i just saw it a second time today, and the people walking in right when it started while it was super dark in space had to use their phone light to see so i understand what you went through lol
Walked out at the second climax. Stopped myself from walking out 3x previously throughout the film. Will never forgive what they did to Ian Holm; and no one can convince me that the film wasn't written by an AI during the writer's strike, and that Ridley Scott doesn't hate his fans. And lastly, when the motivations of Weyland Yutani's were revealed to be using the black goo to make people tougher so they could work longer shifts at space McDonald's, my eyes almost rolled out of their sockets.
Last hour of this movie is nothing but endless references, memberberries and nostalgia slop. It's like Disney executive board made a checklist and then movie was done around that list. It's a shame because first 45 minutes were pretty solid. But it's just nostalgia baiting garbage at the end. Just like Force Awakens repurposes the New Hope, this movie is like a recyclement center cobbled together all previous Alien movies. It's probably enough to get enough positive synapses from people who are OK with having the same old slop but in a few years it won't be remembered kindly. So yeah I guess that's enough for a "summer horror movie", sorry I expected an actual new, fresh Alien movie. This wasn't it.
*I though Romulus was great. The whole Ash thing was cool and stupid at the same time. Cool throwback, but looked absolutely terrible and ridiculous. And it sucks cause everything else looked so great. What I never understand with these movies is all the deleted scenes that are so essential, and explain so much. Like all the deleted scenes from Covenant of David literally explaining everything that happened between him and Shaw. And the deleted scene of them walking through the courtyard and they shoot flares in the opening in the ground to where you can see multiple Engineer ships. Showing that David could have left the Planet at anytime, but was intentionally waiting for them. And when the Engineer speaks in Prometheus and once again, literally explains everything before attacking them. They can't be expecting that many people to get the blu-rays to see these extra scenes. In most cases, these deleted scenes answer all or most of the unanswered questions. It's so stupid. And why can't Ridley just continue on with David's story already? I'd love too see that, and see David end up injecting himself with a form of the black goo, and in-tern, transform into the first true bio-mechanical Xenomorph. That would be fn awesome*
I watched it yesterday and I have to say I liked it. Even though I was annoyed by the same things like Ash being there and all the throwback and fanservice stuff, I thought it was much better than Convenant which was so frustrating on so many levels. The characters had believable motivations and act believably almost all of the time, the set, costume and creature design was great. I thought all the time that it was a soft remake of Alien Resurrection and being a lot better than it. But because of your channel I got the omnibuses and I really wish for a Alien Labyrinth movie. For god sake, the black mold killing the hive in the story could be linked to the black goo, so that even the Promethean crowd would be satisfied. And I really love the first movie genuinely and not pretentiously. There are people like that.
I agree with your brother that average movie screens are worse than my tv screen. Also how blurring and compositing makes real things look fake and CG. And I can’t understand a lot without subtitles either. So unless I watch it in the best theater it feels like a waste of money and I would’ve been better off watching it at home.
They harvested the Facehuggers from the surviving Alien from the original film, to harvest Plagarius Praepotens from them. (That term in Romulus originates from Cold Forge.)
That's fine. I read that book and really liked it, but I don't remember the harvesting or anything like that. Just an android that protected her? It's been a while. Aliens Phalanx is weirdly the one that has stuck with me the most.
You do not remember Blue using the android to basically force the Facehugger to... uh, expell, the fluid into the synthetic body? I will never forget that.

I thought the exact same thing about the brightness/ darkness thing in the theatre. I had a very hard time seeing what was going on in the dark scenes especially the first few minutes when they brought the asteroid thing into the ship
For the Derelict ship in the first movie. Isn't it safe to assume the Queen is the same Queen in Aliens? Like they find the derelict ship in Aliens and thats how the colony gets an outbreak. Ripley finds the Queen in Aliens it's probably the same Queen right? It all comes from the same place...I think 🤔

That would make the most sense, especially if we take Ryan's idea that Engineers and Space Jockeys are different species. A Space Jockey would definitely birth a big xeno likely to be a queen.
@@AlphaRookie I'm not as learned in Alien lore as you guys. For example the Pink Elephant sounds vaguely familiar but I really don't know anything about it. But in the event of the colony not having a queen don't they feed a chestburster royal jelly to turn it into a Queen like with bees? I'm not sure it would matter if the Queen came from the Space Jockey or not. I do want to say though I really like the idea that the Space Jockey is not the same as the Engineer because the inconsistencies are too great and I really really can't stand Prometheus or Covenant but I do appreciate that writers are trying to make lemonade out of those lemons.
The Offspring does not need Engineer DNA to look like that though, the whole crux of the plot, concerns turning Plagarius Praepotens into Compound Z-01 for... "human enhancement" for survival in exploring space itself. Our DNA and the Engineers are the same, it simply implies this might be why they look as they do, the Engineers are us but combined with the Alien itself.
Anyway I thought it is pretty alright overall, does not touch the first three, serviceable and decent with no glaring flaws unlike the prequels but not as interesting as the prequels either.
I couldn't remember a damn thing about that movie this many years later. All I know is we stood around a messy kitchen with a sink full of dirty dishes til the middle of the night talking until we woke up our roommate cause we were too loud.
