Davies est né à York , en Angleterre et a d'abord étudié le piano et la flûte à bec , encadré dans ses premières années par son père Ioan, le violoncelliste fondateur du Fitzwilliam Quartet . Dès l'âge de huit ans, il a chanté en tant que garçon triple dans la chorale du St John's College, Cambridge . Il a commencé à chanter contre-ténor à l'adolescence, à la Wells Cathedral School . Il retourna à St John's comme érudit choral et obtint un diplôme en archéologie et en anthropologie . Il a obtenu son DipRAM et a ensuite été nommé ARAM par la Royal Academy of Music . En 2004, il a remporté le prix du public au London Handel Singing Competition et en 2010, il a été nommé "Jeune artiste de l'année" par la Royal Philharmonic Society .
Le père de Davies, Ioan, était un violoncelliste de longue date du Fitzwilliam Quartet et membre du St. John's College.

A very talented artist, beautiful rendition, but maybe, he made use of too much coloratura, which deviate slightly from the sublime harmonious line created by the composer. Not so in the version of Andrea School, which I must admit prefer,
