Basically, you have to find in advance what is the problematic frequency on a guitar recorded with a mic which was too centered in front of the cab cone. Then you set up the deesser on a very low threshold,and place it as second plugin after your eq. When you raise a bunch of frequencies on your eq, your deesser will start to work and keep down those nasty frequencies. Just be carful with the settings or else the deesser will carve your sound.
In addition to that he says it is better to offset the mic when recording, aiming at the edge of the cone. Sound will result a bit darker but it will be easier to eq.
