    if you hold an oil bottle like your 5 liter sideways when you pour the air will move in the top half of the hole and it won't go glug glug when pouring it out. The way you poured in only works when the bottle is not full. But it is best to use a funnel, but without one you need more talent. Great vid saved me time in my research to do an oil change on a friend's Z4.

    Great little video, and thanks for adding the info about car being level, and the jack down solution. Gonna be doing a first interim service on my e85 soon and this has been useful!

    Nice video. ALthough the reset method wasn't all that clear as i heard you press the button a few times. Thanks mate... just about to change the oil on my wife's Z4.. always like to check youtube for surprises.

      Hey Ken, Thank you for subscribing. I agree about the reset. It was the first time doing it on the Z4 and it was a little touchy. I tried to do it again but seeing that it was already reset it would not allow me to do so.

      Found this:
      Oil Service Reset BMW Z4
      2004-2005
      BMW recommends the use of a reset tool.
      Manual Reset
      1. Turn off the ignition.
      2. Press and hold the TRIP ODOMETER button in the instrument cluster and turn the ignition to Accessory.
      3. Keep the button pressed for 5 seconds until OIL SERVICE RESET (RE) or INSPECTION RESET (RE) appears in the display. Then release the button.
      4. Press and hold the button again for 5 seconds until RE or RESET flashes in the display. Then release the button.
      5. With the display flashing
      6. Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

    Great video - well explained. I was worried it would be more complicated. Using the jack up then down to drain is very clever as I had the same thought, as you did it that draining at the jack angle was not a good method. Thanks, I learnt a new trick today for future reference. Now I am off to do my oil change.

    I always clean this off with a clean rag before I install the new seal. All kinds of road grime and grit can end up in that location which will mess with a seal.

    Just a couple of notes. I didn’t see you chock the rear wheels. I always chock a wheel opposite the end I’m jacking up. BMW does have a spec for their oil. My 07 Z4 3.0si takes LL-01.

    Why do German service shops take the oil out through the dipstick as opposed to the drain plug? Doesn't that leave residue in the oil pan by sucking out of dipstick?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a quicker, less messy process. I have seen the reviews on this method and it is suppose to take just as much oil out as the traditional way, but for me I just dont like it as much.

  • @n2mfam
    @n2mfam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice Video, glad you shared. I know I'm late here on response, as you've parted ways with the z in the video. I've got an 06 z4 3.0si - my question is, if you wait to do the oil filter last - would that have reduced the chance of oil spillage from the top? Just wondered,,,,about to change mine now that it's time to get out for summer! Thx.

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will be the same. All of the oil drains back into the pan when you shut the car off. There will be a good bit of residual oil but you can do it first or last and the amount should be equal.
