    So i bought the Note Air 2 to check it out using the 30-day money back guarantee. I really thought i might want to replace the reMarkable 2. Despite these videos being spot-on (as always) and despite setting up the device according to the Big Boox Guide, it just wasn’t for me. It turns out that all that functionality distracts me. (The distraction is in the form of “should i use this tool? Maybe there’s an app for that” etc instead of just writing.) The annoyance is that to return the device, there is a $20 restocking fee (understandable) and shipping both ways between US and Hong Kong. I bought from the US store… so that’s more than i expected to spend to try it out :( Anyway just putting that info out there in case it helps someone else

    The Nova 3 might be great for reading colour books and documents but the note air 2 is faster at everything else and text is much sharper too because it doesn't have that extra colour layer

    Small point about X mode: I actually got a lot of use out of it on my Note 2. Even in its earlier versions, it has at least one very powerful use case: Typing! Link your boox device to a bluetooth keyboard, prop it up, and you have a perfect distraction-free digital typewriter. X mode is ideal for this because it means that the characters appear with very little latency.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, they are of a different standard. Air 1 pen used a non standard nib that wouldn't accept other, standard nibs, such as Wacom, Remarkable or other "standard" nibs. Air 2 pen is using the normal standard, so it can accept a much wider range of substitute nibs.

    Thanks for the review. This decided the matter for me between Elipsa and Note Air 2. I was initially worried that the price difference between Elipsa and Note Air 2 wouldn't be fully justified, especially if it was an incremental improvement over the Note Air 1 like you were concerned with. Especially since I live in Canada, the price difference is quite steep. I was looking forward to the math function of the Elipsa advanced notebook, but it looks like that is a marginal advantage over everything this one gets right.

    • @FernandoRodriguez-pj5uh
      @FernandoRodriguez-pj5uh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the Elipsa for several months. What I love about it is the text conversion where you convert a few sentences and you can keep writing in the same page and Convert the rest of the text later. What the Note Air 2 has is all the customization and App downloads that Elipsa doesnt have.

    Thanks for your great reviews. I recently purchased a Nova Air. I love it but now see that I will benefit more from a larger device. I am considering the Note Air 2 or Note 5. I don't see much difference except for the shape/form factor which has me confused as to why Onyx has developed both. Is there a more important difference that I am missing? Or should I just chose the shape that would be most comfortable for me?

    Thanks for the review and for addressing the one major headache I have with Notes. I can't make heads or tails of the canvas scaling. It is the one frustration I have with my device, specifically the issues that arise when starting a notebook in portrait mode and then trying to use that same notebook in split screen horizontal mode to take notes on a book. I cannot for the life of me get the notebook to display/function in a good way and it prevents me from using it. Does the user simply need to make a choice when they start a notebook and decide whether to make it a "portrait" notebook or a "horizontal" notebook? I hope this will be covered in depth in the 3.2 video.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, you have to decide if the notebook will be in portrait or landscape mode. To be fair, I don't know of a single platform that can actually dynamically change between portrait and landscape, as it can't know or keep track of your writing to re order it when switching from one orientation to another. So this is perfectly normal and expected, but the unnecessary complexity of the canvas system is something that should be improved.

    • @ernestintownandjackintheco1024
      @ernestintownandjackintheco1024 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MyDeepGuide I just discovered something: I use the same canvas as you do, and everything works properly when switching between portrait and split screen horizontal mode IF I start with the Notes application in portrait mode and go to split screen from there (with Kindle on the other side).
      But I have to start split screen mode from the Notes application, otherwise I will not get the note with the template to display properly. Really wonky behavior, but this works (I’m on the Lumi2).

    Hi and thank you so much for your videos! I have a fairly specific question and wanted to know your thoughts: I'm thinking of getting the note air 2 for pastoral work, taking notes in meetings etc etc BUT also for preaching. Have you ever used an e ink device for any kind of public speaking? What are your thoughts on that?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use it regularly on my lectures, I have everything setup and ready in case it's needed, so that when I need to present something on the screen, I just grab it, draw or write or show what I want to show and that's that. So, it basically replaces the whiteboard and the added plus is that what I show geta captured by the screen recorder, so the explanation is available in the lecture capture video, for students to reference back to, or for those who couldn't make it to the lecture.

      1. No fingerprint sensor on Note Air 2, but yes, you can set a lock pin code.
      2. It's ok for voice communication, listening to audio books etc, but anything beyond that, I mean, it's a small mono speaker. Those are there for such basic functionality, nothing more.

    Do you have any suggestions on how to take care of the battery? I had a boox note and after roughly two years the battery died, now I have note air 2, and it's great, so I would like it to last.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sure, there are a couple of general things to keep in mind:
      1. Avoid rapid charge and rapid discharge at the same time, for example, keeping it plugged in and using it as an external screen, or playing videos etc.
      2. Avoid discharging below 20%. And if you really are worried and you want to get the maximum out of the battery, then it shouldn't be charged over 80% either. There might be apps out there that could help with that process. I charge it to a 100%, but don't let it discharge below 25%.
      3. Avoid leaving the device exposed to direct sunlight or around a heat source, while charging. Heat is the number 1 enemy for batteries.
      These tips apply equally to any device.

    @incarnam132 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this review. I decided to buy this device, but I have a question. What if this soft plastic protector gets damaged or worn over time? Since it's not removable. Do you think that placing a the doodroo screen protector for preventing damage is too much? And will it increases the distance between the nib of the pen and the screen surface too much? Thanks for your amazing work

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, if you bang it hard enough to damage the screen protector, likelihood is that will break the screen as well, in which case the damage to the screen protector will no longer be important. If you use the device normally and you don't use ceramic nibs, I really don't see that happening in the normal lifespan of a device like this.
      Adding another screen protector is an overkill and it will just degrade the performance of everything, pen, distance touch, image clarity. So no, that's not something I would consider doing.

    Hey man, amazingly detailed reviews! Love all the work that you put intonthese videos. Ive got a question about the pen nibs. Pretty much everywhere i do find the nibs online they say nit compatible with air line but with note 2. Ive just got the nite air 2 and cant seem to decide what nibs to get. Any help would be immensely appreciated❤

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Note Air 1 and Nova Air came with an older version of the pen that looks the same as the new one, but those pens used a custom, non compatible type of nibs. Thankfully, Nota Air 2, Max Lumi 2, Note 5, Nova Air C all come as standard with the new pen, which is better and uses a "regular" nib standard, something that the majority of EMR pens out there use, such as the Remarkable and standard Boox Nibs.

  • @k8chillx

    I just got the notebook air 2 (you convinced me!) and came back to this video because I tried to do template to have like a 2 column to write on landscape and when writing it was fine. But then after it is saved and I go back to my note, the notes then get scaled real small and then I have to zoom in to "fit canvas" again. It won't save it to fit canvas, so each time I go out and try to view my note again I kept having to zoom to fit canvas for it to look right. I don't know if that makes sense but you probably came across it. I hope they will update it and fix it!

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you used canvas scaling to achieve the side by side columns, then yeah. That's one of the issues I mentioned that the canvas scaling and the template scaling are too fiddly and not working well enough and would have to be improved.

    Merci à vous pour cette revue détaillée. Dans les notes manuscrites, il est difficile de tourner la page, on peut certes utiliser les signes “” dans le menu mais le mouvement du doigt sur la vitre doit être très précis pour y arriver. Ce n’est pas le cas des documents PDF, un simple toucher à gauche ou à droite tourne la page, comme c’est le cas des liseuses, mais ça ne fonctionne pas pour les notes où le mouvement exigé est très précis : il faut apparemment traverser la vitre du doigt à une certaine vitesse sur une certaine longueur, on se trompe au début une fois sur cinq, c’est assez pénible, mais peut-être n’ai-je pas vu quelque chose. Best regards

    Voya, first of all I want to thank you for your hard work and the great channel that you're running. On the second hand I just want to ask you two questions about which one, for you, is the best 10.3 device just for reading (for me the screen clarity, crispness and battery are all that I'm looking for). Other question is, in case you think 8 inches is better for reading, which one do you think is the best taking into account the battery and the screen clarity and crispness. Thank you very very much, I had to return a kobo sage because of the battery issue that is worst with koreader and I'm looking for something similar or better just to read big fantasy books and probably some academic manuals.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There isn't a single device that has all of the things you mentioned as strong points. It's like an RPG character. So you need to prioritize what is most important for you, what's the second most important thing for you and then categorize devices according to your priorities list.
      Me saying that my favorite 10.3" eNote device for reading is Note Air doesn't mean much to you, because my list of priorities will differ from yours, therefore it might not be the best device for you.

    • @SoulSerenade
      @SoulSerenade 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyDeepGuide Thank you very much. You're right, the thing is the best device for me is the kobo sage but the thing is the terrible battery, I can't get more than 5 hours of reading and is the second unit I'm having with this issues. So, I supose, the thing that I want is a device with a similar screen crispness but with more battery than 5 hours. Or, in the other hand I think that, having the carta 1200, the kobo elipsa would look similar (with 227 ppi) and will have a better battery probably?

However, battery power conservation is something that I wish to maintain. When I refer to "power-on-time," I am looking for the amount of time it takes the tablet , that is in the off-position, to be fully functional after pressing the power-on button. Also, the amount of time it takes to progress from a sleep-mode to the on-position.

    I think it is possible to transfer via USB-c pdf's from PC to the Note Air, right? How about if the OS of the computer is Linux. Will the reader show up in my list of directories and attached storage devices?
    I have read that sometimes you don't see the 'Notes' that you created and that you should log in to your Onyx account to remedy such event. How about my downloaded and stored pdf's and epub's, are they always available (also offline) or do they also require a login occasionally.
    A third and last question concerns the use of dictionaries while reading a (pdf) document. Are there preloaded dictionaries or is it possible to install other/more dictionaries. That dictionary function seems very useful to me. That is why I ask.

    Hello Voja, great videos. I have a few questions -
    1. I understand from your videos that the One note app is buggy both on boox air 2 and supernote A6 - but since both these are android apps, I asm assuming we can install chrome and access one-note web view. What is the typing experience like in one note via chrome?
    2. Do both these devices convert handwritten text into typed text?
    3. Can I connect these devices to my PC like an additional screen and share it in communicator tools like skype or MS teams?
    4. Can I install apps like Grammarly for spelling and grammar correction? If not is spelling and grammar correction available natively

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically it's a no on all of the things you mentioned regarding the OneNote. One note is not available on the Supernote and One not will not work quickly when accessed from the web browser, if it works at all.
      Suprenote doesn't convert entire pages of handwriting to text, but it has other functionality that does, if used correctly and regularly, replace the need for it (titles and keywords in notebooks).
      Boox does support screen sharing on windows 10. For other platforms you will need to find and use an app that will allow you to do that. Super it can't to that yet.
      I haven't tried grammarly. If it exists as a separate Android app, then yes. If it's a browser extension, then no, as that doesn't work on Android.

    I just received my note air 2 and one of the main reasons I choose this over the supernote was your review. I do want to use this for work and I have a form we use with every client that is a fillable PDF... how do I put this form on my device so I can pull it up and save it for each client and still have my original?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simply transfer the PDF file onto the device and then each time you need a new version for a new client, long press on the PDF, make a copy, paste it where you want to, rename it accordingly to match the client and then fill it out. So basically, just make a copy of the original each time you need it and make sure it's placed into a logical directory and named properly.

      @@MyDeepGuide oh wow that's great news. both Note Air 1 and A5X can't do this right? I'm used to writing on Samsung Galaxy Note Series and there I can search for any handwritten word that's in my notes. Without such a strong function I can't use a digital note taking alternative. A strong search and very good handwriting recognition is a must. Can you take this subject in part 2 of this review?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All Boox devices that are capable of note taking can do that. A5X can't yet, but it has other, maybe even more powerful organizational tools, such as creating a TOC of your notebook. For me, still the most powerful function for real world use, because the word search will always rely on how accurate the handwriting recognition is, which makes it not 100% reliable. TOC functionality in Supernote is 100% reliable, because it doesn't rely on things like that.
      Also, part 2 was made available 30 minutes after part 1, so all of it has been published. Handwriting conversion is platform specific, not device specific, and this will be covered in the general guide videos.

      It's better in writing experience and in reader functionality, but Supernote still has several functionalities that I absolutely adore, and no other platform has it, primarily for me, the ability to add titles in notebooks and basically create a TOC in your notebook. No other platform has that. Plus, it has amazing pens with ceramic nibs that don't spend, and it's all plastic and robust fall testing they did makes it a more durable and robust device, and it's UI is far friendlier and easier to deal with than the Boox environment. To me, they are equally useful devices while each one has their strong points over the other.

      Note Air 2 has a glass top screen that has a paperlike structure laminated to it. So hardness is the one of glass, but because of the paperlike surface and the soft nib pen, it feels a lot softer to write on, than on a regular tablet/phone. As for durability, I don't know what the hardness grade of the glass is, so I can't offer much more insight there, unfortunately.

    The canvas adjustments are a nightmare. I'm using the 20 point lined template and like it quite a bit. However, when I try to pinch to zoom in or out, or try to scroll, sometimes this changes the canvas height or width, and then everything is messed up. I cannot get things back to the state before that happened, and the handwriting is out of sync with the template lines. Do you have any advice for using the lined template and preventing this kind of mess?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely none, as it's as you described and I complained in the video and mentioned to Boox, the way it "works" now is severely flawed. Yes, there is technically a way of achieving a result, but it's ridiculously convoluted and not really something that can be normally used ,as it's akin to a project, where the order of each of the steps determines if the end result will be a mess or if it will work.
      The only advice I have is to avoid using it, if you can, u til they fix it properly and to disable pinch to zoom, because accidental zoom can also cause an unholy mess.
      They should just scrap the canvas feature, because what they have here is borderline useless.
      What sometimes works for me is exiting the notebook, entering again, changing the template, exiting again, entering again and then changing back. But only sometimes.

    • @OilPainter01
      @OilPainter01 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyDeepGuide that’s hilarious. The disabling of pinch to zoom is a great tip, thanks!
      May I ask another question: I see a lot of icons and I don’t know what they do. Is there a reference that I could go to that tells what what each icon is for? I know when I customize the toolbar I can longpress and it will tell me, but that doesn’t cover all the icons. I don’t know why they would assume that people know what all the icons mean.
      Sorry one last question: how can I disable pinch to zoom in Notes? I cannot find that.
