Hey bimmerzen Ive been loving your videos especially the N46 repairs. i have an E92 with an N46 with bad stem seals would you recommend running a thicker 5w 40w oil instead of 5w30 to reduce the smoke? Or would it not make a difference Thanks.
Thanks! You could try with 5W40 oil, improvement will of course depend on the state of your engine. Maybe try for one oil change and compare before and after. To be honest, when the valve stem seals are bad, the only proper solution is replacing them and after that do oil changes every 10.000 km or 1 year with LL01/LL04 spec oil.
@BimmerZen Thanks, yeah i think the engine itself is still in good condition but the seals only blow smoke when i accelerate from a stop. There's usually a puff if i accelerate quickly. I do wanna get them replaced, but I don't exactly feel confident doing it myself and dont wanna pay thousands for labour at a shop.
Have you thought about putting something like a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve in place of the sump plug, then regular oil changes are less messy? Did you clean dripping oil in the undertray?

I haven't to be honest:) I'll check it out! I haven't cleaned the undertray, I don't think there is any dripping oil there...
