      Did they stop making the GDI Turbo version of Castrol EDGE 5w 30? I can't find it at Wal Mart or Amazon.

    If I may add a small suggestion here. I would always loosen the oil filter to the point you can turn it by hand before removing the sump plug. This will allow the filter housing to start to drain into the sump so that you get the most of the old oil out of your engine. This is not in any way a criticism of the video. I have used these videos to help me look after my E89 since I bought it last year. Thank you. Tony.

    All good videos. I changed the salmon relays today. If your taking requests, I's like to see a coolant flush/change. Thanks in advance, John M.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the coolant flush about a year ago and didn't film it thinking no one would watch it, darn! What I did remove the protective cover on the bottom, take off the clamp of the hose next to the radiator and then slowly unscrewed the cap on the coolant tank. It's a bit messy, but this way it doens't all rush out right away. Thanks for watching!

      Certainly on my Z4 E89 23i, there is a blue drain screw on the left side of radiator. . Drain radiator removing blue plug on radiator left side bottom. Get in car and turn on ignition but do not start car. Put heat on max and fan on minimum. Put your foot down on gas pedal for 10 seconds. Water pump will cycle on for 20-30 seconds then off draining block. Replace drain plug and fill with distilled water. Repeat pump purge cycle except this time add water as pump cycles. Repeat process until water is clear, no antifreeze remaining. Fill with 5 litres BMW antifreeze and then keep refilling during pump cycle with distilled water. You need to keep going back to start pump. Watch and hear for bubbles to clear in the expansion tank. Eventually the fluid runs smooth. Fill to mark and test run.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mccommj as far as I understand, the HU 816 X comes with the metal crush washer for metal oil pans and the Z comes with a plastic bolt for the plastic oil pans. Thanks for watching!

    I would wear nitrile gloves - old oil is cancergenic and gives skin conditions.
    Did your car have an access port for the sump plug? It should be one that just flips down one side..
    Definitely worth cleaning the sump case to monitor any future oil leak issues...
    Thanks for the video

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestions! I washed my hands right after that. As far as an access port, there is an access port there but I was swapping the sensor there as well so I took the cover off. So, you don’t have to take it off just for an oil change. I cleaned up the area after I was done and before I put everything together. Thanks for watching!

  • @mccommj
    @mccommj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good video. I now have the tools and confidence to change my own oil. Just a couple of questions. Wouldn't you get more of the old oil out if you took the car off of the jack stands as the last step in draining the oil? Also, Have you tried using a topsider to remove oil? Thanks and yes, I subscribed.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad to hear that you can do it yourself now! You potentially could get a little bit more of oil out if you took it off the jack stands, but I believe that the amount would be negligible. You are never really changing all of it anyway. If there is sludge or contaminates that you need to get out, I would take the car off the jack stands and do a flush with some cheap oil. I've not tried the topsider for oil removal, but I might look into that one day! Thanks for subscribing and I hope you enjoy the videos.

    Amazon lists the Mann oil filter that I need for my Z4 28i N20 is part #HU816Z. I noticed the part # in your video is HU816X. It seems the X version has a crush washer and the Z version has the plastic plug. Maybe this is a change that has been made since your video was made.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are absolutely right. I replied to your other comment. The filter is the same, but if you have an X drive N20 car (like 328xi or X1 etc.), your oil pan will be metal and you'd need the washer. I think I was just sent the wrong part, but it worked fine for me. Thanks for watching!
