    I have a 2007 Tundra 5.7 with 120,000 carefree miles on it. It still rides, feels, and is quiet like a brand new truck. I thought about a supercharger but it is plenty fast enough for me like it is.

      +htbud11 My father has an 01 Tundra that he bought new. He still has it today with 240k miles on it. It still runs and drives pretty much like the day it was taken home. My parents split about 2 years after he bought the truck so I haven't been in it very often, but I'm still amazed every time I get in it that it feels just like that day I remember it coming home from the dealer and going for the first ride. I mention it to him every time I get in it how well it has aged. It has an exhaust leak, it's getting rusty (it got the new frame though!) and the stock clutch is finally getting towards the end of it's life, but other than that it's a great truck and it'll be around for a while... I'm hoping to throw him an offer when the clutch finally packs it in. :) The newer generations still feel like they're just as good of a truck as the older ones.

      @@volvo09 I know this response is 4 years after the fact. But I bet if your dad ever had the exhaust leak checked you’d find out it was the header. The 4.7 is notorious for that. That and the SAIS pump going out. Other then those two details, absolutely billet proof engine

    I drove a stock 5.7 Tundra for 4 years and supercharged for a year now. It’s a very noticeable difference. The car picks up and goes with less gas. My mpg would average 12.8 with a level kit and 2018+ trd pro rims and tires. Now 15.5mpg with 35s, 4.5 lift, 4.88gear, and the magnuson s/c. But also have to run premium now. Still worth it imo

      M. Fatani - I agree. I also know that my F150s and I have 1 F250 & 350 & 550 have all been great with no repairs. The oldest was my F150 that I replaced with the Toyota. I also have 6 Nissan Frontier Pro 4X for the ranch hands. They are very good as well. They see hard work.
      In the end I think all the trucks are really good, Ram are not quite up there but still good. I think Toyota are really good but if you follow Toyota’s routine maintenance program for 5 years of warranty time, you could replace a tranny or motor on one of the other trucks. Even with following the other brand’s routine maintenance program. That would have eliminated me purchasing another Toyota itself. It did actually, just as much as the problems. My new truck is a GMC Canyon Denali Duramax. We will see how things go with that truck! I have friends with GM 1/2 tons that don’t stand up too well for heavy ranch work. The powertrain is great but the rest, switches, body panels, etc are not so great.
      My friends think I am nut with the Nissans, but one guy is trying a couple of Toyota Tacomas to see if they stand up. He is also shopping for a couple of used Frontiers with the 6 foot bed (king cab or crew) . He wants to compare but is amazed he can get 2 used Frontiers with less than 10,000 miles(1 or 2 years old) for the price of one new Tacoma. He could also buy 3 new Frontiers for the price of 2 Tacomas.
      Ah well, I am rambling. If I was going to own past my warranty on my personal truck, I would only buy Toyota. I am too fickle to hold a truck that long though.
      Stay safe out there.

    • @nickt2964
      @nickt2964 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      and how else would they test this bolt on kit with factory warranty? The Tundra does not come with a manual transmission so how does the Tundra suck in that regard? So does that mean the Raptor sucks too? It too has an automatic transmission.

    • @lerabidheavy7437
      @lerabidheavy7437 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nicholas Tang it still has a manual in Mexico UK and some other places and raptor needs an auto because it's an American car and many people in America can't drive manual

    • @nickt2964
      @nickt2964 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      true about the manual in general. We don't have the option of manual in Canada for the Tundra either. I know in other countries they did but didn't know Mexico still had the manual option. The only option for a manual is the Tacoma. For this comparison, I don't think it sucks because it didn't have a manual transmission. Either way, manual transmission or auto, it is still a damn fast truck after that supercharger install. I'd buy it!

    • @lerabidheavy7437
      @lerabidheavy7437 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nicholas Tang I would do a manual swap or go to Mexico and get the manual and Mexico is lucky 80%of the 2016/2017 cars still use manual and I'm not saying it's a bad truck I'm saying the auto is slowing it down a lot comapired to manual

      As someone who works in the industry I can tell you the only true major issue that plagues the Tundra consistently are the Air Injection Pumps which affects all the three motors the chassis used from 2007 to 2012(3UR, 2UZ, and 1GR). It's about a $2k fix if it requires all the parts you will need on top of the labor to install. I can't speak for the Raptor, which are sweet, but after owning a Tundra from 2010 to 2015 I can tell you that my old 2011 Tundra was an absolute sweet heart if not a bit thirsty for fuel and would own one again.

    Did you use premium fuel in both trucks? If you didn't in the Raptor, it will affect the 0-60 and fuel economy numbers.

      @jamesdahan7265 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats what I wanted to know also. Plus, if the Raptor did those numbers on Reg or E fuel, it is for sure the most cost effective!

  • @CarsnStuff
    @CarsnStuff 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    and the cost difference too.. the trd supercharger is like 2300 bucks.. the tundra itself can be had for as low as 13,000 you're looking at a 500 hp truck for under 16,000 dollars. and its gonna be beating 90% of other trucks that even want to step up. and you'll have all that power to really help with towing things and just get moving in general.
    And then the raptor for that same year as the one in the video easily will cost you 35k to 40k and its no way going to outlast the tundra. and with that supercharger its not gonna beat it. just gotta love how tundra's are all around great trucks.

  • @severe28
    @severe28 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You guys need a driver. Great vid and going by numbers, it was obvious the Tundra would be quicker, but the testing for quickness needs a more prominent driver for more reliable, consistent results..

    I wonder if the Tundra would have been any faster by fully disengaging the systems, the little indicator light won't come on if it is. You have to press and hold the TC off button for a few seconds to do it fyi. A second button reading "vsc off" should appear. Good video btw

    Funny how many people don't get how much altitude affects power. That is very quick. The Raptor is no slouch and barely broke 9 secs. It would be interesting to see the Ford with the Ecoboost compared to this supercharger tundra.

    • @larry8065
      @larry8065 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Holcomb Supercharging doesn't have the same advantages of turbocharging at altitude. Superchargers force more air, but they are still fixed speed. So if an engine has 25% loss at XXXX altitude, the supercharging will have the same loss. Turbos are different, they are free spinning, so they can continue to build power until they reach normal peak boost.

    Can you do a series of possible rumors paired with the videos footage of sightings of next years trucks. Covering things like maybe the Tacoma being already far superior off-road entering the diesel market or ford making an eco diesel in the f150. Possibly cover things like the ford ranger and its possibility of having a diesel option and what its off-road capability might be. Even the possibility of jeep coming out with a truck version of the wrangler and what kind of options it might have for off-road ability and Diesel engine or anything like that. It would be interesting to hear what TFL could come up with and hear of possible projects that sound plausible and aren't just random rumors.

      Lol, but the tundra is still a lot cheaper and has similar depreciation to that of the ford raptor. You can easily save $7,000 if you buy an off-road suspension 4x4 tundra with the supercharger and be faster and possibly more reliable than the raptor. It’s a win in my book.
