How about this idea?? Get an RV and travel the country full time. Do it for a year and then decide! So many are doing this option now especially if you can work from anywhere with internet!
My family and I are moved to NC from NJ and we love it here, only things we miss are snow, Wawa, and the food nothing like a good cheesesteak and a big slice of pizza at the shore.
Stay in Asheville and travel. As far as a home location in my opinion, I don't think you can beat it. Plus NC is such a beautiful state near so many other beautiful states- the options are endless. My vote is to stay and drive/fly out for diversity.
@@KurtandSara Reply 1 of 2 Why not consider Canada!? There are cities and towns in Canada that historically enjoy warmer winters than Asheville - as defined by a warmer average winter temperature (December, January, and February). If you dig a little bit deeper, you'll discover the source for the information (below) is NOAA (a US government agency!). So please copy/paste the following google searches (specifically Google’s search engine!). And don't forget to factor in the ultra-mild Canadian winter nights.
1. Asheville, North Carolina average winter temperatures 2. Race Rocks, Canada average winter temperatures Are you surprised by the fact the winters are warmer in Race Rocks, Canada than Asheville, NC?
@@KurtandSara Reply 2 of 2 Victoria, Canada is a city that's only 10 miles from Race Rocks. It is extremely tourist-like AND extremely outdoor lifestyle. It enjoys year-round golf in its valleys (and year-round skiing in the mountains!), with more hiking trails than you can disturb in a lifetime! Its winters are - of course - also very mild. Only slightly cooler than Race Rocks! And it is arguably the most beautiful nature on the planet! Also - I remember hearing it has more restaurants - per capita - than anywhere in North America (perhaps the world?).
Travel and experience the country while you are young and you can! Then when you want to settle down, you know which spot you want to go back to. Have fun Good luck
Thanks so much, Gretchen, that sounds like really good advice! We just got back from Florida and really loved it. In fact we are releasing a new video this Thursday about it if you're interested? Thanks again for the great comment and have a great day!
You’re young, Asheville will always be here, I think the way y’all are, you don’t need to settle in just yet. Explore! The west is such a different vibe, it should be immersed properly, and y’all would explore it well 😊
No Paula, we haven't been to any of those places yet, do you visit them a lot? Maybe we'll make a trip to the coast soon and check them out! Thanks for watching our video and commenting, we really appreciate it!
I live in the Bay area and have community all over the West Coast and pretty much everyone I know out here is talking about leaving the West Coast asap due to the smoke and wildfires. Some of us are actually flying to Ashville soon to look into buying land together 😂
Hey Brain, if you're still interested we are posting a NEW Video this Thursday answering that very question! Its our first video in over and year and we'd love for you to check it out. We hope Seattle is treating you well and thanks for the nice comment!
We recently moved to St. Petersburg, FL and absolutely love it, but we've also decided that if we ever do move again, it will probably be to Asheville. We love the beaches here, but do miss the hills. Luckily Asheville is only a quick flight away! I'm sure you will make the best of it wherever you end up!
Thanks so much, guys!! Sounds like you've got the best of both worlds! we love the beach too and often think about moving to one. Asheville is great with lots to offer if you ever move here! Until then enjoy that Florida sunshine!!! thanks for commenting and take care.
Thanks, Frank, we LOVE Brevard! Always on the lookout for something to rent in that area. Thanks for watching and commenting, we really appreciate it! Take care
I moved to Asheville last year. I paid $500k for a 3 Bedroom single story home right outside the city limit. Property taxes are insane here.Since then my car has been broke into 3 times and the last time someone left a needle on my driver's seat. The Police said they are having trouble with the homeless doing heroin. Just keep that in mind.
What did you two decide to do? Colorado is beautiful but you’ll have weather issues, forrest fires and increased cost of living. Aside from flooding, Asheville has a nice climate and not a lot of natural disaster type issues. You’re also close to the ocean.
Hello, Amy, We are posting a NEW video this Thursday after a one year break about what we decided to do about moving. If you're still interested we'd love for you to watch! Thanks for the nice comment and advice. We've been through the Denver, Boulder area and really enjoyed it but haven't been there for any length of time. Thanks for letting us know about what its like there. Thanks and have a great day!!
I live in Colorado and can not wait to leave this over priced crazy laws place, it’s becoming like Cali. Boulder is one of the most over priced liberal places to be in. I would run as far as I can.
I'm moving to Asheville this summer and your video has made me feel so secure in my decision! I'm moving by myself, which is scary, but I think it's a great next step for me. Thank you for sharing and I'm excited to scroll through these comments looking for what your decision was
Thanks so much for your nice comment! Good luck with your move and we hope you like Asheville as much as we do. We are releasing a new video this Thursday talking about what we decided to do if you're still curious? Take care!
So a year later, what did you guys decide to do? My wife and I are looking to move to Ashville sometime next year. Everything we've researched about it so far seems pretty amazing, and your video really shows a lot of beautiful nature!
Thanks for watching! Yeah, the Asheville area is a great place in so many ways. We stayed in the general area but moved further away from the city. Some of our recent videos show the new town we moved to, Hendersonville. Good luck with your move next year!!
I am in a similar situation of wanting to know what living is like in a totally different place. I have only lived in California and am currently living in the beautiful Monterey Bay area. Which really is perfect in every way except that it is crazy expensive here. I am looking at Asheville NC as my potential big change place to check out. I'm looking for a place that is artsy, full of nature, good weather (not too hot or cold) and has a diverse population - meaning not all white. I also wouldn't be comfortable seeing Confederate flags everywhere. Still trying to figure it out. The Southwest is beautiful and full of culture. You both are young and if you are able to move around and experience different places, that's the most perfect way to decide where your favorite place is- if you ever want to permanently settle down somewhere in your future! Washington State around the Puget Sound area is beautiful as well as Idaho around Boise area. Happy Trails!
Thank you very much for the nice comment. I would say that Asheville has a lot of what you are looking for (Nature, good weather and Artsy scene) but I would definitely visit the area and see for yourself. Like all places there are really great things about this area and some not so great also. However, we find the people to be very friendly and the nature is outstanding!! We would love to visit Washington and maybe move there one day it the cards are right. There are just so many places it can be hard to know where to start, lol. Good luck with your travels and we hope you enjoy your next adventure!
Lived in Utah, Vegas, San Francisco, and Denver. Moving to Asheville in 3/21! Personally I found the West to lack the "home" feeling and is why I'm moving to Asheveille.
Well, we certainly hope you are enjoying Asheville so far? We've been through Denver and thought it looked nice but never to the other places you've lived. We just got back from Florida filming a video (Coming out this Thursday if you're interested) and really liked it there. The Gulf Coast is beautiful! Take care and thanks for the nice comment!
I'm also from NJ and Asheville is one of five places my considering moving to this summer when my lease is up. I was born and raised in NJ, but everything is too expensive here.
Yes, NJ is so expensive now. Good luck with your move, we hope it works out for you. What other places are you considering? We are always on the lookout for our next adventure. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Haha, you got that right, Dan! Costa Rica is our DREAM!! hopefully we will be there soon. If you're interested we're posting a new video this Thursday and would love for you to check it out! Thanks for the nice comment and have a good one!!
We just got back from filming a video in Florida that comes out this Thursday and thought it was really nice there too! We'd love for you to check it out if you're interested.
Thank you for informative videos. I'm vegan and I am Asheville curious. I have a question. Are there many cegarret smokers in downtown or hike trail in Asheville? I know no smoking in buildings but are they just standing right by the buildings and smoking ? I really do not like to have any second hand smoke. I'm not sure if you moved or stayed in Asheville, it has been difficult times around the world. I hope you guys are staying safe and healthy.
We're happy you like our videos! We do a lot of hiking and don't see many hikers smoking on the trails. In the city I'm sure you'll see people smoking, especially by the bars, but I wouldn't say that I see many people doing it. However, we don't go into the city much at night and things might be different then. Thanks for the nice comment and take care!
We love Florida!! In fact we are posting a NEW VIDEO this Thursday that you might like and we'd love for you to check it out!! We would love to move to Colorado but I hear you, it's pretty far from our family in NJ. Asheville is just a days ride maybe two from Florida so Asheville might work for you? Good luck with your decision and thanks for the nice comment!
Ty lovely folks for shareing the majestic beauty of Asheville! Grandma raised Dad in Asheville at her family’s impressive home there. My Great Grandfather was Montgomery Taft Legg the CFO in the United States Army for President Coolidge...interesting to note we are direct descendants of William Howard Taft 27th President of USA! Asheville is stunning with it’s diverse terrain.. we were able to locate my family’s home via a photograph of my Grandma’s from the 1940’s! Once 911 emergency services was implemented in Asheville, the house number changed. We were blessed to discover the home my father grew up in and only a few changes occurred over the years from its original grandeur! My parents eloped from Marcellus, NY and were married at the Episcopal Chapel nestled in downtown Asheville on a lovely knoll . 💗 I love Asheville! Have you checked out the Bohemian hotel? A terrific artsy hotel that boasts enchanting decor as one can imagine! It’s sister hotel is in St. Auggie, Fl haven’t stayed in that hotel yet however it’s on the”to do list”! Obtw... we resided in EB NJ!! & I’m a great fan of Asbury Park!! thrilled to see investors finally taking notice of that quirky cool sea shore town!!! Have you located Actress Andie MacDowells Abode yet in Asheville? Ty for the lovely footage of Asheville .... will be down for a visit to Asheville soon during relocation journey ... yet another New Yorker heading outta here in droves......
Wow, it sure sounds like you have a lot of family history in Asheville! We will have to check out The Bohemian hotel, it sounds so cool. We were just down in St Augustine last week filming a video that's coming out this Thursday! I wonder if we drove by the sister hotel?! Asbury Park is such a cool town, Sara's Uncle used to play in bands there back in the day! Thanks for your nice comment and good luck with your relocation!
Hey Kurt and Sara. I like Young at Heart's suggestion to get an RV. Spend 6 months to a year on a tour of the country and then decide. Before I retired to Italy I lived in 5 States and one other country. I have to admit that of all the places that I lived in the U.S, Northern, California was my favorite. You should definitely check out Healdsburg, Sonoma and Calistoga. If I had money I would probably have built a tiny home in Mill Valley among the Redwood Trees though.
Thanks for the advice, Indigo, how are you liking Italy? We would love to live there for awhile and eat pasta all day, lol. An RV sounds like a great idea and best way to see a lot of places. If you're interested, we are posting a new video this Thursday after not posting for a YEAR and would love for you to check it out! Thanks for the nice comment and, by the way, northern Cali is on my list of must sees for sure. Have a good one!
Asheville, so funky; so diverse; so conveniently located; wild, yet tame. Locals will say go; I will say STAY! Buying a house is a good investment in Buncombe County. I live in Black Mountain.
Haha, I hear ya about the locals. Its definitely a hot spot to move to! Black Mountain is really great and we are planning a video for it soon. Any cool recommendations? We just got back from Florida filming a new video that's coming out this Thursday if you're interested. Thanks for the nice comment and have a good one!
Hey there. Currently living about 15-20 mins outside of Denver in a town right up against the Rocky Mountains..Moved out here for the outdoors and hiking. The wife and I are currently considering Asheville. Would love to connect and maybe share some notes if you're interested :)
Hi Sid, thanks for watching our video! I'd definitely try to take a visit to Asheville before moving out here and see what you think of the place. If you're moving just for the nature and hiking you can't go wrong! There's so much to see and do. Good Luck!!
We are posting a NEW video this Thursday answering that question! Its our first video in over a year and would love for you to check it out!! Thanks for the comment and have a good one!
Stay where you are, rent a house, put the dog into doggie daycare and go to Europe for for two to three weeks for something “more different”. South of France, Italian or Portuguese countryside, all beautiful, all really different. It’s a big world out there...
You can use Trusted House Sitters instead of doggie daycare, it's basically free, and your pets get to stay in their own home. I am looking into petsitting for someone, but we have two small dogs ourselves that would need to come along... Anyway, an idea.
Prepare to spend five times as much if you move out west. I actually used to live in Asheville North Carolina and I live in the high Rockies now. I tell you I didn't expect homes and things like that to be four times more expensive. Median home cost here is about 450k+ for anything in a desirable area. However we have the beautiful Rockies and I love my 80 inches of annual snow. No humidity all summer long is nice too. If the high prices don't scare you off look into it. I warn you though anywhere desirable in the High Rockies the prices just keep going up and up and up as more people are moving out of California and moving here. I blame Instagram
Haha, thanks for the tip! We are originally from New Jersey so we know all about high prices. However, we moved out of NJ to escape those prices so we'll definitely take your comment into consideration when planning our next move! Thanks again!!
@@KurtandSara Believe It or Not Jersey is still cheaper than out west. The only place more expensive than outwest currently is San Francisco or Manhattan. Just keep that in mind depending on where you go. I mean there's a lot of areas in Montana and Colorado that makes San Francisco look cheap. Also if you live at a high elevation they have to pay all Truckers Hazard pay therefore gas prices go up by about 2 to $3 a gallon and stay that way all winter. Last winter I was paying $5.12 for regular. I just want you to know what you're getting yourself into. I'm telling you a lot of the things nobody ever talks about when living out west or thinks about when moving out west
I wouldn't blame Instagram on people moving from California, I would blame the Democrat run state that has destroyed everything in it from taxes to housing to wages to accepting homeless throughout each City in front of beautiful homes where my friend has to step over the tents to leave her front door it's the Democrat run states that are ruining America
@@gracealleman4102 I think you misunderstood what I was saying I blame Instagram for people wanting to move to the beautiful Rockies this influx of people moving to Rocky Mountian areas like Wyoming and Montana started shortly after the birth of Instagram when people started sharing pictures of the area. Before Instagram no one moved these areas. I mean the amount of people moving to these areas didn't just go up after the birth of Instagram they went up by about 1000-2000%.
I truly think you two should stay there again. I fell in love with Asheville but my husband & I had talks with each other about him working with his sisters husband on the road a lot & look into buying into a house quicker but as a single mom it was hard to not have him around anymore especially for our kids so we moved to my hometown Wilmington NC. Don't get me wrong I love my family & the beach but it doesn't feel the same without Asheville NC. Broke a lot of hearts when we left & miss all of them truly so me & my Husband decided to move back to Asheville in a few years & save up money to buy and own a home in Asheville. Asheville is a true definition of Unconditional love & so much support & programs. Music, Art, Organic, Hiking & Waterfall, Camping, Shopping for interesting things especially art & such beauty. I would definitely own a home & have a goal to experience other places around the world while having your own home. It would be awesome to experience you two buying a home in Asheville. Before if you decide to leave do this ask your close friends how it would make them feel if you left? I truly hope you stay.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, Christina. It sounds like you have real love for Asheville and I hope you make it back there some day. We've heard great things about Wilmington NC as well so hopefully you are still in a really great place. There is something about the Blue Ridge Mountain though, isn't there? Thanks again for such a nice comment and if you'd like we are posting our first video in over a year this Thursday! Maybe you'd like to watch and follow our adventures? Take care!
We're making the same kind of choice, but to move TO Asheville when our lease is up in Austin in November! I completely get the urge to experience new places. We spent 9 months last year traveling in a van up the West Coast into Canada, and back. It was pretty epic in the PNW. Your videos are fantastic. How could you leave a place with outhouse races? That cracked my wife and I up, and something we will be catching next year. :) Good luck! -Chris & Stacy
Hello, Chris, thanks for the great comment! We are so happy that you and your wife are enjoying our videos. We're having lots of fun making them and hope to get back out there soon! Good luck with your move to Asheville!! Its a cool place and I think you guys will really enjoy it here. That road trip you took up the coast sounds amazing. I'm pretty sure that when I finish writing this I'll be looking up van prices and planning a trip to the Pacific Northwest!! Any favorite spots you two would recommend we see? The Outhouse Races are AMAZING and you're right, it would be hard to move away from them. But I can't help thinking about all the other great events out there that I still need to SEE!! Haha! Well, thanks again for support and we hope your move out here goes smoothly. Have a good one!
@@KurtandSara Banff - By far the most picturesque place we visited, and amazingly accessible. Like national parks in Europe, the city center is inside the park. At Lake Louise, don't skip the hike up to the Tea House. It's a bit of a climb, but you can't complain...the staff hikes the supplies up, and the trash down each day. Bend, OR - On our list of possible places to live, but lacking a little bit of the bohemian vibe we sense in Asheville. It's a beautiful place we would definitely visit again. Santa Barbara, CA - Too expensive to live there, but the views of the ocean are stunning. :) We lived in San Diego for years, and the views only get better as you travel up the coast. Take the 1 up to Big Sur near Carmel too. Yosemite, CA - Half Dome and El Capatain are epic in their size\scope. Take the Mist Trail Hike! Vancouver, BC - This city has everything! It's clean, filled with natural beauty, a lot of botanical gardens. Stanley Park is a place you explore for weeks. Yellowstone - We made the mistake of going to Glacier NP after Banff, so it seemed like a let down only in comparison. Yellowstone didn't though. We traveled from campsite to campsite circling through the park. We stopped daily by a beautiful lake for lunch, and almost always had it to ourselves. Seeing the Bison herd, and The Grand Prismatic was incredible. Boise, ID - This was a surprise for us. Downtown Boise is a very cool walkable place with great places to eat, coffee shops, etc. Cannon Beach, OR - Beautiful coast, and quaint town. Haystack Rock that you see in the movie, Goonies, is something to see in person from the beach. Harris Beach State Park (Brookings, OR) - I'm not sure Brookings has much of a draw, but this campground is a place we would definitely visit again for its beauty. Bozeman, MT - We didn't get to spend much time there, but it seemed like a cool town to come back to explore more. Snoqualmie, WA & Bellvue, WA - Bellvue is a much cooler city next to Seattle, and Snoqualmie its nature escape. This is about 1/10 of what we saw, but this reply is starting to seem like a Fodor's guide. lol See it all! :) Only 14 days until we see if Asheville tops the list of our what's next! Take care, and stay healthy!
I hope you're experiencing more pros then cons in your new location? We liked seeing your videos to Joshua Tree and San Diego!! We're looking at a possible cross country move as well and its hard to wrap your head around it sometimes! LOL!
Tucson, AZ! You'd love it. We are moving to Asheville and so excited. But I recommend Tucson, especially if you're in to food and nature! It's on of the UNESCO world heritage sites of gastronomy!
So many couple vloggers talk over each other and seem disinterested in what the other one is saying. Ya'll did a much more satisfying job being in sync and taking turns
Summer on Nantucket in a Stelth van 😎 I did that 2 summers parking over night all over. On 10 dollars a day! Then you'll see an art community. Free wine and orderves every weekend, free stuff from the take and leave, cheep designer clothes at thrift shops. Free food at the Nantucket Pantry, free best clams and scallops in the world, trade them for fish on the charter piers, shower at the boat basin, where the millionaires dock. Cook on their dock grill they never use. Wave to Bill Belicheck in his blue yacht. Feed the dock hands and say your on a morning the "Neat No Chaser" surf, sail,go to the nude beach, best time of my life I stayed 8 years as a caretaker for Miss Daisey 😉
I lived in NC for 10 years, and was originally from CA. I like the space, and friendliness of NC, but I could never adjust to the weather there. Very cloudy, and muggy in summer. The ticks are bad there, too. Otherwise though, a nice state.
We met each other in an Art Photography class in college and have never been apart since! Thanks for asking!! By the way, we're posting a NEW video this Thursday if you're interested. Its the first one in a year and we plan on making many more!
@@KurtandSara I assume Kurt was the one who asked Sara out or made the first move, just speaking of my lifelong resentment of how men always have to be the ones to court women or make the first move
We moved from Asheville NC to CA for work reasons. Then we moved to Texas to try that out. Now we miss Asheville and talk about moving back. Texas can be hot like the dessert. Hot doesn't work well for us. I rather be in a cooler colder climate. Although I remember some hot days in Asheville, I think they are just rare. Here in Texas, it's always hot. We are done with the hot.
I really enjoyed watching this video and I really enjoy the Asheville area! Just curious, did you guys ultimately make a decision one way or the other?
Thanks so much! We are so happy you liked the video. If you're still interested we are posting a new video this Thursday about what we ended up doing. We'd love for you to check it out! Thanks again!!
Currently Live in Central NJ I came across your guys videos cause I been looking into Ashville. Can how are living expenses in the city? Im looking for laid back, artisanal more hipster crowd in a city that thrives on music. Unlike you guys im single and wanna live the city life. Any specific reasons you wouldn't move down from NJ?
Hey Tyler, we moved from central NJ also and find Asheville in general to be much more affordable. Asheville is going to be more expensive than the surrounding areas but id imagine much better than places like Hoboken and the like in NJ. Prices do go up every year here especially in the last year so you might what to consider that. Good luck with your move and don't worry, there are plenty of hipsters down here, lol! Be sure to check out our NEW video (first one in over a year) this Thursday! We'd love for you to watch!! Take care.
Grew up in Morristown NJ, moved to San Diego in 2000. CA has gone downhill every year since I've been here. Looking to North Carolina by October 2022. Asheville is on my radar. CA is beautiful, however, everywhere you go, there are 12,532 people doing the same thing to get out of town on the weekends. There is no such thing as being alone! Taxes, politics, gas prices, gun laws, freedom....all the worst here. I pay $3K per month to live in a two bedroom condo in Carlsbad, CA. I would rather buy a home. Hey, also an art major in college (NJ) and I do photography and Graphic Design, professionally, to this day. How's the wedding/event/corporate market in Asheville. I've got enough money saved for 6 months w/o and income to rebuild my business elsewhere. I'll probably also get a job bar tending in the meantime. Lots of experience behind the bar while I was building my photo business, but I've had my own studio her in San Diego since 2004. Thanks for the video, you guys seem coolio!
Oh nice, a fellow NJ person! Yeah, CA seems pretty intense lately. Asheville could be a cool option for you, but it's very small (the city has about 90k people!) and there aren't tons of corporate-type jobs - it's better if you have remote work, in my opinion. I'm not sure about the wedding/event market. I'm sure there is some, but I would visit and see if you could get a job first, or at least put some feelers out. I think you could get a bar tending job though. Greenville SC is another nice area that sounds like it might fit your lifestyle, and bigger - more jobs. It's near mountains too, though in a flatter area. People are moving there a lot as well. Apartments are half the price you're paying! I wish you lots of luck finding your next home town! And thank you for watching! :)
@@KurtandSara Thank you for your input. Im researching the heck out of areas in NC, SC, TN etc to move to. Thank god for TH-cam and the internet. When I picked up and moved from NJ to CA, I basically pointed at a town on a map and said "here will do". Been living in "here will do" for 21 years. Carlsbad, CA. I actually love it, but its become too costly and too crowded.
I am seriously considering moving to Asheville,. I've lived in Austin, Texas southern California, Ithaca New York.. I'm concerned about moving alone. Will I be welcomed as a single person.. help??joshua tree and AZ are great too.
Hi, Tiffany, thanks for commenting! I'd defiantly visit first before moving and see if you feel comfortable. It sounds like you're well travelled but people do have mixed feelings about safety here. As to being welcomed, we find everyone to be very friendly and there are lots of meet ups and such in the area. We are posting a NEW video this Thursday (our first in over a year) and would love for you to check it out. Thanks again and have a great day!!
there are not going to be many places better than Asheville, but there are good and interesting things almost anywhere, as long as you pick your spots carefully. Funny thing is, my wife and I currently live in San Diego and are looking at this general region between N and S Carolina and Tennessee. Asheville is a very nice spot, for all the reasons you have stated. New Mexico is really nice if you can afford Santa Fe, but other than that, very high crime and poverty. All things being equal, you are young, you like new things. You could always move back, I would try a new spot and see what you think. But you do live in a slice of heaven and while you can find something new and different, even equally nice, nothing is really going to be much better. It just depends on you two and what you like around you. Good luck, I imagine you have already made your decisions and it has already happened. I will look in your feed to see.
Thanks so much for the info Brad, we really appreciate it! You are right, Asheville is hard to beat but there's such a big world to explore, lol. We've been through Santa Fe and really liked it. Taos was cool too and its on our list for sure. If you're interested we are posting a NEW VIDEO this Thursday (the first in over a year!) and would love for you to check it out! Thanks again for the nice comment and have a great day!!
Haha, we hear you but its such a big world to explore!! If you'd like we are posting a NEW video this Thursday and would love for you to watch! Its our first one in over a year and we are excited to make more videos in the future!! Thanks and have a great day.
We'll look into it, we hear Utah is very beautiful! We are posting a new video this Thursday with an update to where we decided if you're interested? Thanks for the nice comment!
My girl and I are moving to the west coast when our lease is up. I like Asheville a lot, beautiful place, but you have to really be into the abstract hippy type of stuff everyone's into. So if you're moving here and you're a people person, you should probably dye your hair neon green, stop showering, shave half your head & take up pottery. You'll be good then. Oh, & there's an awesome music scene here if you're a musician, as long as you make 1980's bluegrass music 🤙
Thanks for commenting, Mary! As far as we can tell, the locals are very friendly and so is the over all vibe of the place. That being said you do hear stories about crime especially in the city it's self. But we don't stay out late or go to dangerous places so we can't comment for sure. If you're interested we are posting a NEW video this Thursday and would love for you to check it out. Its our first video in over a year and updates everyone on our living status. Thanks again and have a good one!
Asheville is awful. Crime is twice the national average look it up. Homeless rug addicts on the street corners begging for Oney. They poop in streets and syringes all over. To much graffiti and I actually like graffiti. A dirty city. Traffic congestion is awful and overdevelopment. Once city council member was just caught cozying up to a developer. Hendersonville is nice but my wife and I moved away from Hendersonville to Crossville TN where it's even nicer.
Thanks for the heads up, Joseph! We've been through Santa Fe and Taos before and really enjoyed it but haven't stayed there long term. We just filmed a new video in Florida that's coming out this Thursday if you're interested? We'd love for you to check it out. Thanks again for the advice and take care!
Hey, so it’s my first time viewing your channel. And I really like Young at Heart Adventures idea to get an RV and travel. And I was thinking maybe you wouldn’t necessarily want to travel full-time but that way you could go on vacation and bring your dog with you. On the other hand, if you both really want to relocate My recommendation would be Washington State I don’t know if you guys have ever been there before. However, what’s really cool about WA is that it’s probably one of the most ecologically diverse states for example .Eastern WA is Desert ,Western WA has two rainforests, In Western WA there is the pacific ocean, of course there’s Puget sound ,also the lesser known Georgia straight and straight of Juan de Fuca. I personally love the San Juan Islands because you can go whale watching. The San Juan islands is home to the southern resident orcas. This is the only resident pod of orcas in the United States. Because they are residents they stay in San Juan Islands for majority of the year usually go away in the winter. They mainly eat salmon and like their cousins the transient orcas which eat other marine mammals and are also commonly seen in the area.Other whales seen in the area are humpback,Grey, Minke also there are seals and sea lions .I think you both would really love the mountains in WA, which unfortunately comes with 5 active volcanoes.
Thanks for the awesome comment! We've been looking at Washington for years but had no idea how diverse it was. The San Juan islands sound incredible and when we make our way out there we will defiantly have a look!! I think you are right about getting an RV and travelling around on vacation. Our dog does love a good roadtrip!! Thanks again and have a wonderful day.
I'm living in the Rocky Mountains and looking to move to Asheville and you're thinking about moving here. I guess the grass is always greener! If you do stay, maybe we'll see each other around sometime.
Haha, the problem is there's so much of the world we want to see! Yes, maybe we"ll see each other around. Good luck with your move and thanks for commenting!
Sorry to hear that! lots of Subarus and Fords out this way... Thanks for the comment and hopefully you found somewhere cool and lucrative to live? If you're interested we are posting a NEW video this Thursday and would love for you to check it out! Take care
We've been to all 50 states, have been living in Portland Oregon for the last 25 years, we want to move to Florida and North Carolina Asheville area and that is what we're going to do. it's nice to live in New Mexico and the desert but it's boring High alcoholic rate high death rate on the highways to alcoholics, hot as hell, and boring. your dog sounds like it's ready to go to doggie heaven so I would let it peacefully go and then you guys should go on with your life. Dedicate your next trip to the dog.
Thanks for the advice Grace! if you're interested we are posting a NEW video this Thursday and would love for you to check it out!! Have a great day...
Haha, don't worry we are still hear and plan on making many videos about our adventures in this area. Sorry to hear that Boise didn't work out for you. Hopefully you'll like it here better? Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We really appreciate it!! Take care
All this sounds good if you’re white… but for a unapologetic black person not so much my college roommate was from this place and he had a far different opinion… it’s great when you get white Privilege …
You gotta be trolling. Every other yard has a communist “black lives matter” or “we believe” sign, many of the businesses have the same type of signs or even large murals. One of the buildings in West Asheville even has a huge mural promoting “reparations” lol. The people here are completely blinded by cultural marxism and white guilt. I guess that’s not good enough though 🤷🏽♂️
How about this idea?? Get an RV and travel the country full time. Do it for a year and then decide! So many are doing this option now especially if you can work from anywhere with internet!
That's a great idea and something we've thought about a lot! We've even been to a few RV dealerships.
My family and I are moved to NC from NJ and we love it here, only things we miss are snow, Wawa, and the food nothing like a good cheesesteak and a big slice of pizza at the shore.
We miss Wawa too, lol! Yeah, something about pizza, its never the same as it is in NJ and NY...
Stay in Asheville and travel. As far as a home location in my opinion, I don't think you can beat it. Plus NC is such a beautiful state near so many other beautiful states- the options are endless. My vote is to stay and drive/fly out for diversity.
That sounds like a great plan, Jennifer, and you are right, North Carolina is so beautiful. Thanks for the helpful comment!! Have a good one!
1. Asheville, North Carolina average winter temperatures
2. Race Rocks, Canada average winter temperatures
Are you surprised by the fact the winters are warmer in Race Rocks, Canada than Asheville, NC?
@@KurtandSara Reply 2 of 2
Victoria, Canada is a city that's only 10 miles from Race Rocks.
Explore! The west is such a different vibe, it should be immersed properly, and y’all would explore it well 😊
Thanks for the encouragement! Once the weather gets a little warmer we hope to get out there on another road trip. Take care and have a great day :)
Have you tried the Nags Head or Okracoke Island area?
No Paula, we haven't been to any of those places yet, do you visit them a lot? Maybe we'll make a trip to the coast soon and check them out! Thanks for watching our video and commenting, we really appreciate it!
I’ve only been there once. Road the ferry across. I am planning on driving up there and seeing the wild horses!
Definitely understand the draw of living out West! Can’t wait to see what y’all decide.
Thanks Parker! You understand our adventurous spirits!! :)
I live in the Bay area and have community all over the West Coast and pretty much everyone I know out here is talking about leaving the West Coast asap due to the smoke and wildfires. Some of us are actually flying to Ashville soon to look into buying land together 😂
So, seven months later, did you stay or did you go? Curious in Seattle.

@@KurtandSara thanks, we hope you two are staying safe and healthy!
How about coming to Brevard. You can still access the Parkway and you will be surrounded with waterfalls!
Sorry to hear about what happened! We'll definitely keep that in mind!! Thanks for the comment and stay safe.
Colorado is WAY too Expensive. Don't do it.
Good luck with your move next year!!
were you able to find a job. is it hard to find work?
Do you like it so far?
Ocean Beach San Diego CA. No one stays long in Denver or CO.

I like the video but I'm really curious what job your working from home or u should make a video about how u got into that job and how to do it
Thank you for the comment! Sara's job is a corporate job that she is able to do from home.
My wife and I grew up in Florida. We’ve been in Colorado for 4 years but are considering Asheville for a change and to be closer to family.
I love Asheville! Have you checked out the Bohemian hotel? A terrific artsy hotel that boasts enchanting decor as one can imagine!

Good Luck!!

Stay where you are, rent a house, put the dog into doggie daycare and go to Europe for for two to three weeks for something “more different”. South of France, Italian or Portuguese countryside, all beautiful, all really different. It’s a big world out there...
Thanks so much for the input, it's an interesting idea! We would love the chance to travel the world one day!!

We're making the same kind of choice, but to move TO Asheville when our lease is up in Austin in November! I completely get the urge to experience new places. We spent 9 months last year traveling in a van up the West Coast into Canada, and back. It was pretty epic in the PNW.

Banff - By far the most picturesque place we visited, and amazingly accessible.
Only 14 days until we see if Asheville tops the list of our what's next!

Great videos. South Carolina residents are required to pay a vehicle property tax. Is it the same in NC? Thx!

Sometimes it is good to have a change. We just moved across the country. Pros and cons, but good for different experiences.
I hope you're experiencing more pros then cons in your new location? We liked seeing your videos to Joshua Tree and San Diego!! We're looking at a possible cross country move as well and its hard to wrap your head around it sometimes! LOL!

I love Asheville but a different terrain than here in N.C. would be nice to! I’d love to live out close to Yosemite in Cali.
We're with you on that one! Yosemite is on the top of our list!! Thanks for commenting.
there are not going to be many places better than Asheville, but there are good and interesting things almost anywhere, as long as you pick your spots carefully.
Nothing compares to W. NC Asheville area - nothing ! You guys have got to be nuts to leave !!!
Haha, we hear you but its such a big world to explore!!
If you'd like we are posting a NEW video this Thursday and would love for you to watch! Its our first one in over a year and we are excited to make more videos in the future!!
Thanks and have a great day.
Move to SLC or Ogden UT
Thanks for the tips and good luck with your move. Let us know if you like the west coast better!!
I absolutely love North Carolina but I have never visited Ashville.I have heard alot of good things about it though. What are the locals like?
Thanks for commenting, Mary! As far as we can tell, the locals are very friendly and so is the over all vibe of the place. That being said you do hear stories about crime especially in the city it's self. But we don't stay out late or go to dangerous places so we can't comment for sure.
If you're interested we are posting a NEW video this Thursday and would love for you to check it out. Its our first video in over a year and updates everyone on our living status. Thanks again and have a good one!
@@KurtandSara And thank you for your response! I'm looking forward to your next video 😉
We live in new mexico, and i think you'd be disappointed. It's all kind of...the same.
NJ? You know you want to.
How much is my mother paying you?
wwhitehead42 agree. Or Bucks County.

Move to Venezuela or Cuba.
Cuba would be very cool for sure! Thanks!!
We were just down in south Florida filming a video that comes out this Thursday! we weren't that far from Cuba, lol!
I want to move but I’m a vw tech and I realized literally no one there was driving a vw. So I’d literally make no fucking money
Stay....we are coming...lol let's just say that Boise ID is not our cup of tea.
Haha, don't worry we are still hear and plan on making many videos about our adventures in this area. Sorry to hear that Boise didn't work out for you. Hopefully you'll like it here better? Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We really appreciate it!! Take care
LEAVEEEEEEEE GO WEST
Get out I lived there for 17 years til the damn tourists ruined it
All this sounds good if you’re white… but for a unapologetic black person not so much my college roommate was from this place and he had a far different opinion… it’s great when you get white
Privilege …
Sorry to hear that, Ivy.
