I own a 69 GTS so I'm a Dart snob. Chrysler made things super easy to identify what you have. He said he knew it was a 1971 model. Dart swinger 340s were only produced in 1969 and 1970. Dual scoops and bumble stripe means it is a "clone" or "tribute" of some kind. Some 340 Dart Swingers were produced for the Canadian market in 1971 so that can't be completely ruled out until you look at VIN and fender tag. Best case scenario: you have a nice, low mileage 318 dart with (maybe) a transplanted 340 or 360. nice car but obviously they don't know anything about mopars.

Unlike a lot of other people on here I think the 18,000 recorded miles is right. The interiors on those don't seem to have been particularly high quality and the white ones in particular tended to get very tatty very quickly but that one still looks really good which would suggest low mileage. Another factor that suggests the recorded mileage is the fact that the digits on the odometer line up well, on vehicles that have been round the clock, i.e. have done over 100,000 miles on a 5-digit odometer the digits rarely line up nicely due to wear in the mechanism. The fact that this one does line up so well suggests that the recorded miles are right, though that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the original odometer, it may have been replaced at some time so it's showing original miles on that particular odometer. But, based on the condition of the interior and the general state of the body, which is pin straight, other than the area that has been repaired, which would be unusual on one of these with higher miles on it as they were pretty renowned for rusting horribly even in good climates, so I'd say it genuinely is that low a mileage. I suspect it might have been a grandma/grandpa car that wasn't used much and that the person gave up driving after bashing the rear quarter, then someone bought it to make something fun out of but the project stalled and it ended up as the story shows. It's certainly a cool, fun old car even if it isn't an original 340 car...

I can't believe old guys like this didn't remember that Chrysler products had a tab on the bottom of the steering column to release the key. I hope somebody who knows what they're doing ends up with this car before it's damaged any further.
That was for floor shift cars. Column shift cars, just turn the key. If the wheel was locked it would bind on the switch, turn the wheel a bit right or left to relieve the pressure on the lock
@oliverthecat666 Try not to be so stupid going into the new year....go search the internet while you are on here....e-bay would be a good start....or even videos on here about how you remove an ignition tumbler on that year mopar. It might be educational while you "know it alls" are talking smack about ole guys on here that have probably forgotten more than you've learned thus far in life. 71 Dart swinger 340 was only available in Canada, engine size is stamped in the block right below driver side cylinder head on the front, might be a 340 swap.
I'm pretty sure the 71 swingers were available with 340 in the US as well. If it's a Canadia car built in Detroit it will have a made in USA export tag on the radiator support.
@@jbmopar1971 All 340 Swingers were built in Windsor, ON. 70s were sold in US & Canada, special small batch runs were built in 71 & 72 for a couple of dealers in Winnipeg and Edmonton
When I first told him on the phone he said no that the guy said it was a 340, then I told him the engine code is correct he agreed. Of course, those 318-powered Darts are real popular to modify with a 340.
The next time my grandson can't fall asleep I'm going to play the second half of this video for him. Listening to that narration oughta knock him right out.
I had a ‘69 Dart. 340. This was back in the 80’s. I drove it from Seattle to just into Idaho where it threw a rod. It was a fun car up to that point. After that it wasn’t much fun.

They think it's a real muscle car! In fact several people had a new one just like it! Same color and all!
louis fisk rubbing the paint is the least of the worries. You obviously have never restored an older vehicle. Its going to need full body and paint to even come close to being factory.
@@billypoe5217 I had a '67, and a '69 Dart as well as a '70 Charger and none of them had a button to release the key. Most likely the key was put in the wrong way and got jammed.
I was thinking the same thing, Louis. At least when he put the rear seat on the roof he set it upside-down and not with the steel brackets digging into and cutting the vinyl roof.
Well son , That paint isn't like the paint today. Or the metal for that matter, go sit on a new cars hood.(dent and scratch w/ease) sit on a 50-70's car,(Nothing)
Why would you rub the dirt off and write your name in it. Poor thing is gonna be scratched up. Hint if the key won't come out stop get some spray lubricant...duh
My first car was a 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger bought for $1,200 in 1996. My brother and I put a rebuilt engine in it, repaired some fuel lines, and I took to college my senior year. It was awesome! It was light blue with a white faux vinyl roof. It was lost in a major flood during hurricane Floyd in 1999.
It a Dodge Dart! The way it looks your half way there to getting it restord. The Dart has a V8 in it, now that's a project to have and work on it with delight.
...try 218! its probably a 340...but most probably a propped up 318 2 v! Yeah pressure wash that interior real good! Make sure to get those speaker grills!
Hahaha I grew up in junkyards. Every single Sunday, me and my cousins would go run around the yard a scrounge the new cars that just came in during the week. We’d come back with pockets full of filthy dirty change and trinkets. The occasional piece of Jewelry or something shiny. Hahahaha good lord those are some of the best memories of my childhood!! My cousin and I would always get in trouble for like locking our younger cousins inside of cars. After I went to work there at the age of 14. The junkyard lost all of its mystery and magic. That’s why four years later I left the land of grease and gas and stuff that doesn’t wash off. To become a carpenter and work with wood. I never looked back. Now I’m a 48 year old framer and life is just a little bit cleaner.
The CID is also stamped on the front of the block on the left side(I believe) on Mopar small block V8's . The instrument cluster is also a give away . the gauges would most likely have been round if it was a 340. I would venture to say if you took a look at the rear end and found a 7 Inch rear end in it that would be a give away that its not a 340 as well. Still factory Hemi orange, is a less common color on a grocery getter Dart. Not a muscle car or anything super rare but its still a classic. Too bad about the rear 1/4 panel.
Kenneth Law well seeing that the paint is far from gone on 90% of the vehicle I can guarantee the name in dust on the hood etched the clear. Second you don't pressure wash vinyl door panels on 1 off vehicles. These guys are lazy, restorations take time and care without shortcuts.
@@Avicados well first off, the whole car is going to have to be a repaint. The quarter was replaced, the truck is missing paint all over it. Next if you see the when he hit the vinyl door panels he hit them lightly and he wiped them dry right away. As you say it's vinyl not leather. What the hell do you think boat interiors were made out of for years? I have had more cars then most people will ever own. You don't have to tell me anything about cars. But I garuntee him brushing the dust of that paint didn't hurt anything. I would be more concerned about all the dumb asses down south that run around or leave the air cleaner off all the time

A total of 0(zero) 1971 Dart Swinger 340's were produced in/for the U.S.A.
That car is super clean!! Great find
I had a real 1970 Swinger. 340 six pack. Really fun car. Like a fool I didn't know what I had. Sold it cheap
Dodge did make a 1970 Dart Swinger 340...but ZERO came with sixpack from the factory. It still sounds like you had a nice car though.
Only mopars that came with 340 sixpacks were the 70'AAR cuda' and the 70'T/A challenger someone put that sixpack on yours, I have an original 70'swinger 340 4spd.
Had a 70 Dart Swinger 340 , 727 auto with 3:91 posi. Went overseas in 86 an within a year my Dad sold it for almost nothing! Still love my Dad, may he rest in peace, but I have always hated the fact he
sold my Dart.....
I ordered and got a 1969 340
6 pack dart convertible from Central Dodge in Springfield Mo and still own it to this day . My wife peferd the Challenger in 1970 440 6 pack which we still have as well, little back window over head console Dana rear.
Grandkids don't know why they can't have them, their parents have told them they never understood why they didn't get them.
Zane Turner , no you didn't. SixPac was never an option on a dart.
That's a pretty good paint job to be in that good of shape and come back clean that easily
its a 1971 dodge dart swinger most of them came with a 318 engine but a few had the 340 from looking at the speedometer its a factory 318 car my husband loves dodge cars very few swingers came out with the 340 engine if that car has one your very lucky its still a great find either way
The owner is the most unassuming guy... "you got a couple '30s Harleys and mint Packard Woody on racks"... the guy "uh ummm..." lol.
You are correct.
the cleaning part was so satisfying
12:33 You’re like the Indiana Jones of cars! Another great find.
Well your just as big a dumb ass as them then....because there is no button on the bottom that you speak of on a mopar....dipshit.
Could very well have put it in upside down, if memory serves correct they only went in one way, but it was opposite to the other manufacturers.
You wont find one key release on any mopar ever that had a column shifted automatic..... like this car in the video. ever......go look.
@oliverthecat666 Hey....maybe that "race engine" you think you see there....has a 3/4 race cam too.....ya think ??......blahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
When he was jurking around with the key I would of told him to get out and never come back
71 Dart swinger 340 was only available in Canada, engine size is stamped in the block right below driver side cylinder head on the front, might be a 340 swap.
Correct, I believe two dealers pushed Chrysler to build them some 340 Swingers.
I'm pretty sure the 71 swingers were available with 340 in the US as well. If it's a Canadia car built in Detroit it will have a made in USA export tag on the radiator support.
72 was the Canada only 340 Swingers - not many of them made
Jerry Heasley 1971 340 swingers were only avail in Canada. Edmonton and Regina Dealer specially ordered 50 each. Only 100 built.
@@jbmopar1971 All 340 Swingers were built in Windsor, ON. 70s were sold in US & Canada, special small batch runs were built in 71 & 72 for a couple of dealers in Winnipeg and Edmonton
It was soooo satisfying watching him power wash that little gem. Kinda like ..."automotive after-glow" hehehe.
Nice that he warmed up to you documenting it after a while, thought he was about to tell you to shove off !
When I first told him on the phone he said no that the guy said it was a 340, then I told him the engine code is correct he agreed. Of course, those 318-powered Darts are real popular to modify with a 340.
Stroke and bore the 318. You will end up with more ci than a 340 and you will still retain a numbers matching car.
I knew it was a swinger right away. I'm not even a Dodge guy. I have buddies that would love that car.
Lisa - The name of the song is Mariachiando and I believe it is by Doug Maxwell/Jimmy Fontanez. I used it with permission from TH-cam for this video.
The next time my grandson can't fall asleep I'm going to play the second half of this video for him. Listening to that narration oughta knock him right out.
What about the first half?
Demon came in duster body style, knew it wasn't a demon as soon as I saw it.
Not that special of a car.
Except that would be easy to restore.
I had a ‘69 Dart. 340. This was back in the 80’s. I drove it from Seattle to just into Idaho where it threw a rod. It was a fun car up to that point. After that it wasn’t much fun.
So much cringe in this video.....
Love that paint color!
As soon as I saw the hoodscoop's I said to myself "Dart Swinger." Also I was a Mopar parts counterman for a "few" years.
I have a 77 Monaco coupe with a 360 and I got a reproduction wing for the deck lid and a Duster/ Demon hood scoop and put them on it along with Chinese made Super Bee and Scat Pack emblems and people go crazy over it! They think it's a real muscle car! In fact several people had a new one just like it! Same color and all!
Who was the dummy rubbing the dust off the rear quarter panel, great way to keep the finish
Savages, everytime they wipe the paint the dirt is scratching the original paint. Take it out of the barn and hose it off 1st. Wtf..
louis fisk rubbing the paint is the least of the worries. You obviously have never restored an older vehicle. Its going to need full body and paint to even come close to being factory.
Tell me about it they broke the key because darts had a button on top of the steering column that you have to push to release the key
I absolutely love this video..Thank you!!
When he opened that trunk, I was expecting to see Jimmy Hoffa.
I used to take my son to Mr. Gatties for games and pizza back when I lived in Amarillo, its what those coins are for.
"we broke the key" ,, he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near any car,
Haha yeah, they are truly not the biggest, or the brightest geniuses, lol
If you go up in the comment section somebody says there's a tab that allows the key come out
These "muscle cars" can be tricky.
Just yanking on the key cylinder like that was making me cringe .
They...broke...the key. My head...
It a Dodge Dart! The way it looks your half way there to getting it restord. The Dart has a V8 in it, now that's a project to have and work on it with delight.
Sounds like someone sells “Propane and Propane accessories”.
RC ANDERSON well it does look like boomhowers car. Lol
...try 218! its probably a 340...but most probably a propped up 318 2 v! Yeah pressure wash that interior real good! Make sure to get those speaker grills!
Butchers getting a key out with vice grips,a nd guy says drill,it out im done here ,hurts to watch this
They may have alot of money but they ain't got no common cents.😉
More money than brains.
I like Dodge Dart 71 two door swinger, V8 318, nice car, from Venezuela...!
318 's were junk...
Slower that shit...
As soon as i had the title i would have started restoring it immediately. That a whole lot of potential.
I agree on the gauges. I've seen quite a few 318's with the big rectangle speedo. Every real 340 "A" body I've ever seen had the round gauges.
So it ended up being a 318 and not a 340 but that is still one very cool car.
Junk
@@neale.kaufman5168 Whatever dude. Take your ass on to a Nissan channel.
What a bunch of rocket scientist here!!!
I know right
Mechanical Engineers at the best
Holy shit...my god
@Jonathan Young I Uz wonerin how bill gonna keep da water outda carbureator…..then bill comes out with this cup………snore!
I really enjoyed this video!!! Thank you!
Oh my G O S H! These guys are a couple of geniuses! 😨
The 70s mopars have key releases on top of the column. You can even see it. You can also see the mopar build sheet in the rear seat still.
Someone needs to get that car away from Bill ASAP
You're about as dumb as they come
Did you see his woody and Harleys. He is the right guy for that car. It will be done original and correct
Kenneth Law further more he starts banging on shit with pliers from 10:10 on and absolutely carelessly yanking on stuff. Stop the monkey restoration.
I would be more concerned about all the dumb asses down south that run around or leave the air cleaner off all the time
Bought a new black on red Dart Swinger with the slant 6 in '73. I LOVED that car.
The car would have been better off in the barn than with these people tbh
there you go, just what I was thinking also
Agreed
Agreed
Had a lot of fun watching the paint dry during your video .
Awesome, thank you!
Lucky bastard Lola "" He should have done been working on it before he got Dementia and he seemed to get nervous about certain questions about his operations "!!!?? Maybe Ole Jimmy Hoffa is Dead in a back seat or at least in his shop"!!?? Lola " I kid i kid""" Ive been drinking a little too much this morning "" Lola God bless you and your family and friends Shalom
It was yours after 30 days in most states brother. Just got to put an add in the paper with the address and description and ask if any one knows who this person is ans would they please come get their car of your property. I would have gave him a few months but I have limited property. Not enough for all that.Amazing how simple they were then. So easy to work on. I loved mopar when I was young. Soooo easy to work on.
The great pumpkin find just in time for Halloween
Hey make sure you take video and pictures as he restores the car would love to see the process as he goes. I know it will take a few years but would be fun to see it come together. And also that 1915 Harley would be a joy to watch
I'd get it running and happily drive that car just like it is! I've owned three darts. and l enjoyed them all Let me know if its for sell.
Sounded like Jerry lost all interest finding out it wasn't the Factory 340 in there..Goodnight Irene! LOL
Collectors are an odd lot, aren’t they?
