    This song is about a 15yr old boy named Jeremy Wade who shot himself in front of his class in 1991. A very very tragic story. Love this song and love this band. Grunge era rock=best rock

    He was neglected by his parents and bullied at school. A child can't make it alone. Unfortunately this story is still retold over and over today. We haven't learned anything in the 30 years since this song. I like your interpretation of the scenes in the video. You can always see when the wheels are turning in your head, and genuine concern on your face. It's nice, it sets you apart, I think.

      I don't know where you got that information, but his classmates and parents completely disagree. Most of the school hated the music video, because it made his classmates out to be bullies, that they were the cause.

      ....And clearly they were the cause along with his abusive father, since he apparently said so himself. The fact that narcissists and assholes say "We didn't do anything wrong when we bullied him, in fact we weren't bullying at all when we incessantly bullied him" is obviously irrelevant.

    1:54 - "Hold on. Why he reachin' at the little things like that." - It's a reference to the lyrics just before:
    Daddy didn't give attention
    To the fact that Mommy didn't care.
    King Jeremy the Wicked
    Ruled his world
    As a King, he's touching his absent parents.
    I actually prefer the second stanza:
    Daddy didn't give affection
    And the boy was something that Mommy wouldn't wear
    King Jeremy the Wicked
    Ruled his world
    That and "Try to erase this from the blackboard" are some awesome lyrics that kick me in the gut every time.
    R.I.P. Jeremy Wade Delle.

    Jeremy Delle shot himself in front of his class. The events in this video leading to that point, have been fabricated. Eddie drew inspiration from 2 separate incidents - the suicide of Jeremy and a former classmate of his, who didn't commit suicide but he had threatened to shoot up the school. Jeremy wasn't mistreated at home, but he was bullied. Ed wanted to make a statement regarding bullying, which is STILL an issue. Another piece of trivia - the actor portraying Jeremy also met a premature death

    • @irishinnish1
      @irishinnish1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Whoa! Time out. "Jeremy wasn't mistreated at home"? You can't make that assumption because his mom said so (and yes, I know how JDW's mother feels about this song). "Mistreatment" is a subjective statement. NO, he wasn't beaten. But there are different levels to neglect, and negelect is a form of abuse. And yeah, maybe he was loved by the family. But in cases like this, the people who knew the 'victim' best are usually the people who knew what was going on the least. That's just a fact. Jeremy Wade Delle was a social pariah and he didn't feel his parents/family understood the problem, and for whatever reason, he did NOT feel he could make them undestand. Maybe it was because of his lack of ability to communicate his feelings. Or maybe - just maybe - they were so distracted with things in their lives that his family just didn't see his pain as anything more than typical teen angst. Either way, you can't say with any authority he wasn't mistreated, even if that mistreatment was inadvertant. He was pushed over the edge because he felt helpless. Point blank.

    • @mzluna313
      @mzluna313 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@irishinnish1 Whoa! Okay! Maybe I should have used the word "abused" or "beaten". Most teens at 15 feel their parents don't "understand" them. In what interview does his mom say he was "mistreated" at home? From the interviews I have read and watched Jeremy's home life was typical of the teen in the early 90's. None of us felt "understood" by our parents or any adult for that matter! My parents didn't spend a lot of time with me and many of my friends were experiencing the same thing. That's partially why we were all drawn to grunge. In THIS video we're "guided" to a conclusion that his suicide was brought on by an unbearable home life and relentless bullying at school and that just isn't accurate

    • @randipearson4930
      @randipearson4930 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mzluna313 no one knows what’s accurate because Jeremy’s perspective may be different for yours or mine or his parents .. so no one knows for sure and you can’t say all teens feel like their parents don’t understand cause that’s not true either .. my point is we don’t know his perspective or even his parents . They could be in denial about it .. no one knows

    Holla, its not about the words. Its about how far a kid can be pushed by bullies in this world and parents who aren't doing their job. Parents who are too damn busy with their phones to teach their kids to be nice to others. Its almost like some of them take pride in how mean their kids can be. Until there are punishments to the parents for not raising their kids properly (and yes I get it isn't ALWAYS the parents fault but 9 times out of 10, it is) ... the cycle is not going to stop. My heart just breaks for kids like Jeremy who felt they have no other way out. It crushes me.

    90s grunge can be “confusing” if you’ve never heard it before and not familiar with the genre. Everything in a 90s grunge video is intentional and the lyrics are poetic (most of the time anyway). It’s an amazing genre if you have the time to think and let the music tell you a story. It’s more than a catchy hook.

    Hi thanks for the reaction to this song. The video hits really hard and cuts really deep. The inspiration for this song was 15 year old Jeremy Wade Dell who was bullied at school and ignored at home so he snaps walks into class and puts a gun in his mouth and pull the trigger infront of everyone. RIP Jeremy Wade Dell. If you google his name you’ll find out more about him. Amazing Pearl Jam song and it’s still relevant more so today with social media etc. Take care 😘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    The reason MTV pulled the video is in the edited version you didn't know if he shoots himself or his classmates. They were worried about a kid watching the video and shooting his class. Unedited version he kills himself.

    Just a fyi, everyone shows the ending. They don't get banned. It is a confusing video until the end when it all comes together. Poor kid was bullied into killing himself, between no attention at home and all his class mates picking on him, it was enough to drive him over the edge. I am just so sorry he didn't have someone he could turn to. Thanks for doing this video. Teaching our kids that bullying is wrong is so important.

  • @Rayvn7

    So obviously we don't know any lyrics for this unless we look it up. In fact I think every single fan of this song (who has never read the liner notes) would think the chorus ends in "broken, yesterday". It is actually "Jeremy spoke in class today." So I successfully looked up the lyrics (finally) while watching your video, and I would say the song is clearly about a school shooter, except that I heard this song well before the first well-known (possibly the first ever) school shooting, Columbine. The first verse says that "he stands atop the mountain with the bodies below him in pools of maroon" (apprx.). But it's a school shooting with a twist - Jeremy is a real individual who committed suicide by gun in the middle of class, not shooting the other kids but shooting himself. Which means that that line in the first verse about dead bodies doesn't make sense, but perhaps the band is implying that Jeremy visualized himself killing his bullies and then decided to kill himself and not them, however, they shouldn't include that thought since Jermey is a real person.

  • @andidreyes5323
    @andidreyes5323 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is an ARTISTIC explanation for possible reasons for WHY...but it's not 100% based on the Jeremy's death. I say that because Eddie Vedder has said so. He even says that he imagined that someone he (Vedder) bullied in school personally, might have done this same thing because of his actions...made him want to change that. Hence this story.
