  • Garen and Ellie finish up organizing and converting the shed into a workshop for all their future projects. Gary continues to feel better and decides to jump in and finish the lingering last cabinet door for our earthbag kitchen. We get a visit from Grandma & Grandpa and they share a traditional Norwegian dumpling meal with all of us. Happy Thanksgiving to You and your family! We are very thankful you are part of the MyLittleHomestead family :)

I've been watching this family since 3,500 subs... Garen is in awe of that woman. She's the best friend that he fell in love with. His respect for her is written all over his face. If I could custom order a fella for my only daughter... Although she's married to a genuinely wonderful, loving, caring, happy and good-hearted young man... Then I would want her to know the same kind of respect that Garen holds in his heart for Ellie.
To be a little too honest about things... Had I known then what I know now... I would have listened to my friends when they told me to ignore the wild-child that moved herself into my life. Save my one great blessing in life, my daughter, the rest of the relationship turned into a non-stop argument about 'more'. With no intention of her contributing to the cause.

I loved watching the Norwegian "dumpling"! I've never heard of it being called a "dumpling", so I was very confused at first.
It somehow felt very "at home" for me, being a Norwegian who eats this a fair amount in a year.
My parents learned how to make it from their parents, who in turn learned it from their own parents!
We call it Kompe where I live in Norway, although it has a variety of different names.
We tend to add bacon in the middle, to add a bit of a savory taste. I also really enjoy adding sugar on it, while my sisters all prefer salt!
Thank you for making my day and also for making me come out of my little hiding hole to actually write something. I don't do this very often.

      @becauseitscookies 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You could even make the kompe(I wrote this before hearing that "Grandma" said it was called Komle, which is also true) without any meat inside and just have it on the side! SUPER tasty!

Good morning family! Yes to podcast and video tips...I'm thinking about vlogging for my granddaughters whom I never get to see. The boots kick butt, and Gary doing that last cabinet door was very symbolic...the family gathered at the table is so sweet I got choked up. It's just me now, and my grown sons have their own lives, so I warm myself with memories of growing up in my big Italian family. Oh the days of cooking with Gommie (Granny) and Mom and my cousins. We would cook for days, and I always got to set the table. The stories my Paw-Paw would tell after dinner at the table about the old days, was better than dessert. So, Happy Thanksgiving to my extended earthbag family, and everyone in the comments who feel like family too, and to my heavenly family! I hope heaven has a huge kitchen we can ALL gather and cook together in! Love and Joy! See you next time!

Before my grandma passed away, we went to see her and asked her to help us learn her pie crust recipe. We wrote down her recipe, including all her tips and little superstitions, for posterity and made about 8 pies for a family reunion.
If there's a special recipe that anyone in your family makes, I urge you to go to them and work with them to make it a few times. The recipe is important, but the time and the memory is what is truly important. For Grandma, she was the matriarch that kept things running in the farmhouse - harvest meals, breakfasts, lunches in the field, and altar society dinners (usually funerals in the community). She was never the focus of much attention in her life, least of which around someone needing a recipe from her, and I think she glowed from the attention around the pie crust recipe for a month.
Good on y'all for making the time and getting to know part of your heritage, recent or ancient, through a meal.

Yes and yes to both of your questions!!! Number one, it's great to see you, Gary, REALLY back!! Really back too normal, really back th to yourself.
Garen and Ellie, you are doing great at building a workshop. That skill you have if taking things apart and putting them together again, Garen, is a lucrative one in that you may run across many things people are done with that you can get for free. Just keep your eyes open! Ellie, it's hard to believe the baby will be here in two months. I guess time flies.....☺
Grandma's boots were stunning, absolutely gorgeous. I would try it myself because I used to be creative, but I have a tremor now so we can skip that!😂
Girls of great artisticness where is your unmarried brother this week?
And last of all, I am also a Swede, and we did eat lutefisk and lefsa on Christmas eve. My mom made it and brought it to off house every year but ultimately, it just didn't stick. It's preference over tradition my five twenty something children had voted privately. Well, their father and I are for the first time ever going to a restaurant for Thanksgiving.☺We will make it an adventure and a warm up for Christmas where we won't have to eat lutefisk!!!!!!Happy Thanksgiving!!!!! I'm thankful for you!!! 💓💛💚💙💜

Hello family. I have not been a follower for such a long time, but i think i have been looking over 100 Peeks. It has been nice to follow you from the first moment. The daily life, and all the project you have. The different seasons, and the life`s mysteries og life and things that change our daily routine , as when you got cancer Gary. It change a holde family, and its great of you to show it on Internet. I hope you feel better day by day. this episode Grandma is there to cook. I get surprised because this is food i know well. This is how my grandma use to stay, and make "dumplings" for my family. It was always a special time to stay out in the kitchen with her, and learn to make food. I come from Norway, and i did not know that you have Norwegian and Swedish relatives. I look forward to follow your episode in the future, and i will thank you for making this every week. Best wishes from Jan in Norway
