andie monroe Same here. I remember thinking this was Kenny Loggins when I heard it on the radio, then I saw the video. He cut 2 great early CDs. Had a crush on the Asian woman in this video.
I went to Pali High with Rob BITD. We used to jam together with some of our high school buddies. We all knew that he was going to be hugely successful. When it came to music, he was on a different plane, miles beyond everybody else. But what you may not know about Rob is that he was and is a monster guitarist!!!!!!! I’m not exaggerating! Even in high school he could hear something once and play it perfectly and beautifully. And not just one style: (early) Genesis, Hendrix, Steve Howe (Yes), Joe Pass, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Al Dimeola. His skills were off the charts. And he also had his own style of play. He had a 4-piece band (bass, drums, guitar and flute). They played at parties. All-original, instrumental Nevil compositions. We didn’t dance or party. We all stood in befuddled silence and gazed in disbelief with our slacked jaws literally hanging open. To use the terminology of the time, we were “blown away”. I remember other stories about Rob, but maybe for another day. I will end my nostalgic rant by saying that Rob (that’s what we called him) was, and is, one of the kindest, friendliest, engaging people you’ll ever meet. Crazy sense of humor too! ~ TFYT
@@billyjacc Thanks for your kind comments. That was a great song. We grew up in West Los Angeles and we still live in LA. For decades Rob has been a very successful songwriter/producer. Still cracks me up. I was in the music biz too. Back in the very early 80s I was in a band that played all over CA and was deep in the LA club scene. We were billed with all the punk/new wave bands of the day. Later on I played with county-blues singer Candy Kane. Lastly, I recorded my own project on Elektra Records. When they didn’t exercise my option I called it a day. Lot of fun and priceless memories. Cheers
@mickeykessler4721, awesome story! Always imagined him to be what you described. Been a fan of his since his debut album. Most don't realize he's behind so many songs from popular TV shows. Would love to hear move.
I remember this when I was s kid in elementary school.. heard it on old school jams and it brought me here. My wife looked at me like I was crazy when I knew the lyrics and starting singing this... lol.. never knew who the artist was till now... damn , I miss the 80”s and 90’s... life was way easier and simpler...
Streatham Soprano he probably knew fame was fleeting and the cost would be too high to maintain it. Many musicians felt that way, yet many others chased it to no end.
Indeed, a testament to the extreme difficulty of staying power in the fickle, precarious music industry. One of the most frustrating parts of being an artist is understanding that timing really is everything. No matter how much talent, charisma, tenacity, good looks, or whatever other ingredient you may think is important, timing is the one thing that trumps everything. Market niche or the need for what an artist is making will dictate how much attention people give to the music being made.
hotmama love ... not true at all. Nevil's next single, "Dominoes," hit #14, and the third single, "Wot's It to Ya," hit #10! Nevil is NO one-hit wonder!
Todd Gack hmmm..... I can't find her credit for that. Is the percussionist that appeared with Robbie Nevil when performed it live or was the percusionist just a lip synching percusionist? Thanks for pointing that out anyway Todd.
Lip-syncing! Robbie Nevil mentioned in an interview that it wasn't Brie that was singing background vocals. He wanted her in the video because she had a lot of attitude and he liked that.
In my high school graduating class of 1990, they made a collage video of the school year using this song. Never imagined 32 years later I would be listening to it and watching video on my I phone!

+Courtney Gibson I never liked the 80s when I was living it (as a teenager), but I sure do miss it compared to the drones and sheeple I'm surrounded with these days :(
I'd forgotten how amazing this song is. What an amazing voice! Robbie Nevil was born with one hell of a soul bone buried deep in his brain; I remember thinking at the time that this was the best funk/soul I'd heard in YEARS, and the video captured the trashy Sideshow Vintage that was everywhere. And he's probably the only musician to ever use a Tilt-A-Whirl as a percussion instrument. Classic Depression-Era,Long Beach Oil-Well Kitch! Timelessly delicious! And brilliantly written.
I remember this track back in the mid eighties. It was a top ten hit at the time which should've been a number one hit by Robbie Nevil. A smooth sultry jazzy type of R&B feel to hit that hit airwaves not only on video music, but in the R&B radio airplay too. You don't find music like that in our era.
+Chris Lacy Well, not trying to start an argument here but...."C'est La Vie" hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. He had two other songs from this album that made it into the top 15. On the other hand, the song, "In The Year 2525" from Zager & Evans hit the #1 spot in the UK and was #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks in 1969. The duo never again had a song chart in the UK or on the Hot 100. Zager & Evans is the only musical act to have such great success and abject failure.
Absolutely love this song!!!! It was playing when I was at the Gladstone Harbour Festival 1986 riding the Sizzler at just 13 years old. Such a carefree time. Life was simple back then.
This brings nightlife memory. Back when people smoked cigarrettes indoors, two story pub pool tables, beer an old tv with this video on, loudspeakers in all corners. Stereo sound good bass and voices. I stopped my shot to look up at the tv... take it all in

Literally one of the best songs ever made, because whoever you are, no matter how high or how low, life will bite you in the ass, and this song will be the most fucking perfect song in that moment.
Absolutely, played this song in the shower after being fired 😂 felt gooood
What a lovely song! Forgot how much I liked it ❤
Most underrated song of the '80s!!!!
Great vocal & mood.
One of my childhood favorites! Still sounds good in 2024!!!
Yup! This song sticks with you.
1986!!! My highschool days, I was 16 and I enjoyed MTV.
I'm with you !
Yes!! I don't think the 80s would have been the same without MTV honestly!
You and I both
Same here good memories ❤
Listening January 22, 2020. I miss this type of music. I grew up in the best decade watching music videos on MTV early 80’s 🤟🏻🎶
Amen amen rock on
I’m back listening and watching this cool 80’s tune 🖤🤟🏻🎶
andie monroe Same here. I remember thinking this was Kenny Loggins when I heard it on the radio, then I saw the video. He cut 2 great early CDs. Had a crush on the Asian woman in this video.
@@seanswinton6242 Never thought about it, but you're right, he _does_ sound like Kenny Loggins.
When you hear a song the video comes up to that song
C'est la Vie... Oh oui Robbie❤
80's were definately the best decade to grow up in! Still listening in 2021!!
This song fitted right into those "work hard play hard" late 80s!
So true. I miss the 80s.
~ TFYT
Great story. Thanks for sharing 😉👍
We really liked this song in Philly. Where are you guys from?
57 yo professional musician. Love the greats of many decades. This is my favorite song!
close is donna lee - charlie parker
I remember this when I was s kid in elementary school.. heard it on old school jams and it brought me here. My wife looked at me like I was crazy when I knew the lyrics and starting singing this... lol.. never knew who the artist was till now... damn , I miss the 80”s and 90’s... life was way easier and simpler...
Antony Jackson in 1986 i was 7 and remember this song so well....
like ones say--things can only get better, RIGHT! Tell me when. L.O.L!
Antony Jackson I lived my teenage years in the ‘90s, miss that decade, now, ‘80s’ music is my absolute favorite 🥰
@@lilienlambare I was born in the 70's, 80's music just had a resonant beat in my perception.
Let's not the 60s as well.
This was the blue eyed soul movement of the 80's.
This dude had everything going for him - why wasn't he an even bigger star?
Streatham Soprano he probably knew fame was fleeting and the cost would be too high to maintain it. Many musicians felt that way, yet many others chased it to no end.
Indeed, a testament to the extreme difficulty of staying power in the fickle, precarious music industry.
One of the most frustrating parts of being an artist is understanding that timing really is everything. No matter how much talent, charisma, tenacity, good looks, or whatever other ingredient you may think is important, timing is the one thing that trumps everything. Market niche or the need for what an artist is making will dictate how much attention people give to the music being made.
He had a couple of others- 'wots it 2 ya?' Is great also
And "Dominoes"
hotmama love ... not true at all. Nevil's next single, "Dominoes," hit #14, and the third single, "Wot's It to Ya," hit #10! Nevil is NO one-hit wonder!
I'm proud that my music taste brought me here with all my own
Robbie Nevil's Background Singer could Sing those notes "C'est LA VIE!!"
+Joseph Dungee Carol Kenyon
Todd Gack hmmm..... I can't find her credit for that. Is the percussionist that appeared with Robbie Nevil when performed it live or was the percusionist just a lip synching percusionist? Thanks for pointing that out anyway Todd.
Lip-syncing! Robbie Nevil mentioned in an interview that it wasn't Brie that was singing background vocals. He wanted her in the video because she had a lot of attitude and he liked that.
Tarotscope by Tina
Thanks Tina!
I have also heard that it was Stevie Lange on Backing vocals , the ad lib certainly sounds like her
If this isn't 80's nostalgia then I really dont know what is!!!??? Glad to have grown up during this time. 80s,90s will always be the best! 70s too!!!
Thank you SNOWFALL!!!!!!!!!
That’s what brought me back here… forgot how much I loved this song 😅
In my high school graduating class of 1990, they made a collage video of the school year using this song. Never imagined 32 years later I would be listening to it and watching video on my I phone!
Before Robin Thicke there was Robbie Nevil...miss the 80's. I had to be all of 10 yrs old when this came out...still love it.
It's 2023 and I just discovered this awesome 80s song. Man, the 80s was a fantastic decade. Anyone else here who is in 2023 and found this song to be awesome??????
1:27 Welcome to the time when music was good enough to stay on repeat until you got back up from whatever had just knocked you down and realized you could dance your way thru whatever!!!❤❤❤
This song is such a banger, even in 2023.
Exactly 💯
This was my favourite song 1987. I used to ask the DJ to play this song at the discoteque!
I miss music like this. Gosh I love the #80s
+Courtney Gibson I never liked the 80s when I was living it (as a teenager), but I sure do miss it compared to the drones and sheeple I'm surrounded with these days :(
I was only a little boy at that time. I sure do miss it.i miss all the cartoons, toys, and music.
+Courtney Gibson Me too dude!! My adolecense :)
oh hell yeah!!!!!!
Courtney Gibson Jr You and me both.
THAT'S where those oil well pumps are from! That or Wilmington CA! Used to live there, I thought they looked familiar! :)
We took this era for granted & assumed we were automatically entitled to dope music 😢
2023 and still get goosebumps hearing this song 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Exactly
Mee Toooo. Bestest Vibes and it didn't matter if U were Un Co bcos no one cared. We just cared 4 Dancing and Music🎉🥳
FACTS
Factz
I just discovered this song yesterday and I love it! I was born in 77...don’t know how this slipped past me.
He has an insane voice!!! His high notes are gorgeous!
vamos começar auqi
I remember this track back in the mid eighties. It was a top ten hit at the time which should've been a number one hit by Robbie Nevil. A smooth sultry jazzy type of R&B feel to hit that hit airwaves not only on video music, but in the R&B radio airplay too. You don't find music like that in our era.
Oh, how SOOOO TRUE!!!!!!
When *music* deserved the name *MUSIC*
Man, 1986 sure had some great music like this! Now it’s gone. C’est la vie...
Good one!
So glad no one tried to remake this. One of a kind classic. And whether in a Walmart, or a Jewel, I cannot help myself to not sing along.
Arguably the greatest one-hit wonder in music history.
Agreed!
+Chris Lacy At least in the top 5.
+videocomet True, Zager and Evans were the benchmark of a Billboard Hot 100 one-hit wonder!
+Chris Lacy No, it's Sweet Harmony by Beloved. Arguably, of course.
I was 16 when this song came out & I loved it!🎶 I still have a notebook from high school that has the words "C'est La Vie" written on the cover!🎵😊
They played it on Snowfall and I flipped it’s been in my head since , we 💃 our little hearts out when this came out❤
Same 😂
Watching Snowfall now season 6 and heard it, which caused me to look up the song and see your comment. 😂
Absolutely love this song!!!! It was playing when I was at the Gladstone Harbour Festival 1986 riding the Sizzler at just 13 years old. Such a carefree time. Life was simple back then.
Life was really simple
How are you doing today?
I miss the 80s. Worked at a radio station for 3 years then. Best time of my life! Everything about the 80s rocked!!
This brings nightlife memory. Back when people smoked cigarrettes indoors, two story pub pool tables, beer an old tv with this video on, loudspeakers in all corners. Stereo sound good bass and voices. I stopped my shot to look up at the tv... take it all in
Yes!!
This Song Went To Number 2 On The Billboard Hot 100 Chart In 1987.
I was 20 yrs old then 😆😂 awesome song!
@@danajones731 . I was 8 years old in the 1st grade in elementary school when the song came on the radio! I still got the 12" album of Cest La Vie by Robbie Nevil! ☺
As was I! Loved this song, still do
When I was a kid I had this on repeat. To this day, this song still makes me so happy. Me and my mom used to sing it together, now me and my daughter sing it together lol
Without a doubt one of the most important tunes of my late teens. Early 1987 on a stick. Totally fantastic tune, one of the best from this year.
80's baby here. At a time when it gets a little hard to smile, then this pops up as a suggestion! Cant stop smiling now!
One of those magically affectionate classic 80s jam that once you hear today ..you'll be singing it all day long..from 1986 to the year 2022 C'est La Vie is a jam that still kicks ass #LONGLIVETHE80s
I LOVED THIS SONG WHEN IT CAME OUT AND I STILL LOVE IT NOW!
+mspixiedust100 Me, too! The songs nowdays stink.
Me too
Same Here
I'm so glad my dad played the music he listened to when growing up when I was little. Gee, it makes me sad that I never experienced this decade.
+Michelle Peralta You missed a good one, but you have youtube.
+Michelle Peralta don't be!!!! it was terrible! LOL, like really
***** Haha, well, every decade has its ups and downs!
i'm 15 and i'm so 80's trash i think it's unhealthy 😀
classic … I almost forgot about this song but as soon as I heard it .. I instantly remembered…. and the video still looks good as well.. it’s crazy to think that this came out around 86 ….. time flies
I met him at a festival performance in Fairfax, VA in the 80's. I was in the 5th grade. Debbie Gibson was also performing. Day to remember for sure!
That was the WHFS festival @ Lake Fairfax! Her fist live performance...
For some reason this song takes me back to the glory days of 1986....
I stumbled across this song years ago. I never forgot it. I loved it and couldnt stop playing. Song is still fire
The visual beauty and great music make it hard to believe that this is a music video from 1986. Even if it were said that this music video was made in 2023, I would believe it without any hesitation.
Robbie Nevil - C'est La Vie :Tanto tiempo ha pasado y este tema sigue siendo una obra de arte musical.
I always loved this song. I really never realized how awesome his voice is!
I bought the single in 1986, played it on my record player on repeat until my mum begged me to play something else 😂
I have the album. Lol!
HA HA HA.. I LOVED PLAYING THIS 45 SINGLE TOO
So did i..lol
The 7””Single has wots it to ya on the B side I think???🤔🤔🤔🤔
Play on play on
Often overlooked jam from the late 80s! Great stuff!
Peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. Such a great song.
The 80”s was the truth and real singers and music
