    You're so right about the low maintenance. EV's will have far fewer issues and much lower cost-to-own over their lifetime. All anyone need do to see that is just look under the hood. These 3-phase inductively coupled electric motors have essentially one moving part. None of the hundreds of points of wear-n-tear or points of failure that Gas vehicles have. No serpentine belts or associated pumps, pulleys, bushings or bearings. No alternator, mechanical water pump or high temperature, high pressure engine cooling system. No spark plugs, coil packs, or ignition control modules. No fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulators, fuel pumps, or fuel injection control modules. No timing chains or timing gears to replace. No camshafts, valves, tappets, lifters, rocker arms or push rods. No pistons, wrist pins, connecting rods, or pressure lubricated bearings. No valve guides or piston rings to wear out and cause oil burning. No pan gasket, valve cover gaskets or rear oil seals that will eventually leak and require replacement. EV's don't need transmissions or power steering pumps so no hydraulic fluids, and no oil filters or oil changes. Because of regen an EV’s brakes will last three to four times as long so no expensive brake jobs every 40k miles. No O2 sensors, no PCV valves and none of the extreme heat and vibration that prematurely degrades nearly everything under the hood (hoses, belts, wiring, sensors, gaskets, seals, electronics modules, etc...). No exhaust pipes, mufflers, or catalytic converters. No emissions testing. Improved EV batteries are lasting over 1500 charge cycles. EV's with 300 miles of range lasting 1500 charge cycles (that's 1500 charges x 300 miles per charge), will outlive most ICE vehicles and with FAR less maintenance, repair and fuel costs. An ICE vehicle that gets 30 mpg will need 12,000 gallons of gas to reach the same lifetime in miles as an EV (at $3.5/gallon that's over $40,000 for fuel alone not to mention oil changes, more frequent brake jobs and other routine maintenance).

    I have a 2019 Leaf SL Plus. I have driven it for over 3 years with 30,000 miles + on it. As of this date the only maintenance I have had to perform is tire rotation/balance. My 62KW battery capacity indicator still shows 100% battery capacity as of this date. This vehicle has exceeded my expectations and I will never buy another gasoline powered vehicle.

    My 2015 Leaf costs me a dollar to go 55 miles. my Outback gets 33mpg ... since we have gas at $3 that's $5 of fuel per day --- for a fuel savings of about $4 per day or $80 per month.
    and no oil changes of about $30 per 3000 miles, about 4x per year. 0 to 30mph this car is a ROCKET!.... Range anxiety is real, I have only run out one time when it was cold, Nissan gave me a free tow home.

    miles on a full charge, never had any issues with it (except it took me a solid 5 minutes to work out how to put in drive) It was a nice upgrade from my old diesel VW Golf from 2007.

    Nice thanks for the update! The battery health is very good for the age and mileage. Around 100,000 miles you may need some front end maintenance and your first brake pad change like I did for my leaf. The re-gen braking really helps extend the life of the brakes. EVs are so much more efficient that even tho the electricity is sourced the same as gas combustion (which increasingly is not as frequent depending how well you region is transitioning to renewables) your EV will still use at least 85% of that power. Compared to ICE which at the very best in a new combustion engine is only 30% and the older the vehicle is the worse the efficiency becomes as most older cars only eek out 17% if that. Of course the ginormous truck and SUV trends mean that people are buying using much more energy just to run their cars.
    But yes buying and repairing new of either type vehicle is up there.

    You lost the one bar because of 100 percent charging.
    There is a protocol you can try lightly to see if it will come back.
    First charge only to 80 percent.
    Catch the car just when it completes the 80 percent. Take it off eco mode and drive only in D.
    Ensure outside temp is at 40 degrees F.
    In the very beginning, do a full throttle for about 5 seconds.
    Then do regular driving and treat lightly constant speed for about 10 minutes.
    Don't allow the regen to work. Let the car slow down in neutral if possible.
    Come back home and put on level 1 charging until back to 80 percent.
    Look at leafspy and it will give you the exact state of health.
    If you see in crease in soh then this is working.
    I myself am doing this.
    The idea is fast discharges for a short burst but slow charges back to the original.
    Never charge to 100 percent.
    Very harmful.

    Gr8 video. A point to note, EV batteries weigh more than engines so similarly sized EV cars will be heavier than conventional gasoline counterparts. Good ranges are achieved by aerodynamics and regen.

    • @doggylover1958
      @doggylover1958 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also good range is achieved because electric motors are ususally between 88 % 92% efficient, the best gas motors are only 30% efficient. In other words 70% of the gasoline/diesel that you pay for is wasted.

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

If you plan on expanding your family, I would recommend that you find a nice2-3 br condo/townhome with a garage which will cost more than $100K depending on where you live with bigger cities charging double that. When your Leaf falls to ground and becomes fall foliage, by that I mean the battery dies, I would also recommend you get a new/used Toyota Pruis which come in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all electric models. They're quality vehicles that go on forever. I have a relative that has the hybrid version and has over 175k miles on it without a problem. I had a LEAF for 30,000 miles, here are a few things I learned along the way. Never leave the car sitting at 100% battery, schedule the charge so that it gets to 100% just before you leave. This will help with battery longevity. Once a month go to a 50kw Rapid Chademo charger and charge all the way to the top from about 10%, this helps the BMS learn the correct capacity so you don't lose more bars too early. Use the onboard scheduler to preheat the car in winter, I am pretty sure if you leave to heated seats on and steering wheel they get activated too (not sure it was a while ago!) . If you know you are not using the car for a while leave it around 50%, if you are not going far that day then schedule the overnight charge to stop at 80%.
    Use B mode when driving to save recoup energy from letting off the accelerator pedal.
    If you want to see the real picture inside your battery then get leafspy and an OBD2 bluetooth dongle.
    The oil in the transmission should be replaced if swarf gets into the gears then it is game over, it is a tiny amount of oil so don't skimp.
    The brakes need to be stripped and cleaned / greased as they don't get much use, depends on if they use salt on your roads but every 2 years is a good bet.
    Brake Fluid.. In the UK we just get the fluid tested for water contamination and they replace it as needed but mine wasn't done in the 3 years I owned it and it always passed the test at service time.
    Overall I liked my time with the LEAF but I like the extra range in my BMW i3. Loved the updates from you and watched all the previous ones best of luck with everything.

      Absolutely 💯 and extended warranty. The problem Nissan's extended warranty doesn't extend past 8 years 80k ml vs Toyota is 10 years 100k and Nissan cost more than a thousand more.
      I compare a Nissan Leaf with Toyota corolla hybrid. Ofcourse it is not accurate comparison at all but would give you some idea. Both are manufacturers warranty. Ofcourse the price is heavily depends on your negotiation and location too...

    I have a leaf 24 myself and my advice is not charge it up to 100% every day, it may increase battery degradation - since u have more or less the same driving cycle every day, charging it every second or third day shold do it...

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as I get more comfortable with the range I try not to charge daily- it is easier to do that in the summer when the battery is happy- in the winter I tend to charge more often because the range goes lower in the cold, but charging less does seem to help the battery life 👍

    What the Dickens is a tiny house? Is it something about the size of the building itself or is it something else? I’m an Englishman, living in a small town close to Greater London.

      the exact definition of a "Tiny House" is up for debate...but we live in a Tiny House on Wheels (built on an industrial trailer so it can be moved) that is 8x24 feet...the size of the closet in some american homes 😂

    I have always loved electric vehicles even back when I was in high school but EV’s are nothing new they have been around since 1890 but I’m not sure if I agree electric vehicles have or use emissions because you could say that about everything else that’s plugged into the grid like cell phones, refrigerator, washing machines, drying machines and every electrical thing inside your entire house would have emissions, so Nissan called the Nissan Leaf zero emissions for no reason lol

    Wonder what the battery cost you? Used ones have bad reviews as they replace the bad cells and then sell it to you when the other cells are about to go bad.

    Age kills suspension parts like shocks every bit as much as miles. The rubber seals degrade. The same with the front end and the rest of the suspension. This is a "gotcha" of low mile cars. Time alone does a lot of damage to very expensive parts of your car.

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that is a really good point! I always think of milage being the main factor but the car is sitting out in the weather all year round and that puts some wear on it + general aging - not even a car can avoid it! 👍

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LetNewAdventuresBegin Another way to help your battery is to use the charge scheduler in the car. Try to start charging as late as possible in the evening so charging will be complete when you want to leave...thus minimizing the time the battery SoC is @100%. It does require you to do some calculations though...

    Did you have any reason to believe your rear shocks were bad? (any reason other than a dealer or mechanic telling you that). These early Leafs will go a lot further than 50k miles without needing shocks. It's not unheard of but these cars are notoriously maintenance free. Something sounds fishy.
