David Bowie (this song in particular) saved my life. As a survivor of sexual abuse, I had crippling anxiety that would basically make me a vegetable (constant fatigue, vomiting, panic attacks that would last for hours, and feeling miserable). At some point in 2016, I thought of ending it all because the symptoms were just becoming unmanageable and I felt hopeless about ever being able to life normally. However...this song would always pull me out of my suicidal episodes and gave me the strength to wipe my tears and muster on. Had it not been for David Bowie, I would have ended my life before being fortunate to receive free mental health counseling from a local community college. That's my David Bowie story ^.^
Glad you are still here sharing your story with us. Someone said we are like lonely boats sailing in the ocean, but it is nice to see the little lights of nearby boats sailing at the same time. Bowie had the gift of lighting up the whole damn sea

I'm 25, started listening to Bowie over a year ago, I wish sooner but at least it was before he died. Bowie is without a doubt the most underrated all time. People don't understand how great he was. In the end most music artist stop making stuff on par with music from their prime. Bowie was doing that, Blackstar and the Next Day. And a lot of 90s and 2000s stuff is pretty good. The body of work he left behind is better than anyone's. A top 10 David Bowie list is so hard to do, I did and ended up with a top 20 basically. Bowie more so should have a top 50. I would close to 30 Bowie songs are top 10 quality. A dying Bowie was still the most innovative artist, smart artists would take note from Blackstar.
I'm only 3 and a bit but can already read and write and most of all appreciate the music of David Bowie! About 50 years ago I met him in my previous life - i was quite old then and he was about 20 - he wrote a song about me called the laughing gnome!
“you're not alone” “'cause you're wonderful” Yes! I’m not alone. I’m wonderful. We’re not alone!! We’re wonderful!! This song taught me affirming myself. Thanks David. You are my lifesaver.
This song hurts me, in a good way. I know you could say it's parasocial, and that musicians can't care about their fans on a personal level, and for any other song I'd agree- but something about this one just feels so incredibly genuine. I can't listen to it without tearing up, no matter how many times I hear it
He didn't know us, but I don't think that means he didn't care. You can't make art like this without understanding what people are going through, at least a little bit. Bowie didn't know any of us, but I do think he wrote this song for people *like* us.
One of Bowie's most poignant and evocative songs , evoking the senseless deaths of countless young rock stars who had died because of alcohol and drug excess or had committed suicide . Jimi Hendrix , Janis Joplin , Jim Morrison , Tim Buckley st al
Darby Crash , Sid Vicious , Gram Parson , Elvis , Blond owl allen , big bear of Canned heat, Rory Gallagher , Freddy King and so on ..may their soul rest in peace and they shall jammin together somewhere
Marc Bolan died due to serious car accident caused by his drunk girlfriend behind the wheel, who had offered picking him up to home. That wasn't suicide or something like overdosing drugs or alcohol... But I know what you wanted to say, they are unforgiven
When I was younger I stayed home from school one day. I wasn't sick but I felt like I was. I had stopped taking my anti depressant a month before and hadn't slept in a week. I was curled up on the bathroom floor and was contemplating suicide like I often did back then. I had my music on shuffle and just when I had gotten up to get the pills out of the cabinet this song came on. I stopped to listen because I wasn't going to interrupt a David Bowie song with my death. This man was sent to us by a force that could crush god.
Evelyn Setsuko I have felt very alone but this man's music even after his death keeps me going. i felt every bit of the you're not alone and you're wonderful as I just heard this particular song for the first time.
Evelyn Setsuko even as an older man when I feel that nobody really understands I can just tell from this music that someone did understand and felt empathy and kindness and he was such an electrifying performer everything about him exudes life.
Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette The wall-to-wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget Ohhh, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide You're too old to lose it, too young to choose it And the clocks waits so patiently on your song You walk past a cafe but you don't eat when you've lived too long Oh, no, no, no, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide Chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road But the day breaks instead so you hurry home Don't let the sun blast your shadow Don't let the milk float ride your mind They're so natural - religiously unkind Oh no love! you're not alone You're watching yourself but you're too unfair You got your head all tangled up but if I could only make you care Oh no love! you're not alone No matter what or who you've been No matter when or where you've seen All the knives seem to lacerate your brain I've had my share, I'll help you with the pain You're not alone Just turn on with me and you're not alone Let's turn on with me and you're not alone Let's turn on and be not alone Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful Oh gimme your hands.
I just discovered David Bowie like a week ago and this song has already done more for my self esteem since then than every power song I’ve ever listened to collectively. How does he do it? “Oh no love, you’re not alone” and “give me your hands, cause you’re wonderful” are just delivered so genuinely that I actually believe him.
Boy, this crowd was really into their role as rock-n-roll maenads or something. Looks like three different times that fans almost knocked him down by grabbing onto him. Big props to Bowie for A) being cool enough to keep taking hands anyway, and B) keeping his footing, because though you can't really tell from this video, I'm pretty sure he had those high platform boots on during this show...
@@francesthepossum1812 He announced it right before closing with Rock and Roll Suicide. That's why at the beginning you hear the fans scream because he said "It's not only the last show of the tour, it's the last show we'll ever do." Mick knew, but Trevor and Woody did not. That's why he threw his sticks at the end of the song.
'oh no love you're not alone'. it's in these times with the absence of Bowie when that line brings the most comfort. he is still out there, still here for us. beautiful song, incredible performance.
I have a very severe case of depression, every so often I'll get into a crisis and do stupid things to myself. This song has helped save my life a time or two, and for that I'll always be grateful. Thank you David.
I'm 56. I've been divorced twice. Because of my "head being tangled up" I have been fighting through depression for a long while. This song is so very uplifting! There are many religious but unkind people. They say hurtful words or they judge piously or...they leave you alone. Too blessed to be stressed by those not acting like "shiny, happy, people". Thank God I know many kind and compassionate people who are NOT like that at all. Just sometimes, there are things I cannot begin to share. Depths of hell type memories or emotions and failures. I love this song! "You are not alone, you're wonderful!" "Take my hand.". I really appreciate his smile at the end when he says thank you very much we love you... that is all any of us can hope for in life.
If I ever get a tattoo I would get “Oh no love your not alone” This line literally saved my line and this song helped me so much Thank you Bowie for everything
Can’t believe how long ago this was Miss this man sooo much I’m 62 My grand child runs around singing Bowie Cos his mum sings to him … And that’s what we need to do Keep DB alive in every generation Happy 2023 guys.. xx 💋
Man we really need to have more live videos from Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust period. There are no much of them at TH-cam. And they are amazing! Bowie had such a way of connecting with the people... You will be forever with us David Robert Jones.
when I feel down, I come back and watch this. In this performance Bowie has put his own personal suffering into the second person. After the first part of the song we are weak. Then he says "give me your hands" for the first time. Suddenly we are strong again. It's a "hero's journey" of a song.
He was one of the first to bring attention to things like suicide. The lyric "you're not alone" is so beautifully optimistic. This doesn't glorify suicide, it does its best to dissuade it.
dear david, one year ago you leaved us, but we are not alone because our hands are still with yours. thank you for everything. I miss you a lot. Paola.
No too long ago that i got interested in Bowie's music. I think i know him since i was in my 20's, but i was SO distracted by the mainstream music of that moment, that i totally ignored him. I started with his greatest hits: space oddity, starman, heroes, ashes to ashes, golden years, and a large etcetera. Last night i heard his 'The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from mars', and finally understood why he's huge. I can't describe the emotions i felt in every song. I can't wait to discover his whole discography.

Fellow Bowie lovers, aswell as a lot of you guys, this song saved my life more than once. Bowie lives on and will live forever. We are rock n roll suicides, and hell we are so fucking strong. I'd like to say am here for any of you guys, if you need to talk or whatever, hit me up. This is the least I can do for my brothers and sisters, sharing the love and art of Bowie. It just feels right. OH NO LOVE, YOU'RE NOT ALONE!
I remember the first time I was listening to this song, it was passively playing while I was going through some really tough times. A lot was going on in my life and I felt extremely overwhelmed and depressed. Then out of nowhere I hear " Oh no love you're not alone". That was exactly what I needed at that point in my life and to think it came from a man I never met. David Bowie was more than a man he was an inspiration to all of the outcasts of the world. The man who sold the world is the man who saved a lot of people's souls. Thank you starman, you may be gone, but your legacy will never be forgotten
David Jones was born to perform and entertain....and he did that with everything he had...right to the end...thanks for everything....exit stage left....R.I.P. Starman
This was the first Bowie song I ever heard, the first track of The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. I bought that album as a 16 year old in 72 or 73, because its cover fascinated me. It began a love affair with his music that hasn’t ended. At first I had to keep it hidden, as a working- class lad whose mates were all into Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc. When I told a girl I liked that I was into Bowie, she cut me dead. Changes….
When I was 16 years old, I joined his concert in Tokyo. That was my first concert and really fantastic. I remember this song was the final after encore. He is still my hero even now.
he obviously wasn't just writing a random song and then singing it, you could tell that it was really coming from his heart, this song shows so much empathy, we all miss you dearly, David ❤
Angel are you home on your planet? I love you as do many. You will live in our hearts for ever more. You are one of a kind, a walking piece of art. I have loved you all my life, and I am so gutted today, but God is real and I believe you live on. But the stars look very different today,...
This performance is even better than the record !!!! It's outstandingly soul grabbing .... And What a VOICE ! Unique ! I could listen to him on and on again, a thousand times... Love him for ever ❤️ He ll never die in our hearts ....
I don't usually cry when I listen to music and ive grown up listening to Bowie but somehow this is the first time I heard this song and it gives me hope and makes me want to actually live and be able to push though harsh times. Thank you
Bowie’s greatest, most impactful, and most emotional performance of all time Telling his fans that he’s retiring after telling them to all be yourself and helping them in their identity and feelings And then telling them I may be leaving but I will always be here for you, I will always be right there for you I may be gone but my music will not You’re not alone

My favourite too! Have you seen the video of him doing a sound check for an appearance on one of those morning shows - you know, their summer concert series or whatever...the fans who were there yell out to do this song for his sound check and he does! He probably hadn't sung it in person in years and I bet it was the last time. I wish I had been there! I think it was so sweet of him to do it for them. He couldn't remember all the words and he stopped early (probably because it got much higher at that point) but it was so amazing. Check it out: th-cam.com/video/LkxXFhWNDTw/w-d-xo.html
Just Ran from home, struggling with depression, and crying near the street. This song feels as if Bowie was guiding me and reconforting me. LOVE everyone

David Bowie and Elvis Presley : both born on the 8th January . What a coincidence the two most iconic pop/rock legends should share the same birth date .
Bowie was a huge Elvis fan. He wrote Golden Years for him to perform but EP turned it down. I know Bowie went to see him in concert. He said he had to see him perform live and watch his process. I wonder if they met?
+ThefightingCelt Bowie was channeling Elvis for the Freddie Mercury tribute concert when he perfomed "TVC15". One of the most astoundingly beautiful things I've ever watched.

+Lady BlackStardust if they did meet Bowie would most likely have not talked about their conversation. Bowie was private and a class act in my opinion.
winogirlll I doubt there would be any reason to be private about a meeting of the King with Mr. Jones! Elvis died too soon in '77, only 42 years old. Bowie also left us too soon. But what a legacy they both left.

Bowie no matter in any of his incarnations. Is tucked in all of our hearts souls n minds. Not only a performer of music that hit us hard as teens, but as someone we could love n identify with. He was a master of disguise. When I saw the Diamond dogs tour in 72..I and those I was with were.. not only with an intellect but one of the most brilliant performers the planet had ever known. I still listen to Bowie every chance I get. He is gone now as we all will b when our time comes. But he will never be forgotten. He was so well loved. N by all accounts still is!
I was 15 when I first heard of this beautiful being. My sister thought me all about him, slowly I fell in love. I found myself burying myself with his songs and lyrics. It gave me strength, love and will. I'll always wish I met him, or even assisted a concert. But he will always live on in my heard and mind 💓 bless you my bowie❤
Simply one of the most talented artists of our lives. I'm grateful we saw him on concert a few times in the 70's. I'm old now and realize he was decades ahead of himself throughout his career... perhaps he was sent from the stars, and I hope he's among them now.
I can't remember a time when David Bowie wasn't a part of my life. I didn't only start listening to Bowie, it sucked me right in and I started living in it. It breaks my heart that he has left this life. An unbearable loss.

This song taught me affirming myself.
Thanks David. You are my lifesaver.

Your not alone..........Bowies greatest 3 word lyrics to us all....................
It surely comes from the Jacques Brel’s song, « Jef » « t’es pas tout seul » you’re not alone.
And he taught us to be heroes...just for one day ❤
Thank U.Caly
@@TT-xg7gp no copyright on three of the most common words in any language ;) just sayin.
A J of course I didn’t mean that at all, being inspired is not stealing, but Bowie covered Brel several times in the 70s so it’s possible.
This song hurts me, in a good way.
I know you could say it's parasocial, and that musicians can't care about their fans on a personal level, and for any other song I'd agree- but something about this one just feels so incredibly genuine. I can't listen to it without tearing up, no matter how many times I hear it
Its powerful, I understand. There was a whole month where I always cried to this song.
He didn't know us, but I don't think that means he didn't care. You can't make art like this without understanding what people are going through, at least a little bit.
Bowie didn't know any of us, but I do think he wrote this song for people *like* us.
@@firetarrasque4667 Well put!
the fan that runs up and hugs him is all of us
One of Bowie's most poignant and evocative songs , evoking the senseless deaths of countless young rock stars who had died because of alcohol and drug excess or had committed suicide . Jimi Hendrix , Janis Joplin , Jim Morrison , Tim Buckley st al
Darby Crash , Sid Vicious , Gram Parson , Elvis , Blond owl allen , big bear of Canned heat, Rory Gallagher , Freddy King and so on ..may their soul rest in peace and they shall jammin together somewhere
@@heartbreakkid5757 I hope to one day make it to that jam sesh..
Don’t forget Marc Bolan and Kurt Cobain. 💕
Marc Bolan died due to serious car accident caused by his drunk girlfriend behind the wheel, who had offered picking him up to home. That wasn't suicide or something like overdosing drugs or alcohol... But I know what you wanted to say, they are unforgiven
Most of them faked their deaths.
"Oh no love, you're not alone"
What a great comment "I wasn't going to interrupt a David Bowie song with my death". Respect.
Evelyn Setsuko ohhhh pity you
You lost me at the last paragraph, otherwise powerful stuff.
Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette
The wall-to-wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget
Ohhh, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide
You're too old to lose it, too young to choose it
And the clocks waits so patiently on your song
You walk past a cafe but you don't eat when you've lived too long
Oh, no, no, no, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide
Chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road
But the day breaks instead so you hurry home
Don't let the sun blast your shadow
Don't let the milk float ride your mind
They're so natural - religiously unkind
Oh no love! you're not alone
You're watching yourself but you're too unfair
You got your head all tangled up but if I could only make you care
Oh no love! you're not alone
No matter what or who you've been
No matter when or where you've seen
All the knives seem to lacerate your brain
I've had my share, I'll help you with the pain
You're not alone
Just turn on with me and you're not alone
Let's turn on with me and you're not alone
Let's turn on and be not alone
Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful
Gimme your hands cause you're wonderful
Oh gimme your hands.
R.I.P Ziggy Stardust, who died 50 years ago today.
And of course, R.I.P David Bowie (Still hard to write that seven years later.)
The cigarette burned way too fast. We lost a living legend today.
Yes we did ....
Bowie was a true genius . I think all of us are extremely lucky to have lived and witnessed the mans genius first hand in the same lifetime ....
no he didn't Kiera. His birthday was on the 8th.
+Kiera Jones No,he didn't
I'd remove the "living" part
I just discovered David Bowie like a week ago and this song has already done more for my self esteem since then than every power song I’ve ever listened to collectively. How does he do it? “Oh no love, you’re not alone” and “give me your hands, cause you’re wonderful” are just delivered so genuinely that I actually believe him.
Well you're thinking of this song as just blown my mind in a very clever way making me think again with interest thank you

Welcome to Planet Bowie. We're so happy you're here and you are so very loved.
+Rebecca B Thank God for those security guards!
This show he announced as his last show ever as Ziggy Stardust
1973
@@francesthepossum1812 He announced it right before closing with Rock and Roll Suicide. That's why at the beginning you hear the fans scream because he said "It's not only the last show of the tour, it's the last show we'll ever do." Mick knew, but Trevor and Woody did not. That's why he threw his sticks at the end of the song.
'oh no love you're not alone'. it's in these times with the absence of Bowie when that line brings the most comfort. he is still out there, still here for us. beautiful song, incredible performance.
“thank you very much. bye, bye we love you.” and we love you too bowie, we always will
I have a very severe case of depression, every so often I'll get into a crisis and do stupid things to myself. This song has helped save my life a time or two, and for that I'll always be grateful. Thank you David.
We love you too 💜 Mr. David Bowie 😢!
If I ever get a tattoo
I would get
“Oh no love your not alone”
This line literally saved my line and this song helped me so much
Thank you Bowie for everything
Normally I don't correct spellings online, but since you're gonna get a tattoo of this line, make sure it's *you're not alone.

Man we really need to have more live videos from Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust period. There are no much of them at TH-cam. And they are amazing! Bowie had such a way of connecting with the people... You will be forever with us David Robert Jones.

Thank you David, for making everyone feel better. And thank you Mick Ronson for being such an amazing guitarist
when I feel down, I come back and watch this.
This doesn't glorify suicide, it does its best to dissuade it.
a star is born, what am I saying, a genius full of talents, avant-garde and handsome as a god
This song always gives me a lump in my throat and my eyes water.
RIP David Bowie.

Ive had my share. I’ll help you with the pain. Thank you David. You did. For over 35 years
No too long ago that i got interested in Bowie's music.

@Tyler Schroeder Beautifully said. Tears in my eyes.........
David Jones was born to perform and entertain....and he did that with everything he had...right to the end...thanks for everything....exit stage left....R.I.P. Starman
'You're so natural religiously unkind' ..and then it breaks lose, every time for me. I'm not alone.
Changes….
The titles of songs may denote death, yet become anthems of life, preserving the same through the darkest hours.
Be of good cheer...
Nearly 50 years old ….still my favourite …oh no love ,your not alone 👨🎤give me your hands …
This song literally saved me in my darkest days. I still listen to it everytime I feel down, and it brings me back to life.
When I was 16 years old, I joined his concert in Tokyo. That was my first concert and really fantastic. I remember this song was the final after encore. He is still my hero even now.
Mick's trademark rock slide at the end is the icing on the cake.
I love that he says "Bye-bye, we love you!" at the end! He's so sweet!
Man did i give my soul for 6 mths tryin to tell him he was not alone i lost the end of our love❤
i think that if I been in the concert, when this song finished I cried like a baby.
This beautiful creature got me thru all my heartbreak as a teen, a young adult & now an old woman 👵 . I'll be playing David Bowie songs at my funeral.
Whenever I'm sad I'm listening to his songs and suddenly I become better. Greatest talent.
he obviously wasn't just writing a random song and then singing it, you could tell that it was really coming from his heart, this song shows so much empathy, we all miss you dearly, David ❤
Rest in peace, David. This is all I can do in honor of you. You'll never die in our memories....
He was such a rock star, one of the greatest songs ever from a true musical genius.
“Oh, whoa, whoa, oh, You’re a rock n’ roll suicide” 🤘
Angel are you home on your planet? I love you as do many. You will live in our hearts for ever more. You are one of a kind, a walking piece of art. I have loved you all my life, and I am so gutted today, but God is real and I believe you live on. But the stars look very different today,...
This performance is even better than the record !!!! It's outstandingly soul grabbing .... And What a VOICE ! Unique !

I don't usually cry when I listen to music and ive grown up listening to Bowie but somehow this is the first time I heard this song and it gives me hope and makes me want to actually live and be able to push though harsh times. Thank you
That album has so many great moments, great riffs, great lyrics that are forever quotable
Bowie’s greatest, most impactful, and most emotional performance of all time
Telling his fans that he’s retiring after telling them to all be yourself and helping them in their identity and feelings
And then telling them I may be leaving but I will always be here for you, I will always be right there for you

+ThefightingCelt There's no report that they met. But they were on each other's minds. www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jan/21/elvis-presley-david-bowie-produce-record-request-country-star-dwight-yoakam

R.I.P BOWIE , You're not alone!
