1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport In Action

  • 72 Ford Gran Torino Sport footage from "Fear is the Key". Before you complain, yes this is not the complete chase scene. This is what the title says... Torino in action. If the Torino wasn't in the shot, I edited it out. Get it... Torino in action only!
Fear Is the Key is a 1972 British action thriller film directed by Michael Tuchner and based on the 1961 novel of the same name by Alistair MacLean. It stars Barry Newman and Suzy Kendall, with supporting roles by John Vernon, Dolph Sweet, and Ben Kingsley in his feature film debut.
The film did poorly in the US and VHS sales didn't last long and never went to DVD. Basically, no longer available in the US standard formats.
But, "Fear is the Key" is obtainable as Region 2 UK DVDs and as for the US goes, it appears on formats like HoloLens, PC, Mobile device, Xbox 360, etc...

Boy Barry Newman sure was lucky that the first unlocked car he found with the keys in it was a Ford Torino GT and not a VW Bug.

I was a dumbass and sold it when I bought a new mustang gt in 83. I think I got $600 for it because it was an old car and a gas guzzler according to every dealership I tried to trade it in.

The 72 Gran Torino and Rancheros are arguably 2 of the prettiest Fords from the 70s, at least in my opinion. I used to know a guy with a 500 series Ranchero (I think a 74?) Good looking project truck, I just couldn't get over the standard Torino front clip. Its like looking at Catherine Bach then giving her the Kardashian treatment

I wonder how may Gran Torinos were wrecked for that scene. It almost looks like one, with the scene shot out of sequence and then edited because the bent frame after the jump is being driven through a lot afterwards. The original "Gone In 60 Seconds" uses one Mustang for the whole movie, so it can and has been done.
It seems old Fords were most film makers preferred cars when a serious beating was to be applied.

quite a few maybe. 1-2 for camera cars 1 maybe with modified suspension 1for beauty shots 1-backup and that's an average of 5. this is how many challengers they had for vanishing point 71 also with Paul Newman.

    I'm sooo late, but...
One of my High School cars (76-80) was a 73 Torino Sports Roof, Light Blue w/ a darker blue V-top, with "Laser Stripes". I called it the "Tomato" because of it's bulbous shape. I have to tell you, after killing the original smog pump 400 cid and replacing it with a 1968 high compression 429 Thunderjet out a T-Bird and adding a Shift Kit to the incredible C-6 Automatic. It became an amazingly FAST and FUN car!!! One of my favorite of ALL the cars I have owned. Thank you for posting this video, I have never seen or heard of this film. I believe the used more then 3 cars just in between shots in one frame the chassis is bent 6 degrees in one fram the front right fender is beat beyond repair the other frame shows the fender damage less severe and i am not saying where the shifter went missing lmao

I wish they didn't kill the car. Back then they were as numerous as Honda Civic's and Ford cars were used more than anything else. Too bad we can't get a new one. Such a sweet ride. My friend in H.S. had a 1970 Torino GT. THOSE WERE.THE DAYS

I dont want to be another complainer but goddamn man... you cut out the part where that Bonneville whips a backwards 180 and the tire mashes the curb. Right when he's getting off the barge.

I don't mean to pee in you Cheerios but new cars wouldn't hold up like this. Crumple zones are an action sequence's worst nightmare. I like where your mind is at though.

They wouldn't take this punishment. The skirting and bumpers and grills would have come off the moment they hit the first pot hole , plus the airbags and flat tyres on low profile wheels.

It's too much pain in the ass computers if you don't unhook things correctly the airbags will pop in your face while you're trying to do something

Great car, bad movie... just my opinion. I'm a tough movie screener and former owner of a Ford Gran Torino Sport 351 Cleveland, 4-Barrel , C6 Tran. Pushed it over the 125 mark on speedometer. Needle would just bounce easily against the 125mph peg.

Continuity still wasn't on the chase scene priority list at least details like that. Best early chase scene continuity is Gone In 60 Seconds (1974), single take though multiple cities.
