These two have a long history. They were roommates in Nashville during Johnny's drugging days. They have some hilarious stories about locking each other out, hiding drugs from each other, and Johnny trying to make biscuits from scratch and getting his black shirt covered in flour. Later in their career, Waylon needed a guitarist to finish a tour in Canada and Johnny volunteered. Waylon said "I can't have Johnny Cash backing me up on guitar!" Johnny replied "Would you do it for me?" Waylon said "You know I would." Then Johnny said "Well I'm doing it for you!" - Much later down the road when Johnny was sick in the hospital, Waylon visited him and said "You look like shit." Johnny said "You do too. In fact you better let them check you out while you're here." - Waylon was admitted to the hospital that night.- All true stories. The only kind that can happen between wonderful life long friends.

Jesse and Frank James were famous and notorious outlaws. After the Civil War, they formed a gang and robbed lots of Trains and Banks. Chain Gangs were fairly common in the South. Prisoners were chained together and forced to do manual labor. Digging ditches, road repair, etc. A good movie about chain gangs is "Cool Hand Luke."

Interesting fact about Waylon... He was ALMOST on the plane that went down with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Vallens, Big Bopper, and the Pilot Roger Peterson... Known famously as the "Day the Music Died"... Ironically, I made a comment about this crash the other day in your George Jones, "White Lightnin" reaction..
Waylon always carried guilt for the rest of his life... He was a member of Buddy's band, and he gave up his seat to the sick Big Bopper, so he would not have to ride the bus, with no heat, through extreme winter conditions...
The last conversation between Buddy and Waylon had Buddy telling Waylon he hoped his bus broke down... Waylon snapped back that he hoped his plane crashed... They got the bad news the next morning... Waylon never got over it...

    • @phil-1115
      @phil-1115 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Waylon said that he couldn't talk about it for a long time. He thought that he caused the plane to crash with that joke with Buddy and he didn't want anyone to know that he said those words.

Jessie James was an outlaw following the civil war, until his death in the 1880s. He became a sort of hero in the south, for robbing banks and trains, ran by northern carpetbaggers that where basically stealing from poor people. At least that's the short version. On another note, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson made a movie called " The last days of Frank and Jessie James" Kris played Jessie and Johnny played his older brother Frank. It looks like you liked Waylons guitar playing too. In my opinion he is one of the best.

Fun fact: Johnny Cash acted in a movie about Jesse and Frank James in 1986 called "The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James".
It also starred other country artists like Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, David Allan Coe, June Carter Cash (Johnny's wife), and probably others..
There was also a different, and more popular movie about Jesse and Frank James in 1994 called "Jesse and Frank". It starred Rob Lowe, Bill Paxton, and country artist Randy Travis.

June & Johnny also have a daughter, Rosanne, who has had hit songs of her own.
Johnny's younger brother Tommy also had a few songs getting airtime.😮

Many of them were other country stars since it was filmed at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, where the Grand Old Opry was until it moved to a new venue in 1974. Britt, with Waylon and Johnny both having left this earth with much music and musical history, it would serve you and your growing audience to see it was sheer fate and the common flu and cold that Waylon Jennings did not die a much younger man. I implore you to Google "The Day the Music Died" and read how Waylon swapped a seat on a plane in the winter of 1959 with J.P "Big Bopper" Richardson for a seat on a cold and crowded tour bus in 18° weather that night. Richardson, along with young fellow musical stars Richie Valens and Buddy Holly and their pilot went down in an Iowa corn field, killing them all. Don McLean's anthem "American Pie," written in 1971 is a touching tribute to the three musicians and the impact it had on American music, especially the rockabilly, Chicano and Americana genres. I then ask you to react to McLean's "American Pie" AFTER reacting to "Chantilly Lace" by Richardson, "That'll Be The Day" by Buddy Holly, and "Come On, Let's Go" by Richie Valens. Thank you and enjoy your channel.

2:03 Outstanding observation here. Not many people are so quick to recognize the TOP LEVEL, World Class musicianship each of these legends possess. And on top of that these two were so damn good together.
Modern country (most modern music regardless of genre) is geared directly towards “What will haul in the most money”. The writers goal is to reach the largest possible mass of people and record sales are THE only real goal. True artistry doesn’t just “take a back seat” NO NO it was booted completely out of the ride thousands of miles ago. Heart and Soul with modern “Artists” ?? They’re absolutely not interested in such things. Only big bags of 💰CASH 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 and they get away with this because there’s more than enough people out there who are willing to buy the mass produced, generic cookie cutter garbage because the majority of the general public lack the musical iQ to be able to weed out the generic junk (lyrics like ... one - two.... I LOVE You) from the legit “high quality craftsmanship”.
What Cash and Waylon did back in the day was they’d write songs that came from the heart. Maybe not always THEIR OWN heart (they both did a lot of covers), but good, quality, sincere music that was truly from the heart. Then they’d hit the studio, get it onto vinyl and hope that the fans would like it. Cash and Waylon rarely “hit a foul ball”. The fans of yesteryear recognized and appreciated real, sincere music.
Waylon fought for and won the fight for artistic freedom back during a time when Nashville (namely Chet Atkins) wanted to control every teeny tiny aspect of an artists music. From the lyrics to the album covers, the clothes, the backing musicians on and on and in the end the artists net pay was just a tiny fraction of what it could’ve been. Or should’ve been.
Waylon broke out on his own along with Willie Nelson, Tompaul Glaser, Waylons wife Jesse Colter. Together these 4 released the double album “Wanted the Outlaws” in 1976. Not only were these 4 “Outlaws” able to find success after breaking away from the Nashville “Pimping operation”, but
“Wanted: The Outlaws” quickly became THE biggest selling country album OF ALL TIME. Now that’s what I call BADASS.

First ..Johnny Cash aka 'Man in Black' {John wore a lot of dark and black clothes} and Waylon Jennings {considered one of the first singers of outlaw country music} two of the best country had to offer. Checkout some songs by Waylon .. #Lukanbach, Texas .. #Theme to "Dukes of Hazzard" .. #Mental Revenge .. #Are Ya Sure Hank Done it This Way .. #Momma's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys .. and so many more.
Brothers Frank and Jesse James, both surviving the civil war {they fought for the confederacy; south} became outlaws/bank & train robbers afterwards. They teamed up with another family of outlaws, the Youngers. Outlaws we're hunted down by Pinkerton men during the time. Pinkerton was their version of the FBI. Brothers Bob and Charlie Ford wanted to join up with Jesse but we're turned away. It seems that Bob Ford was more in it for the notoriety than the money. So he and Charlie went to the Pinkerton and made a deal for the $5000 reward to bring Jesse in dead or alive. As the story goes .. the Fords pay Jesse and his wife a visit one day at their home. Probably sat down and had a meal with Jesse and disgust joining up again because they knew James needed some new blood after Cole Younger and his brothers we're injured while trying to rob a bank. When they we're through discussing business, Jesse stood up from the table and took his gun belt off {which some historians say he never did} and hung them up. He walks over to a picture hanging on a wall and begins to straighten it out. As he does this, Bob Ford pulls his gun out and shoots and saying "I killed Jesse James". For the next 10 years, Bob profited by telling his side of the story of how he killed him. However, Frank and Jesse we're admired by a lot of people. One man took a disliking to Bob Ford and so did the public. As Bob sat in a saloon, the man walked in and shot him to death as vengeance for killing Jesse. Frank eventually turned himself in and spent something like 10 years for bank robbery.

Jesse James was an outlaw in the old days. One of the fastest gun drawers.😅

"Don't Let the Sun Set on You in Tulsa." One of Waylon's early hits that I always loved. Check it out.

You need ta do more Waylon Jennings. We are mighty proud of him here in west Texas. By the way you are a cute little thing. I'd love to have a chicken fried steak with you.

Waylon was always haunted about the Buddy Holly plane crash, where he had given up his seat for The Big Bopper. Buddy joked with when he got on the plan and told Waylon that he hoped his bus broke down. Waylon joked back, "Well, I hop your plane crashes." Five minutes later, it did. He said that he was on a tour bus once and a young man sat down beside him. When he looked, he thought he was seeing a ghost. It was The Big Bopper's son. He asked Waylon to tell him about his father. Waylon said they talked for hours and that it was cathartic to be able to talk about it.

I’d like some fried chicken ‘bout now too. You know Johnny and Waylon used to share an apartment in Nashville. Waylon said Johnny cooked good breakfast.

Don't know Jesse James !! What do they teach kids in schools? Jesse was an outlaw after the civil war that robbed banks with his brother Frank and The Younger brothers. They were from Missouri. As for Johnny and Waylon you can never play enough. Waylon was part of the outlaw country movement of the 70's and 80's along with singers like Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Jr. Johnny was a star long before that fits with the outlaw group and may be the original. Johnny is known for his songs about jail and prison and actually did performances for prisoners.

For some reason listening to this made me think of Ronnie Millsap. I think you should check out a few of his songs... A little back story sad but interesting... Musician Ronnie Milsap was born blind and shunned by his mother, who believed his blindness was punishment from God. He was raised by his grandparents, learned Braille at the age of 6, and lost the last remnant of his sight after a blow from a teacher at school.

I mean how great is this song? Waylon was the coolest man in country music. And of course there's only one Johnny Cash.

Yes, Waylon was an absolute boss on that Telecaster. Hank Williams Jr. even recorded a song aptly named "Waylon's Guitar". Waylon, Johnny, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson formed a group in the 80's called "The Highwaymen", you should give them a listen.

Just a bit of knowledge here. The guitar that Waylon is playing is technically not a Telecaster. It is a Broadcaster, which was the original name of the guitar before a drum company with the same name forced Fender to change the name. There was a small period where the guitar had no name on the headstock. These were known as Nocasters. They are very rare.
That Broadcaster guitar is now owned by Keith Urban. Waylon gave it to his friend Reggie Young. Waylon said the guitar was just too damn heavy for him as he got older. Reggie ended up auctioning it off and Nicole Kidman bought it for $98.5k for Keith's birthday present.
