Snowblower friction wheel drive explained and how to maintain

My 1990s snowblower was having difficulties shifting gears. I took advantage to teach the kids how a simple drive worked. I also cleaned and lubricated the mechanisms to resolve the issue.

What did you use to lubricate the shaft?

On the shaft you want a thin non-drying lubricant, preferably water resistant. I use either a silicon spray or a lithium spray. But first make sure to clean it really well with alcohol or acetone.

Hi why when I put the engage, in my snow blower John Deere 826 is cut off the engine right away ????

@@labasuradel0813 If the engine stops that means your friction wheel is seized. Try turning it with your hands and see if it turns or it's stuck (unplug machine spark before doing any work). The wheels should turn with little effort otherwise too much load on engine which ends up stopping.
