Great song, great band! It’s a story song that combines a real-life event with Eddie Vedder's own childhood memories and imagination. The song was inspired by the tragic story of Jeremy Wade Delle, a 15-year-old boy from Richardson, Texas who died by suicide in front of his classmates on January 8, 1991. The song also incorporates Vedder's own negative childhood memories. ✌️

I am so thankful for my mother. A single parent household. She was strong but gentle. She made me the man I am today.
She went to sleep just recently. I miss her so much. ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏

I don’t mean to make assumptions about your specific situation but whenever I hear something like this it makes me happy to hear. I always thought that it’d be preferable to have one caring parent then two parents where one is toxic to everyone. That’s why I always hate people blaming divorce for everything wrong with society.
But people don’t understand that the toxicity of an individual seeps into everything and even though they may pretend it doesn’t, kids understand more than they get credit for. “Staying together for the kids” can make them internalize that it is *their* fault for the unhappiness.
I am sorry to hear about your loss. Your mother sounds like she was a wonderful person and even more wonderful parent.❤

Pearl Jam rocks! Nearly thirty years on and "Jeremy" remains as powerful today as it was back when it was new. It's more or less based on a true story. Another song from back when with a somewhat similar theme is "I Don't Like Mondays" by The Boomtown Rats, also more or less based on a true story about one of the earliest school shootings in the US back in 1979. One clear difference between the videos from the nineties and the videos from the eighties is that the videos from the nineties enjoyed superior audio quality. Dressing the school kids in white adds to the gruesomeness of the final scenes in the video. Eddie Vedder writes fearless lyrics that wear their heart on their sleeves, so to speak. When you're ready for more Pearl Jam, check out some of these greats -- "Even Flow", "Black", "Daughter", "Better Man", "Yellow Ledbetter", "Courduroy", "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town". Back in 2008, the US cable television channel VH1 hosted a "Rock Honors" show in honor of The Who that featured Pearl Jam performing "Love, Reign o'er Me" and "The Real Me" together with an entire section of violins that was quite spectacular. Check out a clip of that when you can. Also check out Eddie Vedder's powerful cover of "Masters of War" for the 30th anniversary tribute to Bob Dylan back in 2006.

Tragically the actor who plays Jeremy in this video died by drowning when he was 36 :(

Eddie Vedder is the greatest storyteller of my generation. His lyrics, though sometimes rough, are always meaningful, telling stories and making observations that often go unnoticed or are uncomfortable - especially back in the day, you can imagine, they broke MTV with that video. They ended up really kinda not in love with it and it put them off of making any more, but I think it's poppycock - 30 years later, it's still serving its intended purpose, and is one of the most stunning music videos and songs ever. Great reaction, honestly one of the best I've seen. I always appreciate your understanding of the power of a cohesive family. Sometimes there will be Jeremys that no one saw coming, like the real Jeremy... but the vast majority of the time, other Jeremys could be avoided.

First time viewer - I like that you don't pause the song every ten seconds. I'm sure that's dangerous if people might click off after the music. I prefer it. Great job. FYI - If you check out Pearl Jam Unplugged know singer Eddie Vedder gave that fantastic performance while sick. Try Alive next unless I missed it. I'll check.

You're very insightful! Sadly, the content of this song will always be relevant. Check out Pearl Jam's song/video "BLACK". On another sad note the kid who portrayed "Jeremy" in this video passed away in 2016 at the young age of 36. He was on vacation in Puerto Rico and he got caught in a riptide while swimming and drowned. RIP Trevor.
