The biggest complaint I have is that it's their first time in combat but their wearing second company colors, other than that if they keep their helmets on it isn't bad

Funnily enough as you said that one of them whispered "courage and honor" lol Also a bit of background: The special edition dvd set contained a mini comic that serves as a prequel to the movie. The plot is that prior to the movie, the original ultima squad under captain Severus were all killed battling tyranids on a planet called algol. So, to quickly make up for losses (which leads us to the cast for this movie), captain Severus, and I quote, *"promotes a group of Scouts into full Space Marines to reform Squad Ultima and to make up the small force heading for Mithron."* Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah that's why the smurfs in that movie were acting all hot-headed and such.
The thing that always bothers me about about movies and wh40k stories is that even though they were JUST in combat with the enemy, they still pull their helmets off, like damn guys you were just in contact with chaos space Marines do you think there were inly three of them, like god damn these guys are ultra marines they should be thinking tactically. Don’t get me wrong this movie is still very nice and a lot of people shit on it for the wrong reasons but holy crap I just can’t stand when supposedly superhuman soldiers make extremely stupid errors.
It is an OK film, it has not aged so well but you can tell the effort it was put into the film for his time. I just feel like it could be a lot better (at least visually) whit a quick color rework and weapons properly scaled
So after watching it all the way through and reading some other comments I can confirm the captain was an idiot as apparently he lost his squad to the nids and decided to promote scouts ahead of schedule to compensate hence the new bloods behavior.

Concerning the younger Ultramarine's behavior, it would have made more sense if they were a Scout Company. Then their bravado and gung-ho attitudes could be excused.

If this had been done by an independent creator it would have been amazing. Unfortunately it was an actual official GW production with Dan Abnett writing the screenplay. And having some top of the line British (and I'm talking Shakespearean here in some cases) actors voicing it. Means that it has to be held to a higher standard of consistency to the Lore and well everything else really.After all you don't hold a school play to the same standards as a Broadway production but the reverse is also true. And by those standards this film was kinda meh and forgettable. Which unless you are talking about the Tau are words you never want to associate with 40k.

Hell, "First time in combat" should be scout company or at absolute minimum Devastator company. And it's not like it's some codex divergent chapter.

This movie came out when 5th Editions was still in use, so it's basing it off that and not the current lore.
Whoever greenlit John Hurt yelling, "BURN HERETICS!!!" deserves a promotion.
