think to think of! Thanks for this deep dive comparison of these devices. Our organization went with the Boox Note Air 👍🏾
Hi Voja, thanks so much for your detailed analysis, so helpful! Simple questions but important ones for me: 1) can you write using stylus on the Note Air directly into Google Keep/Google Docs? 2) for Note Air, can you share screen and do whiteboarding using apps like Zoom?
I have been using Boox note air 2 plus for a couple of days and I am really happy with it. I feel bad for not having it for a long time and wasted so much time is researching for Remarkable 2. One of my classmates uses Remarkable 2 and as much as it looks smart, NA2P is way ahead. The writing experience is great, there is a back to school scheme going which costed me 500 euros for the tablet, two pens (with and without eraser), 5 extra pen tips, and the case. What annoyed me from R2 is that everything single thing that you really got to have has a cost attached. Not even the pen is free with it!! You have to buy conneccting to cloud for a monthly fee, have to buy pen and the case separately which made its cost come around 490 euros. I am really happy with my Boox tab.
@@89DerChristian - By that time it maybe too late for them. And in truth, I have no issue with that. I dont wish them ill but no-one has a divine right to be in business & win. You earn it. Hi Voja: Been on the fence for awhile and watch your reviews all the time especially the latest software updates for Super Note. Now that you have the benefit of the newest software updates and what Ratta is planning at least up until December do you have a different opinion b/w note air vs supernote?
How do these compare on sensitivity to hand pressure (palm and finger dragging while writing notes)? For me, that's the biggest issue. I don't want to have to hold the pen like a paintbrush to keep my hand off the surface. Great comparison video. Thanks.
I just got my remarkable 2, and was quite disappointed with how imprecisely it registers the location of the stylus. At times the stylus is being registered about a millimetre off of where it's actually touching, which is driving me nuts. I've seen other people on reddit report the same issue and according to remarkable themselves, this is a hardware issue. Does the supernote a5x have the same issue?
I wish there was a cover as gorgeous as the one for the supernote for the note air as well. I am thinking about getting the note air 2 for the functionality, but visually I would prefer one that looks like a notebook. It would be really cool.
Interesting consideration on the cost of the tablets. I bought the Remarkable 2 yesterday and found that there really was no "default" pen or cover. Both are optional purchases when you build your package and you can chose neither (thought I chose both.) As a result you could purchase a R2 with a Lamy pen and third party cover without throwing money away on default accessories you don't want. This I really apprecated.
While technically true, you will really want a cover of some sort, because this expensive device is quite fragile, because of it's thinness. As for the pen, again, while technically true, yes, you can buy a Lamy pen, but you don't have the magnets in it and you can't use the eraser button without hacking the device and breaching the terms and conditions of use of the device. So, in reality, overwhelming majority of buyers will opt to buy a cover or folio and a pen of some sort, and the price mentioned reflects that reality.
@@MyDeepGuide I didn't realize the eraser button didn't work with it on the R2. I had been trying to find out more about the compatibility on that one. That's a shame as I love Lamy pens.
I want to add about the flip cover for Boox. The one that I have is fully magnetic and has a loop over to trap the pen magnetically attached stay in place. This sticky version is weird
excellent analysis of the 3 tablets! for a college student, would you opt for the Boox or Supernote? Perhaps I missed it, but do any have the ability for student to have e-textbooks on the device? my daughter has been using her ipad pro for college, but I wonder if something like this is a better option for her. anyone with experience in this area, please share thoughts!
so if I want to buy a pad purely for taking notes with the closest feel to actual paper writing, which one should I buy? You can also include options which require a different stylus.
That would be from what I have understood the remarkable 2 with the Samsung tab s6 lite pen (but that one do not have an erase function without hacking the remarkable).
About writing or drawing quality: The "jagged lines" effect of non-rasterized exportations with the reMarkable can be fixed in 3 seconds with Illustrator after the exportation by going "object > path > simplifiy" and then you lower the number of point around your shapes. It's a non-issue if sketches are importants and in fact, a very precise non-restarized image is kind of great if you are about to use illustrator anyway in your workflow.
Sure, it can be fixed, but it should have to be fixed for Remarkable to have the same quality results as Boox, for example. That's my point. Plus, this issue has been fixed by the Remarkable since the, so obviously it was a problem worth pressing on in order for users to get a higher quality product, without the requirement of always fixing exported results.
I'm surprised there's not more reMarkable fans on here spamming how you're a shill for Boox, that the writing experience on remarkable is in another dimension and that all those damned distractions (you can just turn off) are so annoying! i.e. a blatant attempt to pass off a lack of features as a selling point.. My god every video or review of the Note Air has had a bunch of those commenters I was moments from pulling the trigger on a remarkable 2 but after your in depth review of the Note Air and this comparison why would I? The Remarkable 2 might have an advantage in latancy and "paper feel" (and not by a huge amount it looks like) but literally EVERYTHING else is woefully subpar in comparison. Great review, thanks for all the hard work you do for these!
This is brilliant! Thanks so much for this detailed review, I really needed this, great content 🙏. I was really close to buy remarkable 2 but all the reviews regarding them being non-responsive and unhelpful when it comes to issues really put me off and was worried to go ahead with the purchase. Your detailed review of these 3 really helped me decide to go for super note. Thanks a million! 🤗
Thank you for all of your reviews, its really appreciated. I'm trying to decide between the Quaderno Gen 2 Comparison, Onyx Max Limi and Papyr devices(13.3" screens). I'm a designer (architectural, kitchen and bath) and would be using it to record drawing layouts and measurements while on site along with signing contracts/documents(PDF's) also while on site. I would then need to take those notes and signed PDF's and upload them on my computer. Which would be the best device for this type of use? LIKE- Quaderno Gen 2: Newer/faster hardware, the ability to use any pen Onyx Max Limi : The ability to use layers, back light, more overall options Papyr: Price, speed/latency Most important - 1.speed/latency and ease of import and 2.export of notes and signed documents/pdfs Thanks for your help
That's a really good review - by its lenght it's really good to have the chaptermarks - I see you are as organized in your videos as on these tablets ;) My main usecase would be PDF magazine reading and I guess the Boox is the best choice. Why are larger (13") tablets are not a thing yet? Pricetag of the display or just to large to be comfortable to use?
I am sorry, I could not catch your name well. Is it Voya? Your review is wonderful & DEEEEEEEEEP indeed! Hence the reason, I spent the whole hour to view the entire video. I need a couple of tips or clarifications, please.. 1. This is May 2022 now so, is there anything that may have changed since to find favour in the Remarkable 2? 2. Is there any third party peripherals that can enhance the functionality of Note Air.. with regards to Pen/Stylus, Writing/drawing feel & the protective case cover.. I am contrasting directly with the SuperNote A5X as you cite in the video.. for its superior quality and ability in these? 3. Like that Ceramic tip stylus, can it be used on the Notre Air or a Lamour Stylus pen? Thank you Kiran
Hello, you said you used a Samsung pen (?HP tip?) not found it. Can you please give us the reference of the pen you are using with the Onyx Boox Note Air
Great video! It's a shame for the Remarkable 2 which is a beautiful device. The Boox note air is also great. Therefore it's best functionality I bought the Boox note air 2. Love your videos...Thank you.
This is an amazing comparison video, absolutely useful and so interesting. Would love to buy the Boox Note but read quite a lot of forum posts about battery issues and that the service is limited to replace them. Who would expect expanding batteries in a tablet/reader ?!?!?!!?
Thanks for the detailed video, very informative! I want to ask if there are other pens that work for Boox Note Air to compensate the poor performance of the default pen?
Thank you so much for this elaborate review. Could you share which customisations you’ve done for the screen and pen in order to increase the writing function?
I’d really like to know this as well. It seems the Boox is a really great item but the writing experience is incredibly important to me, so I’d like to know which upgrades I need to get in order to have a more paper like writing experience.
Hi. Can you please clarify what pen, nib and screen protector you used to improve the writing feel of the Boox? I want to take your advice, but I cant quite work out work out what you said at that point of the vid. (4mins and 30 seconds in). Thanks in advance!
Voja, awesome channel and great reviews! Question: The RM2 has had numerous software updates that you've reported on since you did this review in February. If you were to do this comparison today, would the Supernote A5X still be a better choice for note taking than the RM2?
Excellent review; thank you! is it possible to use a SuperNote pen with a Boox? I really don't like the idea of constant nib replacement, but prefer the Boox on pretty much every other thing!
Thank you for you thorough review. 🙂I really appreciate it. Being an owner of the Onyx note air, I would like to ask you what pen do you suggest for a better experience, as you mentioned that. I also would like to add that now the onyx note air is shipped with the protective film already on. It might be useful to know for potential buyers. Thank you for your help🙏
Well done. Remarkable is too pricey for what you get. I would go for the A5x instead of boox for one reason l. Boox is an expensive bad Android tablet. A5x is a true e-ink writing experience.
GREAT review! ... I had ordered the reMarkable, but I managed to cancel it. reMarkable looks very cool, but I now see that it has SO many deficiencies that would have made it undesirable for me in the long run. I have now ordered a Boox Note Air, because it delivers the advantages I consider most important to me. Perhaps reMarkable will improve with future updates, but I just can't wait for that.

Wow great review! Was strongly considering a Remarkable 2 for book reading and jazz charts.. will reconsider to the Boox platform, thank you! Shows the power of marketing I guess...

@@GetOffMyyLawn Wait, I'm confused. Which one did you find better? You repeated yourself or the product at one point.
I have watched so many reviews of these devices. HANDS DOWN the best, most comprehensive, and well organized.
Thank you very much :)
@@MyDeepGuide I’ve watched so many of these reviews and RM2 is always a favorite. My hang-up is the inability to search handwritten notes. Is there some sort of work around?
This video helped me make my decision. I have decided on the supernote A5X. Thank you for the review.
This video was super helpful for me! Just ordered a SuperNote A5X largely prompted by this video as I was originally strongly considering the RM2. You made many great points that led me to further investigation and I see a lot of advantages to the SN for my use case.
Glad to hear that it helped make your decision :)
This is the most useful, in depth, and comprehensive review of all reviews I've ever seen. Nice work.
Agreed! Makes you want to jump the gun, but wallet says otherwise.
The most thorough and useful review I have found for professional tech. Thank you for having such a detailed review to help me make my decision.
This is just genius
The whole point system n the way it is presented is just top notch
What would be great is a comparison of those tablets with the new Boox Note Air 2. I have heard that the writing feel is extremely improved.
08:07 Sad to hear Remarkable does not plan to fix the jagged line issue :(
Thank you for your extremely detailed and broad analysis!
✓ 1-hour, thorough, intelligent review and comparison
✓ Summarized conclusion up-front
Liked & Subscribed. Thank you for providing this grade of content!
I would LOVE to see this redone in light of the SN updates AND the Note Air 2.
Simple questions but important ones for me:
1) can you write using stylus on the Note Air directly into Google Keep/Google Docs?
2) for Note Air, can you share screen and do whiteboarding using apps like Zoom?
Hi, did you learn anything? Thanks...
When is ReMarkable going to lift its game with a real and efficient software. This waste of potential baffles me...
Probably not until some more serious competition in the West arises. They spend all their money on marketing and it seems to work
@@89DerChristian - By that time it maybe too late for them. And in truth, I have no issue with that.
I dont wish them ill but no-one has a divine right to be in business & win. You earn it.
The best way to 'earn it' is listening to your customers and doing the right things by them. Ignoring them = Bankruptcy fast.
@@Amazon_Zeus they’ll probably be bought up by their Chinese competitor in a few years ago like Segway.
@@89DerChristian its A norway company dude....wtf are you talking about
@@steliostoulis1875 Right. It lacks competitors in the west.
thank you man this was the best legit the best review ive watched im so glad i found you
Amazing review. Loved the format with categories and rankings.
As a researcher, I appreciate your logical and thorough review.
Long, but one of the best reviews for ANYTHING I've ever seen!
Thank you for this. It was long but really helped me decide which device was bas for me. Answered every question I could have
Hi Voja: Been on the fence for awhile and watch your reviews all the time especially the latest software updates for Super Note.
Thanks.
I need this answer too
Hello, I have one question for you.
Do these kind of devices last in time? How is their durability?
This is a superb review! So in-depth and informative. Thank you!
Just WOOW man! Excellent video, cant ask for more! Thanks man tremendous effort, very useful!
So glad I found this video! Almost spent the money for a remarkable
me too!
So which one did you choose and why not remarkable 2?
I have the reMarkable 2 and I don't want another paper tablet... 🤣
And I have no money to buy them all.. 😁
Amazing review! As a rM1 user I was wondering how much its competition is capable of. Now I know! Thank you :)
Thank you for filming these informative videos. They really help a lot.
Awesome comparisons. This really give a good idea what these 3 devices are about. Lots of very good observations
Thanks for the fantastic breakdown of these three devices.
Excellent comparison. Thank you for your perspective. I still love my rM2 in spite of its flaws. It's like my favorite sports teams in that way.
I'm so glad to hear this. I just purchased mine without knowing these other ones existed. Wish I'd seen this video first but glad you like yours!
@@MyDeepGuide Good to know that is it fixed now. I am still trying to choose between the models. Good video btw!
My god every video or review of the Note Air has had a bunch of those commenters
I was moments from pulling the trigger on a remarkable 2 but after your in depth review of the Note Air and this comparison why would I?
LIKE-
Quaderno Gen 2: Newer/faster hardware, the ability to use any pen
Onyx Max Limi : The ability to use layers, back light, more overall options
Papyr: Price, speed/latency
Most important - 1.speed/latency and ease of import and 2.export of notes and signed documents/pdfs
Thanks for your help
First and only review I found pointing out limitations of reMarkable 2. Thank you I almost made a huge mistake.
La mejor review que he visto por mucho.
¡Muchas gracias por la excelente información!
Wow, this is such a comprehensive review❤❤❤
Thank you so much for the time stamps!!
You are the king.
Supernote just release their update video, which looks much better. Still looking forward to its potential :D
That's a really good review - by its lenght it's really good to have the chaptermarks - I see you are as organized in your videos as on these tablets ;)
My main usecase would be PDF magazine reading and I guess the Boox is the best choice.
Why are larger (13") tablets are not a thing yet? Pricetag of the display or just to large to be comfortable to use?
There is see Boox Note Max3
Thank you
Kiran
Thank you - this helped a lot! Well done, perfect conclusion. I googled, read, searched...but this answered all of my questions :)
Thanks so much for a great review, so well done and so detailed, great work
Imho, Lamy Pen + Wacom Felt Nib gives the best writing experience for Note Air: no clicking, not slippery, no need for protector, feels like paper.
Hi, could you define it more precisely which product you use? If i google it, there are many options...
Yes, can you give us a product example please.
Hello, you said you used a Samsung pen (?HP tip?) not found it.
Can you please give us the reference of the pen you are using with the Onyx Boox Note Air
Thank you for the amazingly thought out reviews!
I want to ask if there are other pens that work for Boox Note Air to compensate the poor performance of the default pen?
did you find out anything relevant?
Thanks! Your revue really helped me to take a decision.
Where is the video mentioned at 7:00?
Voja, awesome channel and great reviews! Question: The RM2 has had numerous software updates that you've reported on since you did this review in February. If you were to do this comparison today, would the Supernote A5X still be a better choice for note taking than the RM2?
With the subscription model in place now remarkable pushed itself out of the picture.
That's a good way of looking at it, thanks.
By the way, love the 40 mins Pillow Testing! So thoughtful and thorough.
Nice review. B-roll with footage of using the devices would have been awesome. Maybe next time.
Wow great review! Was strongly considering a Remarkable 2 for book reading and jazz charts.. will reconsider to the Boox platform, thank you! Shows the power of marketing I guess...
This review is GREAT :D
I appreciated you said your favourite first.
That helped me to continue watching^^
Left a like👍
Simply phenomenal review! So helpful. Thank You!
Thank you so much for creating this valuable resource!
21:40 So what is the difference between a short press and a long press of the power button? Because the long press seems to power off the device.
Long press is shut down, short press is sleep/stand by. Issue I am talking about is the absence of auto shut down functionality, at the moment.
