Back in 1999 my beautiful 1992 Black BMW 535i,5spd was stolen and never ever found. It probably wound up in Africa/ Mexico who knows where. Anyway it was my all time favorite BMW and im on my 15th BMW today and today's cars do not hold up like the older ones. Thanks for sharing Ethan you my friend are a class act. You single handley give TH-cam CLASS!!!
I had a truck stolen...two weeks latter I get a call at midnigjt from the sherriff dept. saying they have my truck and occupants pulled over in front of a grocery store and of I could get there within the hour I could drive it home. I was there in 15...they had the underage drivers in their patrol car and wouldn't tell me who they were. I drove my truck home...it was trashed but not mechanically damaged. USA.
I totally agree sir, and i really appreciate that you came up with all this information and the far responsibility lacking back systems. I am in Canada 🇨🇦 and encountered a similar problem, which eliminated after forcing me to pay $1500 as a rent for the fuckin towing yard. Interestingly, they showed mercy on me and some pity for my situation, therefore I am and will be thankful to them along with a lifelong feeling of being grateful to me because the total amount they asked for was $2500 and a few above. The thing was my car had a worth of somewhat between $150-$200, which was towed away from a free parking lot when it parked there due to frond 'AXLE' broke down, that too with the permission, concern and knowledge of the Authorize Personal present there at very early morning with the time around 3 o'clock, i left my car there and acknowledged them to get it two days later , after completing my semester examinations. But i don't understand why it happened because as i promised after two days i went there on the third morning , I was confused because I didn't confirm my feeling whether I was confused or shocked after seeing my car was not there at the parking lot. I run here and there in the Parking Lot to find my car and figure it out whether it was stolen or move somewhere else. Unfortunately, after spending 10 to 15 minutes I came to know it was towed away and after getting that I was shocked because I left my car over there with the permission of and acknowledging the security guard present on duty at that time after that I patrolled the whole parking lot to find the authorized company that towed my car away. Finding the company I contacted them and they said that I need to pay $280 to get my car back but I told them that it was not worth of paying that amount and getting the car back as the car cost was far much lower than the price they charged me . So I acknowledged them that I couldn't pay that amount, however ,I was planning to get rid of the car so they can sell it to the scrap yard with the other cars from their yard going there and the amount they get from selling my car could be used to pay the money they asked me for and the payment issue would be solved. But they didn't respond to me properly neither yes nor no and never contacted me back regarding this issue or informed me about my car. But after 3 months they started contacting me back again and claimed for $2,500, after refusing the payment, they started threatening me my saying that I would have to face legal consequences and enforcements but when I went to the office and complained that it was not my fault in any way and I parked my car over there with the permission and got back there within the allotted time, moreover when contacted them for the very first time then itself I refused to pay and after that I was never informed even nobody got in touch with me from their office acknowledging me about the payment ,even neither they didn't accepted my proposal to sell the car to a scrap yard and clear the payment nor informed about the refusal to sell the car to scrap. And then my words were that now after 3 months you are claiming a $2,500, that too for a car that has a highest said worth of $200. Cleverly, they said that it was my responsibility to pay it and be in touch when I said that when I told them to ride off the car and clear their payment then I didn't got any refusal or denial for my proposal and respected person I talked to, about it on that day sounded like he was satisfied and agreed with my statement. Furthermore, if I would have been informed about the car not being sold to the scrap yard and I am being charged for every single day the car was sitting there in their yard, I would have definitely figured out a way and got this f****** situation off my head. Come on, "DUMB SYSTEM " nobody is such a dumb ass or a f****** stupid that would prefer to pay a f****** grand total of $2,500 instead of getting rid of their dumb ass by paying $280. They'll agree to the whole drama and made themselves as a god and had mercy on me buy charging only $1,500 and acted do you have shown a great pity for me. Actually , it is just a planned strategy of that company for making some effortless money by just doing a s***. Actually, sure you know this is the first time I'm discussing this inciden whereas, in other means for the first time this information about this incident came out from my mind because it was just kept in my mind like a secret and that's all came out because of you, I really appreciate "ETHANSFROMLONDON" that you came up such openly describing the system with such a fault in it and I'm pretty sure that several other guys I mean all these our friends, brothers, sisters, families, relatives and the folks here have had experienced, recognized or encountered similar problems or issues but never came up with an approach to anybody to discuss it with someone because the communities feel it as a great shame or a dishonorable moment of failure but I need to say that we all should come up and know the problems in the communities happening with one or the other of us and someday similar is experienced by us so we shouldn't wait the shity thing to happen to us or our family or to any loved one instead we should come together and stand together in front of these social issues, which are destroying our social means and social families, thank you. Please don't mind and I apologize in advance because if i would have had unintentionally or unwillingly sisturbed or hurt the feelings or emotions of anybody, the social ethics or any Community's emotions.
I am surprised the insurance company did not take possession of the car. Since they paid you on the policy the car should have belonged to them to either return to you with you returning the settlement or if you no longer wanted the car so they could compensate themselves for the claim by selling it.
i do not doubt your recollection of events but...If the Police rang you to say they "found" the car , why would they let it be impounded by a third party at your expense prior to notifying you? If however it had been impounded prior to the Police "finding" it then why was the Impounding company not charged with Handling stolen goods given that there is a database of stolen vehicles and there are ways they could/should have checked before clamping which would have highlighted the car as stolen. Also if you are able to prove how much the car sold for why did you not sue your insurance company (and/or the Impounding company) for the balance under the legal term Unjust Enrichment? After all the job of the insurance company is to return you to the position you were in prior to the theft. and finally Did the Impounding company steal the picture of the car from your video too? ;)
It was impounded for several days / weeks before they informed the police. This is the trick they use and the government and the police don't care because it is the insurance company that pays. Believe me I tried everything including writing to the local MP, DVLA, Police but no one took any action. I later found out this is a standard way of stealing a car and making it legal so I made this video.
@@EthanFromLondon Well Ethan there is potential mileage (pardon the pun) in making a BBC Panorama investigation into this if there are many more cases. Although i'm in media this would not be my field of expertise. I am very grateful to you for bringing it to the attention of the public in such a professional manner, a delight to watch. Kind regards
I have two issues you may be interested in which link to the points you've raised. 1. Whilst driving along the M25 I became ill and experienced double vision and had to pull over. When the paramedic and Highways Agency arrived I was taken to hospital for tests and told the vehicle would be left outside the hospital for me. In fact a third party impound company took it and held it ransom for £120. As I was stranded I had no choice but pay up. 2. The letter you received from the DVLA raises a whole other level of criminality. There have been cases where thieves have found owners who are abroad (long stay parking at London airports was one place targetted) and have expensive cars and written to the DVLA claiming transfer of ownership using a V62 form. The letter sent by the DVLA to the real owner has to be responded to within a set time or else the thief becomes the legal owner. As they're abroad they can't respond in time, the thief then uses the DVLA document stating they are the registered keeper to get keys made, take the car and sell it. All before the real owner knows what's happening. This is just one exmaple,a syou'll see fromt he second link there has been this known flaw going back OVER 2 DECADES! www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4308778/Supercar-thief-jailed-four-years.html www.computing.co.uk/ctg/news/1821045/thieves-exploit-dvla-holes
