I managed to not cry, until the gold pipes were put in place 😢😀. That is the organ that when I walked into the cathedral just over 4 weeks ago at 8 am was waiting for its big move. The front was padlocked and a sign was placed warning the congregation and visitors that ‘Organ Removal’ was scheduled. We all said that week what Nick said so eloquently today. What a privilege to be involved and amazing to have the opportunity to get so close to a historic pipe organ. Thank you, Father Paul for emailing Billy ❤. Sounds like next week will be even more interesting. Everyone - get plenty of rest this weekend. Billy - we look forward to seeing you again on Monday.

It really brought a tear to my eyes when I saw the gold pipes standing so majestically in place. It blows my mind to think of the history & life behind this great organ. I am sure the nun’s are looking down on the Convent Chapel with smiles on their faces & glee in their hearts. 💕 I cannot wait till Monday to watch more of this amazing feat….. Pipe organs reach waaaaaaay back into Antiquity. They were already in existence well before 2000 B.C., but were used for large gatherings at places similar to the Circus Maximus, Amphitheaters and other public gathering spots. Their lungs were called the hydraulus and were powered by water. They were probably very loud and did not have the myriad subtilty that modern instruments have. One of the first reports of an Organ in a Cathedral or Church finds an instrument of tremendous power installed in Soissons Cathedral around the year 660. It operated on a system we now call the "blockwerk" which was basically many pipes of differing pitches all playing at once. There was no way to have one single row of pipes play. The subsequent invention of "Stops" was giving the organist the luxury of "stopping" the sound of the other rows of pipes to showcase only those left "open". Exactly the opposite of todays instruments in which the name "Stop" was retained to describe the Length or "pitch" of the lowest playable pipe, the timbre, the scale or circumference of the pipe, the material that it is made from such as "Holz/wood" "Metaal or tin/lead mix" . The shape of the pipe Square, Round, Chimneyed, capped, stopped, triangular, etc., which all plays a part in the particular way a set or row of pipes is perceived. In essence a "Stop" is basically one or more rows of pipes that have similar characteristics both physically and aurally throughout their entire compass. A "Stop" can be engaged or disengaged by the organist at will, to satisfy the requirements in the music.

Your comment got me curious so I looked it up. “ engineer Ctesibius of Alexandria
The Greek engineer Ctesibius of Alexandria is credited with inventing the organ in the 3rd century BC. He devised an instrument called the hydraulis, which delivered a wind supply maintained through water pressure to a set of pipes. The hydraulis was played in the arenas of the Roman Empire.” Just amazing it was that long ago! Learn something new everyday!

What an accomplishment in such a short time! Excellently done everyone! Michael, Nick and Mr Petherick aka the Dad, Yannis, Billy, Ryan...everyone behind the scenes who contribute with time and effort - what an amazing work! I'm sure father Paul is watching you with the rest of us, pleased and perhaps slightly moved with your accomplishment, dedication and passion. I'm sure the day he will be reunited with this majestic instrument once again, will come soon.Once he is there, with Simon and Alex who are also soon to come, what an incredible holidays those will be!
Organs look absolutely stunning in the chapel, they look like they belong there! What an amazing, humbling experience. Could it all be coincidental stream of events that led to this? Perhaps. Perhaps it much more than that. It's beautiful and utterly humbling. Can't wait to hear the first sound and looking forward to holidays with sense of serenity and warmth in my heart.

There were times in this video when one could have thought those two were some kind of mad musical time travelers transported into the new millennium, trying to get home. I loved the music too, Billy. 🧡
