- We visit the Particular Baptist Chapel & EX sunday school on Rochdale Road was built in 1907. It was designed by the architectural practice of J. Willis & Son and it was the third church on the site. Pevsner says that the interior features an immersion tank and furnishings salvaged from the earlier churches.

I know the guardian's of this building, Peter and Sylvia, they gave us pretty much this same tour when it was still fully run as a Strict Baptist Chapel. I believe the rack you asked about is for umbrellas, the trough is to contain the water. It's a fascinating building and very sad there is no longer a congregation to adequately maintain it. The portrait is of William Gadsby a famous hymn writer who was pastor at the previous Rochdale Road chapel on the same site from 1805.

Hello Johnny how's things going been a while but today I went past the church and it door was open I went inside and there's two blokes stripping the place they said Peter has sold it can you let me know please so I can find out if broken in if so got them on camera please let me know soon as possible please

Lovely to see inside this old building again. This was my grandparents place of worship, I remember going to chapel here with my grandmother. My parents were married here also. Made my feel very sad to see it in such a dilapidated condition, it was a beautiful building. Thank you for the memories. ❤️
Insitu Manchester (a salvage firm) did a page about this which they were expecting to salvage. Their page appears to have been done in March-April 2023.
Good video. I preached here once a year from 2009 to 2012. Very high pulpit which makes you dizzy when you look down from the top. They have a congregation of about 20 people but the chapel seats 3,000. It was full in 1900. Sad to see the decline in chapel worship in that time.

Considering that when Gadsby died the city lined the streets for his funeral procession to see what's happened here is sad. It's all too common though for gospel standard strict baptist chapels. Chapels belonging to the GS have been closing at the rate of 2 per year for around 45 years.

Yes I spoke to Peter once again and I asked him this question for you the answer is yes it's for sale but with a reduced price for a church if a church doesn't buy it it's full price if you are interested you'll have to visit on Sunday morning I hope this helped you out🙂👍
