How the Highstreet has changed in the 40 years up to 2022.
In 1982 I was very concerned about the number of old buildings disappearing in the town so I photographed Orpington high street to create a record
I have gone back at regular intervals ever since to photograph and in 2022 video
So what has changed between 1982 and 2022? How many of these old shops do you remember?
In this video we are getting into the older part of the Highstreet and enter the conservation area.
In this section we are looking from just next to the Walnuts and the Old Village Causeway building down to the roundabout at the bottom of church hill

A fantastic trip down memory lane. I lived near the top of Broomhill Road from 1982 to 2012. Spent far too much time in the bar at The Cricketers next door to the Common. :>) A few yards to the left of Lingfield's in Broomhill Road is the Old Forge Garage where I had my cars serviced and MOT'd. It's still there today. My son still resides in Orpington so I have seen most of the changes that have taken place over the ensuing decade.

@10:20 - You can see the computer leisure centre - at 12 years old (1994) I used to work there and get free play on their arcades and play all the newest games. John, the owner, was such a lovely guy. Man this brings back memories.
