@@cantdestroyher7245 eh, two things: 1. Cynthia is infamous - everyone knows her line up. 99% of the reason for her reputation is because of the novel experience of the playerbase who fought against her for the first time when DPPT came out, nobody knew what Pokemon she used because she never showed up until the Champion fight. WTF were Spiritomb and Garchomp? Because of her infamy, people can absolutely prep teams whose primary focus is to counter hers - the competitive edge of her Pokemon is supposed to keep that in check. When people say things like 'oh she wasn't that hard, I just used counters to her team' - well, DUH, you knew what her line up was and already had 90% of the battle in your favor. 2. You are not limited by item usage, withdrawal tactics, baiting her AI, and just plain overleveling your Pokemon. The favor is almost always on our side. She's not impossible to eat - her battle just means using your brains for once instead of going hurr durr flamethrower 30x.
@cainyourkids sure you can cheese with x items etc. or the right build or just use gyarados. My point was about the game's progression and balancing more than the battle itself. Better game design would've given you the tools to build a comparable team to hers somewhat easily, rather than just give you cheese.
i was op for the entire game and I had to use a hail strategy for her Garchomp. I kept reviving my Abomasnow so that its ability could create a hailstorm, then revive all my pokemons as the Garchomp one-shotted them. eventually it died. I feel so ashamed to have won this way
I feel you, but at least you thought of a viable strategy. In my case my Gardevoir traced its Rough Skin and managed to chip away at its HP to about a third - it was completely unintended and I’d originally wanted a Ralts with Synchronise instead because nostalgia (that was what I had in Sapphire version). In the end I survived because friendship - my Lv 70 Garchomp - my only mon left - managed to avoid her dragon claw, which had one-shotted me the first two times. I didn’t even have time to set up Swords Dance, so am pretty sure it wouldn’t have KO-ed with Dragon Claw if it weren’t for Traced Rough Skin. I won but the feeling sucked, it wasn’t an honourable win imo.
I defeated Cynthia back in Platinum by relying on gengar's curse and mamoswine's ice shard, along with a LOT of revives. I felt ashamed to have won like that too, it felt like I'd cheated since NPC's can't revive their pokemon. Oh well.

Literally the same God damn thing happened to me. I thought a I had squeaked out the win and then rough skin popped up and I was ded. Cynthia just built different
Same thing happened to me the first time, lol. I was able to cancel out the Swords Dance and even bring Garchomp’s attack down to like minus 3 by intimidating it with Luxray and Staraptor back and forth… in the end Staraptor was my last Pokemon and I killed Garchomp with Giga Impact, but its rough skin brought me down with it. I can honestly say it’s the first time something like that had happened to me, and also the first time I’ve ever struggled against a champion. I’ve been playing Pokémon since Gen 1, and not once have I ever had my entire team eliminated. Even Cynthia herself back in Gen 4 wasn’t anywhere near this difficult.
Sad thing is he said she doesn't heal well let me tell you something she can and it's bullshit I been stuck on Cynthia for 3 days but I beat her and I yelled so loud out of happiness

Dude I kept reviving my Kricketune over and over hoping Id get a friendship survive so I could perish song. Then, she went for Swords Dance, so i was able to just keep reviving one pokemon until it fainted.
Cynthia's been the greatest challenge in all of my time playing Pokemon. Never have I had to EV train a Pokemon before the post game in series, and it's all because of her Garchomp. That nightmare managed to decimate Pokemon *FIVE LEVELS HIGHER* than herself with ease because of her Jolly nature (-SP ATK +SPD), and max EVs in Attack and Speed. After three defeats and three days, I trained my own Garchomp named Azrael. He was an Impish Nature (-SP ATK +DEF), with EVs heavily put into Attack and Speed, but with 50 points in both defenses. He was two levels lower than Cynthia's Garchomp, and I know Azrael can't outspeed it. My only hope is for him to take a Dragon Claw to the face as he does the same. With both dragons slashing through each other, only one was able to stay standing with HP to spare. That one Dragon Claw had did the trick and defeated the nightmare that was Cynthia's Garchomp.

I fought her so many times and when I finally beat her it was due to extreme luck. It was my Garchomp vs her Garchomp and I was lucky enough to survive the first hit by a single hp and land a bulldoze slowing her Garchomp down. When I beat her I was the happiest man alive
I lost to Cynthia at least a dozen times. I finally had to teach my tentacruel Thief to remove the fire orb off of Milotic. That thing was just too bulky for my team. Still nearly lost and I used hella potions.
Heeeyy I used a similar strat, just with an ursaring! Boosted guts and allowed me to one shot the lucario on the swap in. ^-^ But yeah I agree, even without it, that milotic is a friggin nightmare.

I think the whole team wasn't properly raised or thought out. I only use Torterra, Mismagius, & 2 pickup mons while last 2 slots were use as lvl up fill ins for Pokedex. I didn't even start using Mismagius until I'd reach Iron Island for ev training thru double battles to have decent Defense & Speed before stuffing it with Calcium. I use it to sweep Cynthia's whole team as she has no ghost resist and Spiritomb would spam sucker punch while setting 4x calm mind & it tanked a dragon claw while OHKO Garchomp with Dazzling Gleam.
I’m not sure what happened for me, I led with mismagius against her spiritomb, it kept spamming sucker punch so I went +5 calm mind and then murdered her team with psychic, shadow ball and dazzling gleam
I actually just fought her today and I was so close to losing. She was on her garchomp and I had only one Pokémon left and she kept using earthquake. I luckily had 11 revives and I kept reviving Pokémon until her earthquake ran out and than I one shot her garchomp with dialgas roar of the time. It was my second attempt and it was really scary I thought I’d have to start over
I've got a story to tell you. Out of all the elite fours I've had to deal with, more accurately, this version of DP, has been the most pain in the butt. Never before have I ever had so much trouble with a rival or a champion. But geeze the leveling system in this game is monstrous
I can confidently say my nuzlocke might end with cynthia. I'm trying to level my pokemon up and all I have for her garchomp is my froslass and blissey. Both of which I have set up more for set ups with hail, Aurora veil and stealth rock minimize. I had a garchomp I was training with max evs for speed and attack. But he died to volkner
That literally happened to me. I had Infernape at 1 hp with +3 attack and he used the friendship boost to survive an earthquake and take no damage and one shot it just to die to rough skin. I was so tired after fighting her for hours I got so mad.
Sorry bit of a rant here to the 'Cynthia is so easy crowd', just need to say this. It's pokemon first of all, it's designed to be accessible to children, which means it is not typically ever going to be intentionally as hard as say a souls-like. Honestly you can stall her out in most cases just by typings or abilities (i.e. cycling a fairy and electric type to burn pp on garchomp, a gastrodon or pokemon with dryskin easily stalls milotic but limiting it to icebeam and recovery, etc, etc). And I see more than a few people go 'she's so easy, just stall her out using
So you had to legit PP stall to win? Jesus! They really certified her as the strongest Champion with this. God forbid he learns about the rematch teams for her AND the league because these guys don't fuck around.
His mistake was how many times he swapped, your just giving her free turns, she just whittled his team down...plus forgetting about garchomp's main ability was kinda on him
I lost in this exact way, my last pokemon was mamo and she crit me at -3, i lived on 3 and one shot her with avalanche even with yache. i can't believe throwing snow is considered "making contact"
I had to spam Max and Hyperpotions until her Garchomps Dragonclaw and Earthquake moves were gone leaving it with the poison attack. Don't like that I had to do that but I had a Rhydon to evolve and I was going to get that protector to make him Rhyperior damn it...
Dude same. I swept the elite 4 and and didn't have a single Pokemon KO'd. The her swept my entire team which were all about lvl 65. I thought my Crobat could pull off a quick hit but Chomp was still faster.
I beat her in the most bs way. I had a crazy amount of max potions and revives. I struggle a bit to get through her team but had a decent amount of my team left getting to Garchomp and then obviously it starts one shotting everyone until I'm left with just my Onix, who I had forgotten about it's sturdy ability. I would then use every single turn just using max potion while Garchomp just uses every single move it had until it had nothing left to attack with besides sword dance. Then I revived my whole team and finished off her then literally defenseless Garchomp.
And yet a bunch of reviews complained that the game was just the same thing and way too easy. They clearly didn't even finish the game. Nice to see that Cynthia is way better then her original debut.
I’ll be honest, I accidentally won 2nd try because I was training my team on the elite 4, reached Cynthia and was like “she’s gonna sweep me” but then within 3 turns I got 2 crits and KO’d two of her Pokémon. Milotic was the most difficult one because it’s pretty beefy, and her Lucario has a lot of coverage, but I pulled it off. I sobbed when mid credits the game said “error, application turning off”

To anyone reading this struggling against Cynthia, level up in the big chamber underground from celestic town. There is a guy down there that will heal you and mime, houndoom and girafarig give an actual good amount of experience.
The Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Of course. *stocks up on Senzu beans and Manga* See you in a week. *closes the door.*
Combine that with a lucky egg.
XP wise that's fine but you really wanna be grinding EVs if you can at that point and for that it's the old couple on route 212. The man for attck EVs and the woman for sp attack. Basically they both only give 1 or 2 points respectively but they give so much money, wiht the amulet coin I think it's like 16k per rematch at that point so just do like 5 battles and buy like 8 calciums or proteins or whatever or even carbos for speed that's just the main priority there especially if you haven't been using the pokemon for a long time like if you catch one of the lake spirits just for the elite four which is a really good strat
I was having such a hard time with her, I was able to take her team out reasonably well but as soon as that garchomp comes out it would wipe my whole team. But Gengars Destiny bond saved my butt.

I like how in a relatively equal fight, most people only get by thanks to the "Your Pokemon has a random chance to survive!" mechanic (which I don't actually like, but also it's whatever)
It’s not really equal. She has competitively built Pokémon at a point in the game where you don’t really have the tools to make your own
She has a competitively built team whilst most people have Pokémon with random natures, I’d say the affection actually makes it more fair.
@@cantdestroyher7245 eh, two things:

I did the same thing, man. The exact same fucking thing

I lost to Cynthia at least a dozen times. I finally had to teach my tentacruel Thief to remove the fire orb off of Milotic. That thing was just too bulky for my team. Still nearly lost and I used hella potions.
