@@randywoodward9707 yea. I'm 16 and I have a 1975 cutlass that I got when I was in 7th grade. Couple years later and now I'm an Oldsmobile guy for life
Wow...what memories this brings back. I am a diehard Pontiac Guy....but during one of the Missouri winters (1983-84 winter I think it was) while I was doing a full restoration on my 1971 455HO Lucerne Blue Trans Am and needing a "Winter Beater" to drive to work....I bought this exact same color Olds 442...Mine was a 1976, had the swivel front buckets, Hurst Hatches (T-tops) and was a 455, automatic car. (I wish I knew then how rare of a car it was...I may have kept it). I actually found it in the "Cars Under $500" section of the Tradin' Times! It had less than 75K miles on it, but had sat for about a year and needed a new battery, fresh gas and both front and rear transmission seals replaced because they had dry rotted from the car sitting. I paid $400 cash for it, put my T/A's battery in it, siphoned out about a half tank of old varnished gas and put 5 gallons of fresh gas and gas treatment in....poured 5 qts of Trans fluid in it and it fired right up....and I drove it the 35+ miles home.....having to pull over and add 2 or 3 quarts of tranny fluid about every 10 miles or so. I really loved that car as for a Street Racing, Hot Rodding teenager....that car was "Class"! It had working A/C, power windows and locks, swivel and reclining front bucket seats, nice factory stereo, cruise control, tilt wheel and power steering,....all the things an early 1980's teenaged Street Rodder removed from their hot rod to "go faster"! 😉 And it greatest assest for a young guy....had a large back seat area! And being I was still living at home with my parents back then....I definitely peeled several pairs of panties off young hot teenaged girls in that back seat! 😁 (Had one bad incident that left a permanent "red" stain in that beautiful white interior that I never could explain 😏). If you guys think about selling this one of your Dad's, contact me with your location and how much you want for it.....I would be interested!
I had three, 1974,1976 and 1977. I had the 76 for 38 years. I bought it in Mobile Alabama on Government Blv. Loved that car. Had over 500 thousands miles on two rebuilds.
I believe this one to be a 76 by the grill and side rear windows. I had a 77 Cutlass Supreme and both were different the grill here seems more 76 style. My Rear bumper rusted off too. ✌
My first car was a 1977 Olds 442 - Red - the darker red not the bright cherry red. Put a Holly 4 barrel in it and a buddy of mine upgraded the exhaust. I used to watch the gas needle go down when racing up a local back road. LOVED that car.
You would have to be an Oldsmobile man like myself, that would make a great restoration project you can build the engine to whatever HP you want, beautiful car 😁
Wow, I bought a 77 442 back in 1979 in st. clair shores Mich. 12,000 miles for $3999. Pretty much a cutlass with decals on it. I wound up putting an old W31 replica cam in it, headers, a holly street dominator intake, 600 vac secondary carb and a very much needed 4.10 gear to replace the super tall 2.41. Last item was a vega 10" torque converter from the local junk yard for $45. 8.5 compression 350 with sticky mickeys and open headers wound up running a best of 13.87 at 98 mph back in 1981. Not all that quick by today's standards but in 1981, that was fairly quick. I put a 66 Olds 425 in the car in 1983 ...what a torque monster. Sold it in 87 and bought an 86 442, put a 68 Olds 350 in that car a year later. 44 years of messing with Olds engines. I still have that 86 442. Your 77 looks good for sitting all that time. Really brings back memories.
I had a yellow and tan 77 442 when I was 17, my dad had the tan part sprayed black as a Christmas gift, but without the 442 on the doors, just the trunk. I went everywhere in that car, sold it in 87 and 35 years later I still miss mine.
What an amazing blast from the past. Awesome car. The white letter tires were typical for car like that back in ‘77. I had a ‘74 camaro with white letter tires back in ‘75 and it looked great. You just don’t see the white letter tires anymore. Black wall tires however would kill the look of this beauty. The neighbor’s camaro rally sport is also a fantastic classic. That one was actually my college dream car.
Andy....You might have saw me in mine! We are the same age and I grew up in St. Ann....I worked at the Amoco in Clayton in 1983-1985 and dated a girl that lived just off Brentwood Blvd in Richmond Heights! I left Missouri over 20 years ago and moved down here just outside of Daytona Beach Florida! (NO I do not miss St. Louis winters! 😉) I had a 1976 the exact same blue w/white as this one! Raised in the back, limo tint windows, and Hurst T-tops.
I remember being a small kid sitting on my aunt's lap in the passenger seat of my mom's 442 and getting in a wreck and breaking the windshield with my head...the good ole days
Same as my first car back in 1983, but my 1976 had black dash and console with white swivel buckets and a white vinyl top. First day I got my license I was cruising to Iron Maiden's The Trooper not disco lol. Color is a bit dark and trunk vinyl 442 emblem is missing. I regretted selling it and bought a 1977 in firethorn with white stripes and a red interior. I am always keeping my eye open for another one, so if your Dad wants to let it go let me know.
Great story. Thanks for sharing. I was born in 1966; watching you young lads cleaning up this old girl while listening to Bee Gees was...emotional. Opinion: assuming the chassis on this Olds is still solid, this car is ABSOLUTELY worth restoring. I personally would keep her stock, have engine rebuilt if necessary (keep numbers matching) and I would put a custom stainless exhaust on her with high-flow catalytics. I would also delete the EGR and maybe beef up rear suspension with some heavier leafs. Advice I'm giving you is sound from an investment standpoint. Oldsmobiles are becoming scarce, can ONLY increase in value. Have fun guys. Be safe. Cheers.
Thanks for watching and the advice the frame is solid, and we plan on restoring it in the future but well start with just little steps at a time. We plan on keeping the original motor and doing the stuff your talking about eventally.
This 442 needs to be restored to working condition ASAP. I think your father would love to drive his old car again ONE LAST TIME. I'm sure it would bring back fond memories for him as a young man. I know for sure it would put a smile on his face.
Super. This is the same year 442 that I once had. Bought it cheap without any exhaust or brakes. It had a 403' engine. It was yellow with black stripes. I even bought and rebuilt a Olds 455 and dropped it in. For a Michigan car, yes the rear quarter panels were rusted. But, Just after I rebuilt the 455 and broke it in, I had to sell it as I moved out west for a while. Man, I have missed that car forever.
If it wasn't for people like this then these old fashioned cars pickups semis tractors and cars wouldn't have a better live but people like this are fixing old vehicles and that makes me really happy.
It's identical to the one my brother bought off of a used car lot in 1979. Not much for acceleration due to the smog 350 and light gears in the back, but it was a very nice road car and actually got good fuel mileage on a road trip. I bought a '75 4-4-2 out of a guy's yard cheap because it needed "major engine work " (according to the seller)...it turned out to be a distributor cap with three carbon tracks in it! Ten bucks fixed that.
yeah, I've been hearing a lot of stories from previous owners. sounds like these were fairly solid cars. hope that's still the case when were done with this one.
I'd be willing to bet your Dads gonna really enjoy seeing his 442 come back to life. Especially since his son has taken an interest in it. If you can, take the time to include him in the process. It's memories for both of you. Looking forward to seeing the next video...
What a beauty! Drop dead stunning! I lived through the era, much is made of the emission controls reducing engine power. How about the fact that todays SUV's and Vans all look the same? Like a Jelly Bean about to give birth. I'd love to have this cool stylish car in my yard in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
I appreciate the comment. and yes, I agree that all these SUVs are just way too ugly nowadays. we never had someone comment from Nova Scotia. I hope you have a great day.
When my brother left home to serve , he left me his 442 Oldsmobile . Sadly it was stolen my first day on my new job. Years later during a drought it was found at the bottom of what was a lake just twenty minutes from our childhood home. Car was a bit powerful for me but I loved it. Vroom vroom
YOU KNOW, A FEW CHOICE SPEED PARTS WILL wake that up. Those mid 70s Olds 350s had 8.5 to 1, needs to be raised.Earlier pre style 71 pistons would raise compression up, so adjusting what cam you get with Rhoads lifters needs to pay attension to during cam selection. A set of Rhoads lifters and a 230 duration @ .050s cam would be great. Also, GM always screwed up their exhaust systems on their cars.I want to know what are your engine plans in this. It probably got 2.41 axle gearing, I would look at 3.42 gearing swap from Summit Racing.

I actually know where 2 of those are in a junkyard here in NC...one is a '76-'77, the other is a '75 with the Hurst W30 package (I cut the hood apart for another project). The Camaro is cool
Came within 1 phone call of owning that same car in '90-91-ish in Houston TX but it had rust holes size of which you could pass a jelly donut thru. Parents talked me out of it...good.on them!
I had a 77 Cutlass, same color and white interior. It had white bottom stripes but no 442. It had a 350, 2 barrel with single exhaust. So I never checked vin to see if it was 442. This was in 1986. I really liked it but the motor went.
I had a Chevy Laguna with the swivel buckets about the same year as your 4 4 2 and I really liked them because it kept me from getting runs in my nylons and yes , I'm a guy .
i remember when they cars were new. here in the rust belt they lasted about 3 years before there was giant holes in the quarters. the mid 70's were a sucky time for car quality.
That's a pretty cool and rare car nowadays. All orig $$$!!! Just don't see them anywhere no more! I can't imagine how rare it is to find that white interior! i had a 78 Pontiac grand lemans 2dr landau top, all white interior green exterior buckets & console car. They're Rarer than hens teeth and had a guy come 12 hrs to buy the buckets. he said it was the first time in 20-25 years he'd seen any.
Had 1976 Cutlass. Ended up with a 69 455 out of a Delta 88. Junkyard manifold, Q jet, distributor out of 76. Headers. Kept the highway gears. Torque made up for it. Hard to touch on a roll start..
Very pretty color combo. I always liked these but unfortunately underpowered. Still, a great cruiser. I stand corrected, but the original 4-4-2's stood for 400 (cu.in.), 4-speed, and dual exhaust. Then, when later 455's were also used (and auto trans was offered), it stood for 400 or 455, 4-barrel, dual exhaust. In the 1977 form, it was undoubtedly a trim and wheel SE package.
@@myleslong5584 All the muscle cars are trim packages. The factories just decided to call them a different “model”. Of course they usually had a bigger engine standard.
I found a 1970 Buick GSX in a garage with only 50 miles on it . The old guy just needed the space to raise chicken's. I got it for 500 bucks and a rooster.
FYI: Swivel buckets we not an option in 1977 Oldsmobiles. You could get them in Monte Carlos on 77, but not Cutlass. Oldsmobile had this option from 1973-76. The colour is also from 1976. Great looking car though
Great car and great video! 2 things though... when you kicked out the wood brace I thought the whole garage was gonna come down. It looks built before cars were invented. and.... when the car is rolling backward towards the camera with no one in it I thought there was going to be a calamity. glad none of that happened. oh, and replace the baling wire with real bumper brackets you do not want that thing coming off on the highway. ok that was three things sorry, great car!
442 Oldsmobile...four barrel, four on the floor and duel exhaust hence the 442. Pontiac had their GTO. Chevy has their Supersport Chevelle and Malibu. The Oldsmobile had the 442.
“Actually its 4-4-2” 🤓
Actually, it’s a 76 cutless😮
It don't matter that they say it wrong. I'm just impressed that these kids show interest in it

No, the original 4-4-2 stood for 4-speed, 4 barrel, 2 exhaust. In 1965 it went to 400, 4 barrel, 2 exhaust

And after the 1971 model, the 4-4-2 was an option pkg on the Cutlass, not a separate model. So,yes…it’s,basically,a trim pkg.
@@myleslong5584 All the muscle cars are trim packages. The factories just decided to call them a different “model”. Of course they usually had a bigger engine standard.
Olds 442 fan man here.
Oldsmobile 💯💯💯💯💯😍😍😍😍
Always liked the Oldsmobiles
Love that Oldsmobile!
That 4-4-2 looks dope!
I had a 1976 Olds Cutlass S, those were class style
Nice ride. New Sub. I'll check out your older vids.
Thanks man! I appreciate it
Play that funky 🎶 Wild Cherry😁
2:43 yeah I think you got it. 😂
I had a 75 love those cars.
My grandpa had a 442, it was called the silver bullet, it was spray painted silver and kinda sketchy, according to my mom.
Very cool!!!! 👍👍
Thanks man!
@@maddenmadness 👍
Put some good old GM HP in that 442 make it a monster. Stock exterior beef up everything else!
Wish i couldnt have done somthing like this with my dad .. deff dope
I knew a guy that had a 260 in a Cutlass like that. Damn… was it slow! 😀
I found a 1970 Buick GSX in a garage with only 50 miles on it . The old guy just needed the space to raise chicken's. I got it for 500 bucks and a rooster.
love it!
suuuure
I love Oldsmobiles I have a 75 that I’m putting together
You got into that car completely disregarding the movie Christine you were lucky.
Back bumpers rusted off those 30+ years ago, so the bailing wire was no surprise.
That could be very cool fixed up with suspension upgrades/lower stance and tuck the bumpers in tighter + Engine upgrades
6:30 it's a damn Camaro... what a car!
Camaro Rally Sport
So it goes from a barn to a barn! Well at least it's clean again!
yeah, and at least this one wont fall apart on top of it.
Amazing car 👍
Шикарная тачка!🙂👍👍👍
спасибо
FYI: Swivel buckets we not an option in 1977 Oldsmobiles. You could get them in Monte Carlos on 77, but not Cutlass. Oldsmobile had this option from 1973-76. The colour is also from 1976. Great looking car though
Niceeeee car , I've all ways loved the 442s
Great car and great video!
2 things though...
when you kicked out the wood
brace I thought the whole garage was gonna come down. It looks built before cars were invented.
and....
when the car is rolling backward towards the camera with no one in it I thought there was going to be a calamity. glad none of that happened.
oh, and replace the baling wire with real bumper brackets you do not want that thing coming off on the highway. ok that was three things
sorry, great car!
thanks for watching, appreciate the respectful advice.
Nice ride! Good save too!
I love the tires!
If my memory is correct I believe that the swivel seats came from Monte Carlo options. Sure cleaned up nicely.
They were an option for the Cutlass as well
Swivel seats were a GM option not just Montes. Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Buick, Chevy, even some GMC.
like to see more videos of this car to see if it needs any work done to it..and getting it to start
442 Oldsmobile...four barrel, four on the floor and duel exhaust hence the 442. Pontiac had their GTO. Chevy has their Supersport Chevelle and Malibu. The Oldsmobile had the 442.
My first car was a 1976 442 same color as this one and it had white swivel bucket seats!
I love swivel buckets. I'm glad we got some for the future.
Nice ride. I also like that Camaro next.
