Someone suggested other recordings of Mr. Orlinski. I’ve heard quite a few. All of these singers are very good.

Handels music reigns supreme
While they are all good, Franco Fagioli has richness no other demonstrated. There is another level of beauty of his voice. His voice hugs you. I could listen to each of them for about an hour, but Franco Fagioli, I can listen to all day.
I found Franco Fagioli. His voice is pure and pious. I was moved by him in a peacefulness.
Jakub Józef Orliński has the purest and most natural voice. And the diction as well well as the dramatic expression are simply perfect.
I had to listen again to Franco’s rendition...which was so incredibly lovely...no words to really describe. What a magnificent voice.

Orlinski has one of the most beautiful voices in music history. He and Jaroussky bring something angel-like to this aria, almost inhuman, detached from our normal flow of perceptions and music. A true delight.

Dificil elección, todos maravillosos, pero Franco es excepcional, su voz transmite algo más que música, es pura emoción , contamina todo lo que canta y el Barroco es emoción desbordada.
Mr Scholl. The live broadcast performance that he gave of this aria under conductor Patrick Summers was one of the great moments on the Met stage in the last 40 years.
Franco Fagioli. Although they are all very good.Fagioli's voice is pure magic.
Orlinski, my favorit
Orlinski and Jaroussky are light and beautifully interpreted, however, Fagioli's voice is like melted chocolate with an unmatched depth of emotion.

Are you not bothered too much by Fagioli's vibrato? To my ear, he overuses it... far too much of it.
I am for many years ardent admirer of Andreas Scholl but last year l discovered Orlinski and since then l am in love with his voice too!

Was ist besser, Erde, Himmel, Wasser oder Feuer? Alles zu der Zeit und Gelegenheit und auf nichts kann man verzichten. Auch nicht auf jede einzelne herrliche Stimme, die sich perfekt in Herzen hineinsingt. ❤ Ganz toll, alle Fünfe.
Sehr schön ausgedrückt! Warum muss immer verglichen und gegeneinander ausgespielt werden. Alle diese Sänger haben außergewöhnliche Stimmen. Außerdem sind die Aufnahmen offenbar unter sehr verschiedenen akustischen Gegebenheiten gemacht worden, so dass man gar nicht wirklich vergleichen kann.

Andreas Scholl proposed a more expressive and delicate version on this specific piece. His tone is just fantastic and his respiration absolutely remarkable.

Fagioli has a truly amazing voice and for me he sings this just with perfection
They are all wonderful in their own ways. It’s difficult to pick who’s the best. However, Franco Fagioli drove me to tears.

Oui, c'est un grand chanteur, mais trop occupé à sculpter sa technique, ce qui le rend un peu ennuyeux. Pas pour une écoute quotidienne.

Mais il y a un choix énorme dans sa discographie et ses opéras, du Porpora ou Haendel à Rossini ou Mozart, et avec sa voix il peut tout faire, toujours plus et toujours mieux ! Donc c'est bien le seul que j'écoute avec chaque fois un plaisir différent, une ambiance différente .... Avec un autre je tiens 3 minutes, pas plus : Toujours la même voix, souvent grossière ou faible comparée à la sienne, ornements inexistants ou mal placés....Je me suis fait avoir par O à un moment, c'était par ignorance de la vraie passion et de la pure beauté vocale réinventée à chaque répertoire et non pas ressassée à toutes les occasions qui se présentent . Et Franco est un immense acteur d'exception, étonnant, unique dans ce monde de contre ténors . Son physique très harmonieux se prête à tous les personnage, sa mobilité et sa souplesse sont celles d'un grand sportif....Je le garde !

Mena, des contre-ténors anglais (c'est à cause de leur délicieuse tradition de tels chants), J. J. Orliński ou le désormais délicieux John Holiday. La voix de F. Fagioli, avec sa « cuisine vocale » exposée, avec une stratégie d'interprétation peu claire, ne me captive pas. Tenons-nous en à nos préférences.
La meute choisira toujours ce qui est le plus accessible, donc le plus rassurant . Bon appétit !

David Daniels should be on the list. For me he combines a sultry, macho power with impeccable technique and gorgeous tone. However all these counter tenors are wonderful and we are so lucky to hear them on UTube. There is so much music where they are unbeatable even by the best mezzo.
Händel composed this exactly for Andreas Scholl.
But he did not know about Jakub Józef Orliński. Later he composed some things exactly for Jakub Józef Orliński :-)

Si ma vie en dépendait, et bien que je sois un fana de Andras Scholl depuis des lunes, je choisirais Franco Foglioli pour la rondeur de sa voix et son exécution tout à fait magistrale.

Andreas' voice is the cleanest, nicest and best formed one - but all of them perform wonderfully.
Orlinsky & Scholl have imo a true countertenor sound. Fagioli has the sound of a perfect mezzo woman to me. All perfect. The other two also beautiful. Of course there is Handel to thank.

As a natural contralto it's a real treat to find this singer... The only one l know of at the moment who sounds convincingly like a true alto, not the usual mezzo soprano quality of countertenors I've heard before. Apparently this singer is naturally a bass, most others are baritone.

Mr Mehta has the worst recording. The most beautiful voice has Andreas Scholl, and his technique of singing is fantastic.
But I must say that Jakub Orliński is most romantic in his performance. His delicate vibratos shiver every piece of my heart
Orlinski and Scholl best... They both have that clear, bright and well aimed pitch... They both sing naturally with a deep touch of soul. Fagioli seems to overwhelm with vibrato... On top of that Orlinski's voice remains masculine which is what it should be like in my opinion.
I completely agree with you! I have listened to many performances and Orlinkski is by far the best. Clean, effortless, easy performance.
@@canutillorojo Jakub Orlinski has changed my expectations from the countertenor voice. He proved that it was possible to retain a masculine colour throughout the whole register. I think that Scholl must have been his first inspiration but Jakub went much further in seeking the ways how to retain it. Both Orlinski and Scholl use lots of straight tone which just beautiful and appropriate in Baroque music. They have not drowned in vibrato which may be irritating (to me) when overused... lol
Orlinsky is the only counter tenor who has the warm and dark sound of the Contralto, the quintessential androgyne (this man is a natural bass, most others are baritones with the mezzo soprano sound).
IMO Jakub is the Ascending Maestro....a voice that pierces the soul almost mortally! But why Handel all the time? The melodically haunting Vivaldi is where Jakub wears the crown....but I only ever hear 'Vedro......'! I have begged and pleaded with him to sing 'Souvente il sole' but my entreaties have fallen on deaf ears - alas!!! Max Cencic is the current King of that particular aria (IMO) BUT I would love Jakub to enchant us therein with his golden voice too! We are SOOOO BLESSED to have all these splendid counter-tenors living in our times - heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of them! God bless them all 🌹➕🌹

Orliński is the best.
School is the purest with orlinski minutely behind - but Mehta's extreme coloration is the one that had me almost in tears and it's him emoting I'd rather see live, every time.

It's almost impossible for me to decide between Andreas Scholl and Jakub Orlinski. After much thought, I would have to give Scholl the slight edge, while saying that both of their voices are absolute favorites of mine. Jakub's voice is angelic while Scholl's voice is rich and sublime.
Fascinating to compare the interpretations. Jakub O is totally adorable and talented but in this instance Andreas S's bell-like resonance takes the top spot. With Philippe J we have the richest line-up of countertenors since the age of recordings began. Xx to all.
