My goal this year is to try to stick reading the books I already own or borrow more from the library/Libby app. So I’ve been making it a practice each month to shop my shelves for my monthly TBR. The real struggle is to not to not go randomly book shopping 😅😅😅😂😂😂😂
I've been meaning to read Crime and Punishment forever. I tried to read it in 8th grade because my mom said it was a great book, but it was a no-go then.😊
I’ve also been meaning to read it for almost 10 years now. And I just can’t muster up the mental strength to do that. I can clear a large fantasy book no problem, but give me a Russian classic and I’m shaking in my boots. 😭
I made a spreadsheet of all the books that I already own but haven't read yet and sorted it by format (hardcopy, ebook, audiobook) and I find it really helps motivate me to keep reading from that list because deleting them from the spreadsheet as I read them satisfies a very specific mental itch. It also motivates me to use the library more for new books so I don't have to add them to my spreadsheet.
Son of the Storm! I got that for Christmas the year it came out....got the sequel this year for Christmas...have not read either of them. But they look great! They sound great too! I'll also get to them sometime. haha
As a Russian literature minor with unsolicited advice - the most readily available translation of classic Russian lit was done by Constance Garnett, and her work is not the best tbh? v much worked within the context of her time (late 1800's early 1900's iirc). there's a new one by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky which is def truer to the original text i have opinions about translations lmao sorry, love to see you again!
I finally did it!!! Every time you mention Boardwalk, I got to their website and poke around and inevitably find something but don’t buy. EXCEPT FOR TADAAY!!!! I just couldn’t help myself 😂
You unlocked a core memory with The Journey of Allen Strange reference! I think you should read Paper Menagerie first (and this from someone who really didn't like Grace of Kings)
That laugh at 5:23 was a little scary🤪 Battle Royale is worth the read. I didn't get as confused with all the characters as you might think, and it reads really fast despite the length. No fantastical elements that I recall, just MERRRDERRR. The movie is good too!
This is a great idea! I would read paper menagerie because it's short stories and it feels like making way more progress when finishing a bunch of individual stories or intersperse the stories between bigger books to keep motivation up.
putting my fullmetal alchemist nostalgic bias aside, i always found manga and graphic novels the easiest way to get me out of a reading slump since it's all pictures but still an engaging story. i actually recently got myself out of a slump bc i found that i had the first 3 volumes of a series called The Case Study of Vanitas, and now im about a 3rd of the way through a fantasy book bc it helped me get into the mood again :D
I'm with you on Son Of The Storm, I've had it forever and bought the sequel lol. Winnowing Flame... I finished the trilogy last year and The Bitter Twins was my favorite of the three. The Ninth Rain was okay, and I was slightly let down by The Poison Song, but still overall glad I read the whole thing, finally!
Mood reading is real. Tbr doesn’t mean right now this moment I'm reading it. Sometimes I read something then decide on two more. It really depends. I wish I had a bookshelf but I got no space. Might ignore the landlord and put up wall shelves. There was a few 700 page books that were good mostly but there nearly k*lled me. Exhausting. Maybe 21-35 chapters is more for me. Lol. 😅 I have been reading at least 2 books on my physical tbr per ARC read. I need balance.
I would recommend reading Paper Menagerie first and then I do think you need to read Grace of Kings before Wall of Storms. Knowing I liked Ken Liu’s writing from reading his short stories helped me keep reading Grace of Kings until I was invested in the story.
I'm currently reading Sun of the Storm! It's really good. Edit: I do remember that show, the one about the alien who could absorb knowledge from touching a book, but I didn't remember what it was called.
Crime and punishment was a fast read for me when it comes to classic and to be honest I have just gotten into brandon Sanderson and I have not read any of the secret projects either.
I also had a hard time finding a copy of Battle Royale, I got it like 5 years ago off thriftbooks, but I realized I was having a hard time cause I was searching the translator's name instead of the author.
My goal this year is to only buy books on a deep discount/second hand AND focus on reading more books than I buy. My goal for the year is 25 (currently in grad school so we'll see haha) and hopefully I don't buy that many 😅
2024 is truly the year where we all decided we're FED UP with our overflowing physical TBRs. Does this maybe have to do with the fact that we all bought a bunch of 2023 releases and they were just not very good?
Clearly you hate your job, as you should. I dont understand why you need a job.. isnt the south USA cheaper than Italy? Isnt the military paying Andrew decently? It just sucks to see you have to suffer through 💔
Here when it's still sehlves 🤘❤
The slo mo of the book flop 😂😂
The way you flopped that book lol 😂
You know what they say - READING: Because murder is WRONG! 😄
JESS I REMEMBER THAT TV SHOW I have fantasized about doing to a book FOR TWENTY YEARS
Yes!!! I reference wanting that reading power all the time!
Tress is so fun! And I'd only read some of the Mistborn books when I read it, so enjoyment doesn't depend on lots of Cosmere familiarity.
I laughed out loud so many times for this video! Especially comments about Battle Royale 😂
Girl! My name is LeeAnna and you scared me so freaking bad!!🤣🤣🤣
LEEANNA!!! ARE YOU WATCHING?!
My goal this year is to try to stick reading the books I already own or borrow more from the library/Libby app. So I’ve been making it a practice each month to shop my shelves for my monthly TBR. The real struggle is to not to not go randomly book shopping 😅😅😅😂😂😂😂
I hand the same goal and am failing so bad🤣😅🤣😅🤣
The journey Allen Strange! That show and the Alex Mack show I watched all the time as a kid

Maybe Jess will make it a book club read, and we can all read it together?

Battle royale is so fast paced and amazing
Omg The Journey of Allen Strange! I REMEMBER THAT!

Thanks for the info! I really like Constance Garnett but i do want to read what more sincerely adheres to the author's actual words.
I finally did it!!! Every time you mention Boardwalk, I got to their website and poke around and inevitably find something but don’t buy. EXCEPT FOR TADAAY!!!! I just couldn’t help myself 😂
I do remember that show you referenced, classic Nickelodeon 😂
The Wolf is a bit slower paced, but it is worth it, I gave it 5 stars!
Battle Royal is so good and reads super fast. Hope you like it. And Tress is so cozy and ridiculously amazing.
If you need motivation to start Paper Menagerie, the Levar Burton Reads episode is a lovely audio version of the title story
You unlocked a core memory with The Journey of Allen Strange reference! I think you should read Paper Menagerie first (and this from someone who really didn't like Grace of Kings)
The show you're remembering was The Journey of Allen Strange. My cousin's best friend played the dad, I loved that show as a kid! :)

Girl, I love your videos, always a great time
This is a great idea!

I need to do this! You actually just reminded me that I too have a copy of Battle Royale somewhere...

You'll read The Bitter Twins...and by you I mean me, cause I've been meaning to get to it for months!
omg i was just thinking of rereading Fullmetal Alchemist this year! i haven’t read it since like… middle school 😂
I would recommend reading Paper Menagerie first and then I do think you need to read Grace of Kings before Wall of Storms. Knowing I liked Ken Liu’s writing from reading his short stories helped me keep reading Grace of Kings until I was invested in the story.
Fullmetal Alchemist is so good!
Which one will you read first? None of them 😂
But let me mind my business. I cackled when you said "not the smallest, but interesting.... print."
Thank you for the video
I'm currently reading Sun of the Storm! It's really good.

I love this idea of shopping your shelves, especially with the Global strike going on!

God, I need to read Battle Royale, but there are sooooo many charecteres that I just think "not now" 😂 But I have to, I want to.
I saw battle royale the movie it was good. I don't remember fantastical elements
✨🦄✨
Please say "Gulag." Please say "Gulag."
Do you have asthma?
