UEC MTB EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS highlights - MEN Elite XCO. A muddy race: supporter's POV

Inhuman conditions this year at the UEC MTB European Championships. Here are the MEN Elite XCO race highlights as seen from the side of the track. The event was held on 12.05.2024 in Romania, at the Cheile Gradistei mountain sports resort. It rained all day and the track was really technical with the additional slippery conditions. 5 degrees Celsius. Some riders came back at the end freezing.
The best elite riders in the world battled for the title of European XCO mountainbike Champion. The Big favourite, Simon Andreassen had a flat tire while leading the race. He fought back and ended in second place.
The winner was a big surprize: the italian rider Simone Avondetto.
Third spot on the podium for the german Julian Schelb.
The local favourite, the Romanian rider Vlad Dascalu, took 14'th place.

Very unlucky for Simon Andreassen but great that he still got second.

probably he would won it without the flat tyre... but on the other hand, he didn't managed to reduce at all the time difference to Avondetto in the last 3 laps.

True, but getting a puncture is often the riders fault for failing to nurse the tyres through rough sections.
