  • My name is Xanthe Wyse.
I am a semi-professional artist in New Zealand. I don't work fulltime (including with art) due to limitations with my disabilities (mental injury of post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD & bipolar disorder).
Art is a huge therapeutic outlet for me, a form of expression.
I've seen some artists say they have imposter syndrome if they didn't go to art school or fail to make a living from art.
I never went to art school and I don't see art school (with the massive expense these days) as necessary. I have had small group tuition from various artists over the years. I don't make a living from art. Still an artist.
I now specialise in painting with acrylics (usually on canvas).
I love creating art and one of my areas of expertise is to use a different palette for every painting. My art journal with mixing experiments and planning has become a valuable resource for me.
I very much dislike the trying to sell paintings aspect. Partly because I'm not cut out for sales. Partly because I have very low social capacity.
I've had two solo art exhibitions and sold art but I don't see myself doing solo exhibitions in the near future. It was good for my personal growth yet also very stressful.
This year I transitioned from hobby to hobby business. My goals aren't very extravagent, just aiming to cover my expenses plus a little extra. Plus hoping to find homes for my art.
    My website is: www.soarpurpos...
