She's a Cavalier. I have two Cavs. I'm a bather for a groomer. We don't get a lot of Cavs but I really like to do them. They are great dogs!!

Oh my God, looks like you're shearing a sheep! This is Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and what they really need is to be groomed daily by their owners. The tail is never shaved like that, it's horrendous.
I agree!!! I have a Cavapoo and our groomer just did this same exact thing and I about flipped!! I will have to find someone who actually knows what they are doing
This looks more like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rather than a Cocker Spaniel. None the less, nice job once again. I will be clippering down two of my English Setters this week and am going to try some of your techniques. BTW, I just ordered a large dog up stand to help me with my English Setters. 👍🏻

I agree it looks like my Cavalier almost exactly but, mine does not have curly fur. Since they are all in the spaniel family they look similar, so she could be a cavalier king charles springer mix,

Nox So true; I watch at least 4 every night before I go to sleep. Not sure if it’s her voice, the hum of the clippers, clicking of scissors, but it totally relaxes and de stresses me and I’m learning how to help the rescue dogs I foster at the same time! ❤️🐶

She is not that good of a groomer at all.
This isn’t grooming as much as it is shaving. I’ve never really seen her do any professional grooming. All she does is shavedowns. Nothing more, and nothing less.

@@dlg.studios5649 Yes indeed, I've been professionally dog grooming over 34 years and she is the reason groomers get a bad reputation. Her skills are limited on every level she needs to Stop grooming.

I just asked for a Cavi video and here it is! Thanks Dede! Mine is a senior with heart issues now so we don't do long grooms- just the basics at home. Cavi's are the sweetest most loyal dogs ever! I've never shaved Ollie completely but we keep him shorter than the traditional Cav cut. I tend to like to keep shorter feathers on his front legs and his tail tapered. We definitely shave inside ears and still deal with periodic ear infections!
Scrap4Therapy I always had a shorter Cav cut for mine too but left most of his tail, he looked wrong wagging a short cut tail! Mine didn't get ear issues but had a mild heart murmur (also a trait of Cavs). Cavs are the sweetest little dogs with the biggest hearts.
I have a couple Cavaliers too and I trim them at home. I like to keep the Cavvie features too--the feathered legs, fluffy toes, chest, ears and hair on the top of the head. I never touch the tail unless something has got knotted in it. Our one dog had ear infections that we were constantly at the vet for treatment for. I tried Zymox with the 1.0% hydrocortisone that can be bought off the internet without a prescription and it finally sorted the problem once and for all. We had hydrocortisone in other vet prescriptions but it never worked like this. Hope that helps you. I wish I had found out years earlier.

Thanks for helping me out with my first shaved groom of a cocker spaniel. I know that one may not be a spaniel but same features as the one i am doing now. The one Im doing has very curly hair close to a poodle so I bathed him and blow dryed him out first. Now my clippers are going through like butter. So glad that I listened to you about switching blades too. Damn they get hot! So I bought an extra one and when switching just place one on an ice pack to cool faster.

The fact that you dont actually know what kind of spaniel it is shows you dint know the breed standard, if someone sheared my cavalier like that i would ask for a full refund

Evil Snail haha, I wish. I actually got her from a lady who has show dogs. I wish I were able to post a pic of her. She’s not a cavalier. I’ve questioned before and have taken her to vets and they all say that she’s a cocker spaniel.

My mom wanted a Cocker Spaniel and I do not regret not getting her one. I did not want to deal with haircuts. So I eneded up getting a English Bulldog and we all were happy.🤘 Beautiful dog🐕
Kasha Taylor This particular dog isn’t a cocker spaniel, but I do have a cocker spaniel and they are a lot of work, not only on haircuts but brushing, training and 40-60min plus of exercise a day!

It's a Cavalier, I've owned one as well as an American Cocker. I'm in the UK too, my uncle breeds pedigree Americans.
It's an American Cocker. Probably female. Cavaliers are a toy breed & have daintier bones.
melmicsim Actually many cavaliers are medium sized these days. I very rarely see toy cavs anymore. I see medium and small, but very few toy cavs. I think considering the eyes, head shape, fur, and nose length, that this is a cav, not a cocker. But it's kind of a close call.
melmicsim It's definitely a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel not an American Cocker. Non-pedigree 'pet bred' dogs come in varying sizes, I've seen many large & small Cavs.

@@elianabrielle3928 fur doesn’t make your dogs heat up. On the contrary, it isolated them from the weather and protects their skin

If you streamline your clippers cord, up the wall, along the roof and down above the table. It would save your wrists and help keep the cord out of your way. (Bit like a sheep shearer’s set up).
Great idea. She needs to do something! That joint in her wrist is swollen bad!
Yeah it’s just a matter of getting an electrition to rig a power socket compatible with the clipper suspended from the ceiling it would make life easier

I had collies (Lassie) over a decade ago, just the greatest dogs but this Cocker Spaniel is a fine dog, a real gentle spirit.

LorLor Slinger Thank you! I have two Cavaliers and I screamed when the tail was shaved. You can tell a Cavvie at a distance from their tails waving constantly like a happy little flag.

LorLor Slinger Im a dog groomer in SC & as a groomer if the owner wants anything done to their dog I will do it, I may not agree or think that certain style looks good but at the end of the day the owner wants what they want. I can make suggestions.
My AKC COCKER looks just like her. I am a pro groomer and it is Always shaved and yes She is quite the huntress!

This dog is exactly like the dog I recently had Benji. He was a cav with papers. Cavaliers in the uk generally have curly hair and a more snub nose just like this one. Cavs also have short legs and a barrel body. A mix with a cocker spaniel results in longer legs and snout.The Blenheim which I think this one is , has the oval over the forehead and the white muzzle. The tail is held at half mast not curled up in the air. They are the most gentle of dogs, patient and loving. Oh I miss my boy! She is beautiful Dede xxx beautiful groom xx
Sure do know your business. Love the way you use those nail clipper. My groomer cuts them all in one clip. I don't care for that. Great job wish I was closer
Clipping nails are tricky. You should do one snip at a time.

She's a king Charles I think .when I cut my cockers I do feathers and a skirt and keep most the tail.
I do not know breeds of dogs very well but some are so cute and this one is a cutie pie and so well behaved!😍

In the UK I was paying £35 to £40 every six weeks to groom my shichon. I couldn’t afford this so I bought a lightweight no cord (it recharges) charger. It cost £15 it’s absolutely amazing. Honestly you can’t do your dog wrong and it grows back so quickly. It is a bonding time between me and my dog. And many groomers are a bit rough out of sight because they need to get the job done. Dede is good and I would trust her but they are not all like that.

I personally wouldn’t have shaved anything off her face. Maybe have the owners fill out a form stating the dog’s breed would be a good idea. Since you kept talking about breed specifics of a cocker and this was a pure bred cavalier King Charles spaniel.

Luckypawpads Really depends on the breeding. This is a BIG girl for sure! She’s also quite overweight which makes her larger as well. But I’d bet anything she’s a pure cavie.

My grandma's girl was the runt, and she was purebred, but despite the high nutrient food she got, she stayed so tiny she was often mistaken for a long haired Chihuahua.
Shes the only Cav i've ever met, but Cockers aren't new for me. Neither of my girls have been purebred, my last cocker was English x American, we got her at a year old, and my current is a English x ESS who was a puppymill rescue. So, I kinda just thought Cavs were generally smaller and Cockers were bigger-
Dede, check into the possibility of an overhead cord reel for your clippers. I would think / hope that would help with your arm & wrist fatigue.

What a sweet dog! Dede I hope these type of grooms make your day. If I lived by you I would be wanting your help with my Rotties nails. We have tried everything you have showed on distractions and touching. She just had a groomer cut all her quicks and hurt her in holds and she just won’t. It’s as soon as she feels them around her nail. I can tap them in her nails and everything else. It’s been resorted to her having them cut way back into the quick while she is sedated for her teeth cleaning and it lasts all year with no overgrowth. Groomers, vets, and I are at a loss in what else to do. As you say what’s best for them and won’t hurt you.

This dog is a mixture of an American Cocker and Cavalier. Hair is curly like the Cocker the heavy set of the body is cocker, however the shortness of size is Cavalier. Beautiful dog. I would take it right off. I like the size and the hair type. Perfect. I was going to breed my cocker that looked like a St. Bernard in the face with a red Cavalier, but never did. I regret it. Bailey lived to be 17 yr. best little guy ever. Would have had beautiful puppies.

that is most def. a king Charles Cavalier Spaniel... my aunt and uncle had a cocker and it didnt look anything like it... however it looks just like my male king charles... even the markings, the texture of the fur and the bluntness of the hose

I am a Vet Tech and I actually prefer parents grooming instead of us. This is because it helps the parent understand their baby's boundaries and how they react to things like noise and scissors.
