I have been grooming for 30 years. Always on My own. So I love to watch other groomers to pick up tips. This is the first I've seen you. Wow, awesome job, what I love most is you explained why you were doing what you were doing. I subscribed and would love to see more of your work thank you for taking the time to share.
Thank you! I have a lot more planned, it's just getting the time to edit. It's dog show season in my area and my clients are excited to be back out, so I've been working a lot of hours. But the queue is only growing longer 😄 Thanks for subscribing 💗
I've been grooming and own cocker spaniels for over 30 years! This is THE first time I have seen the use of a stone for the stop, instead of a #10 blade. I love it and will try it o. my silver boy next month. Thank you! :)
I am going to groom my girl today. I am a certified groomer but in a small rural community. Most cockers here are a full shave down :( so i havent had much practice. Wish me luck ! 😃
Just saw your comment. I had to start learning to groom because of cost and COVID. How did you do? Pictures? I am doing ok on feet but top knot is the hardest😮
I love long-haired breeds, so I leave the coat completely natural on my cocker spaniel. Yes, it's a whole lot of brushing - at least 40 minutes. Naturally, it takes longer to brush out when he goes to the park. Have to check thoroughly for burrs. Though his behavior is still so puppyish, he's twelve years old now, with glaucoma in an eye that needs to be removed and nerve problems in his back end. His legs get wobbly like the Scarecrow on Wizard of Oz. As he has such a profuse billowy coat, he mats very quickly and must be brushed at least once every day. However, he can no longer handle long grooming sessions - not even when I let him lie down through most of it. I don't want to take him to a professional because they never listen to how an owner instructs them to trim the coat. Seen too many silly haircuts on my friends' dogs. My dog will NEVER be shaved. Thank you for showing me I don't need to be afraid of the thinning shears. Looking forward to watching more of your videos so I can be confident in the way I trim up his coat.
What a beautiful bond the two of you have 💕 Being able to work on him at home is great, you can just go about it in small spurts and ensure he is comfortable! Thinning shears are a slow way of trimming something, but they are very forgiving and if you're not 100% happy with it, you can always trim again in a month or two. Hopefully I will be getting the videos back up and running. Had to take some major down time as I made some big changes to the business. I do see some more cockers in my future videos 😋 Just keep trimming. I can tell, you're doing great!
Finding a groomer that fits the pet parent as well as the dog needs and personality is tough. My favorite groomer just retired and I am in the process of trying to find my next one. It’s like trying to find a husband. I am on the search! But in the meantime I’m trying to do it myself. I’m doing it in short spurts and I’m watching a lot of videos. 🤪
I can’t find tool link. I left eyelashes. They grew to 3 inches before groomer accidentally whacked one side. They were beautiful! Please post about stripping tool and stone. Thanks!
Thank you! I use a custom stone made from a BBQ pumice stone. I just cut the big block down into a size I prefer and then wrap 2/3 of it in vet wrap or athletic wrap. If you're looking for a premade one, you could look for a sally stone (groomer term) or find a pumice stone in the beauty section that is comfortable for you to hold.
I always use a 30 clipping in the direction the hair grows. Some show people like a 10 against the grain, but there are some vets who say this can hurt/burn hair follicles, making the melanin distribution slow, causing a fade in pigment. Since she's black, I won't risk fading her color. But both give a very clean look so you get to choose which method you would prefer. ☺️
Yes 😔, she is normally on a weekly schedule, but my good friend had a stroke and so the dogs had to go stay with family/friends that didn't understand the maintenance of show coat. I was so caught up with the friend stuck in the hospital that I forgot to check in on all the dogs involved in the process as well. By the time the thought came to me, everyone was in pretty bad shape. Everyone is back to their routines now and my friend is slowly recovering the use of her left side. 💛
@@Dognormousllc sorry to hear about your friend's situation, I'm Glad she's recovering now though. Can't wait to see one of your videos working on the back, you do an amazing work!
I've had the pleasure of grooming her since she was 3 months old and we slowly built up to a big long grooming experience. It will take time to break the habit, but small sessions of just feeding her treats (or bits dinner if you're watching her waist line) and rubbing the vibrating clipper over her helps build confidence and trust. 💕 I hope your girl comes around
To make it easier here is the link to the exact scissors double thinners that I use. They are not curved, but they also have some nice curved thinners (they will only have teeth on one side) www.affordablegroomingshears.com/product/dbl-thinner/
Excellent tip about using the stone on the stop! Loved the video but eventually put in on mute because the piano music was distracting. Thank you for posting! I will consider the double sided tool :) It worked really well
Sharp objects and live animals are always balancing act 😄 If your groomer needs a little help achieving the cocker spaniel head, you know where to send them. Thank you for popping by ❤
That's a good question! Because of the way dogs are structurally built, most of their eyelashes don't curl and will come back into their eyes, especially on big eyed breeds like the cocker spaniel. However, there are breeds like the Wheaton, the coton, and the Tibetan terrier for example, that have eyelashes designed to help up hair, so the hair that covers the eyes is lifted away. So when you put these breeds in cute pet trims, they have those eyelashes we all dream of having. Breeds that have eye problems, you want those eyelashes trimmed short, and if you really love the eye lashes, watch their length to make sure that they are not causing irritation to the eye. ❤
You have such calm, awesome energy, I bet the dogs feel it. Thanks for your video!!
I am a new cocker spaniel mommy and your tutorial made me feel confident and in control for when I try to start grooming my by boy thank you🙂

Do you live in Chicago? This Groomer has her own shop!
Forgot to mention she also goes all over the world competing 😊

Where do you buy your double thinners and your trimmer?
What is the "stone" you used? She's beautiful

Do you prefer to bathe before or after?
Thank you so much for this very clear step by step instructions. What do you do with the length of the ears?

What kind of stone did you use on the stop?
What is that stone you are using to remove dead hair
What age would you groom an American cocker puppy please
She is just gorgeous. I have a solid brown boy that looks like the Abominable Snowman.
Just saw your video. I cannot find the name of the tools us used
I love how gentle you are with your hands on this poor dog, I can't believe they let him get this bad without a proper grooming.

Yes, training to associate with good thing and short pleasant sessions works!
How many teeth are your double-sided thinners and are the teeth curved?

🤣🤣
I love to leave hair on the ears.

Your welcome, and sorry about the audio. This was still the very beginning of my editing journey and I wish I could adjust it.
Thank you, that was awesome, but, in all honesty, I'll use a professional as I don't trust myself with sharp objects:)

I didn't know eyelashes were a detriment. Must be a show ring thing.
Why don’t you want eye lashes?
Pity is hard to watch.
With ears so heavy
Look at the dog! It's horrible
