    The song is about masturbation. Her reference to "down there" and at the gas station she's in the "self service" line and also "they say I better stop or I'll go blind". Classic!

    You are exactly spot-on about what the song is about! :-) ... Some more hits by Cyndi that you'd enjoy are "I Drove All Night" and "True Colors."

    Cyndi’s three first albums are very good. To experience Cyndi’s success and influence in the 80’s was a privilege. She is an unique artist and deserves much more recognition. I’m glad you’re enjoying it and I’m sure you’ll be surprised with her great discography . It took me a while to find out what the song was about. 😃

    Money Changes Everything , Change of Heart, What's Going On (Marvin Gaye cover), Boy Blue, I drove all night, My first night without you, World is Stone, Who Let in the Rain, That's What I think, Sally's Pigeons.... the remake of Girls Just Want to Have Fun in 1994 retitled "Hey Now (Girls Just Want to Have Fun), You don't know, .... she also has a lot of songs with no video, so it will have to be a random live performance.

    Cyndi is a very artsy artist and also a fantastic vocalist. You guess is on point. 😆 True Colors is a complete 180 from this. You know, I gotta say, I have no recollection of that intro on this song. Took me totally by surprise today. It's funny how you can live through an era and still miss so much. I probably only ever heard a radio edit of this song. Thanks for going back in time to learn me something new today. 😊

    I could swear I heard Cyndi say in an interview that she was also paying homage to "The Big Bopper" but I can't seem to find any info on it now. Definitely the most fun I ever had at a concert was at hers when she was 55 and still climbing all over the stage.

  • @appletree6898

    I love seeing you react to Cyndi! A very interesting clip to watch is her, Huey Lewis, and Kim Carnes rehearsing their section of "We Are The World." You see a lot of Cyndi's personality. She had a ton of jewelry on and the necklaces clinking interfered with the recording, so it's endearing and funny to watch her dealing with that, but I also gained mad respect for how she continued to improvise and change her solo into the powerhouse, iconic bridge on the final recording-- it's really the pivotal moment that, in my opinion, made the whole song. She has such a free spirit and a pure heart, I love her

    She Bop is such a great song with a great music video. Love her uniqueness. Cyndi was right for MTV when videos were becoming a trend in the mid 80's, she delivers enjoyable music videos. Other Cyndi Great videos: Money Changes Everything, True Colors, Change Of Heart, I Drove All Night & Hole In My Heart.

    Treat yourself and watch the many videos of Cyndi on Johnny Carson’s tonight show. He gave her the huge break she needed with live performances and interviews. So much so that she gifted him her first gold record live on air when he retired. Anyways, the live performances of her hits are amazing, and you get to really see her personality in the interviews.

    From her debut album, Girls Just Want To Have Fun & Time After Time seems to be her songs that gets the most radio airplay for decades. Her third single "She Bop" is my favorite song from this album. Her music video is insane, but is fun video. My Favorite music video by her is True Colors. Since you want to see her on a live performance, check out "Money Changes Everything" which was her 5th single of this album. The music video is a live performance, Awesome performance... A Must see memorable performance is from 1985 AMA, She performed "When You Were Mine"

    You're on point. She touches vibrating motorcycle, "beef cake" mag, "Masterbingo" sign, animated "Self Service" sign, the
    lyric "can't stop messing with the danger zone" for a live performance try "On through the night".

    Cyndi Lauper is very good live, and she’s still going strong. A few years ago She did a performance on Austin City Limits. I’m not sure what you have heard from her yet but a few If my favorites are “All Through The Night”, “Money Changes Everything”, “I drove All Night”, and of course “True Colors”. Look for live versions, there are many out there.

    Most will laugh at this statement but she is a GENIUS! Back when I was in high school, no one was a bigger star than her, except maybe Madonna. She is still performing and sounding great. She is a treasure, not only for her music but for her unmatched personality and for loving the gay community! Watch some of her live stuff.

    I love Cyndi but my favorite song of hers was a never-released single with no video either called 'I Don't Want to be Your Friend.' I think most of us can relate to the words..........it is an excellent song of hers from her A Night to Remember album.

    She is extremely talented and has an incredible voice. After you check out her 80's hits, I encourage you to look into some of her later live performances of some of these songs (and others) that you can find on TH-cam. I think she got better with age.
    BTW, you are slaying it with your look today, just saying'! ❤

    No lies were told in the lyrics 😉. Definitely check out Cindi’s performance of When You Were Mine at the 1985 American Music Awards. It’s iconic, conceptual and you will see how artists like Lady Gaga and Halsey have been “inspired” by it. The song was written by Prince. And I forgot to mention in my earlier post, your make up and lipstick are 🔥🔥🔥

    I am glad you caught the meaning, a lot of people really miss it... sometimes you gotta say "It's about masturbation , now go be a good boy/girl and go back and watch it again carefully and everything will make sense."

    • @PancakeMarshmallowDude
      @PancakeMarshmallowDude  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, yes! I love how creatively she presented the meaning without explicitly saying anything.

    • @petervenkman69
      @petervenkman69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PancakeMarshmallowDude I suppose another example of a song that talked about masturbation without being too obvious (like I touch myself) is "Good Girls Go To Heaven (But Bad Girls Go Everywhere)" which was originally performed by Pandora's Box and later by Meat Loaf. Not surprisingly (if you know about either band) the song was written by Jim Steinman.
