- For such a powerful bird, the Bald Eagle emits a surprisingly weak-sounding call, usually a series of high-pitched whistling or piping notes. This vocalization is so unimpressive that Hollywood sound editors often dub over a Bald Eagle's call, with a far more impressive sound; the piercing, earthy screams of a smaller bird, the Red-tailed Hawk.

Our goal is to release our patients back into the wild; some, however, are injured so severely they could not survive in the wild even after rehabilitation. These birds may join our Raptors-in-Residence, providing excitement and education for more than 80,000 annual visitors and for the 15,000 schoolchildren we reach through the Adopt-a-raptor program and classroom presentations around the country.

I love how the eagle looks more intimidating but the hawk’s call is just downright terrifying

Here's another thing. Whenever you hear a lion roaring in fiction, they seldom utter real lion roars or growls. Instead, filmmakers usually use tiger and/or leopard vocalizations.
Sometimes it's a guy named Frank snarling into a metal trashcan.

Not roars..all roars are lions roars because lions have the best roar among big cats..what you are referring is growl..lions don’t have the best growl unfortunately..it’s too deep and cannot capture that well..that’s why they replace it with tiger or leopard growl

This is because tigers sound strong and intimidating and lions sound like daycore cows. If you wanted to convey the idea that the US is a powerful but friendly country, the Bald Eagle with its actual call makes more sense.

Apparently there's a native story in the Pacific Northwest about how Bald Eagles were the only raptor to help other birds find their voices, the others were too proud. So they alone get to sing, where the other raptors only get to squawk.

there's a red-tailed hawk somewhere in my neighborhood who does the classic Hollywood sound a couple of times an hour, usually in the afternoon/evening, it's very impressive lol I do like the bald eagle's call too, it's very musical and reminds me a little bit of King Ghidorah's roars from the 60s Godzilla movies lol

I love both their sounds, I don’t know why people think the bald eagle sounds weak it sounds like a bird.
Misconceptions. I find the sound a bit scary up close anyway. It's a lot higher pitch than people think, because it really isn't this cute little squeak.

Two birds that haven’t forgotten that they are in the dinosaur family.
I've had one of these hawks on my property since last year, and it still trips me out to hear the screech without a bullwhip crack or guitar riff or something 😅
the fact that Hollywood lied to us for decades about what the bald eagle sounds like kinda annoys me, but it's still a majestic bird. even if it's calls aren't nearly as impressive as that of a hawk.
I like to think the hawk was in a tense argument with the egale and lost because it never said anything again in the vid while the egale belittles him.
Even tho its head is so small, the hawk still looks kinda scary.
The eagle clip reminded me of the Mike Tyson Simpson's prison episode. "Hey you guys be quiet.", and the riot stops and everyone gets back in their cells.
One time I saw a crow unwisely land on a freeway light next to a bald eagle. Crows can fly backwards, I didn't know that until I saw it. It was pretty hilarious.

I don't get why everyone thinks the Bald Eagle's call sounds bad or silly. I think it sounds great, and just as if not more majestic than Red Tailed Hawks or any other raptors.

To the Red Dead Redemption 2 fans among us: They actually did their homework on this one. You won't catch Eagles making Hawk calls and vice versa. The eagles actually make those kinds of noises, and Hawks respectively.
I’m not a fan of birds being right next to me, but it’s just amazing to hear those birds speak. The eagle doesn’t sound like a songbird, and only somewhat like a gull, but still has a unique call that is the true voice of American freedom. The hawk’s call, on the other hand, is the absolute LAST thing I want to hear before I potentially get dive-bombed and pecked at.

The cry of the Bald Eagle is a beautiful metaphor for Americans who would rather believe a lie that makes them feel patriotic vs truth that might bring shame.
If you consider just how similar bald eagles look to chickens, their cry makes a lot more sense.
The hawk's screech is like a battle cry but the eagle's is like a plea. God just switch the two already!
