Did Magnus even *hear* the request for parley? He did turn off all the defenses and sensors because he was expecting someone to come arrest him and didn't want his sons to beat the shit out of them. Probably would've been a better idea to *tell* his sons that someone was coming and to not shoot on sight, but terrible communication skills run in the family.
