Ran some circuits & carrier practice with friends today. This is amazing for a free mod! Great plane for formation flying. Set 20 on all my curves. As far as I know the NWS is a hold for hi gain, carrier ops. If you're not holding it down it's way less sensitive. Thanks for the procedures, great stuff as always.
Thanks Dan! Yeah, it’s above and beyond for a free project. Puts more than a few payware products to shame ha. I’ve been having great fun with it. Were you guys flying shared cockpit? If so, how did you get on there? Haven’t has a chance to try that myself yet. I suspect you’re right re the NWS hold. If I recall though, initially I was getting almost zero steering authority without it pressed (and no indication on the caution panel) my memory may have failed me on that though. I didn’t use it on the straights, but the aircraft still felt very sensitive. Glad you enjoyed the vid. Happy 3-wire landings! ; )
Multicrew works as well. Excellent for training. Thanks for the review. I really like this jet. I took it river racing at Poti on the Caucasus map. Rules are you must stay below tree top level as much as possible and between the river banks or get disqualified. Great fun in a prop plane, and almost doable in a jet. :) Thanks again!
Great to hear, looking forward to trying it with a buddy at some point then. Sounds fun, I’ll have to give that one a go at some point myself! My pleasure on the review, glad you enjoyed the vid. Cheers Michael, all the best! : )
Ah ok, something to look forward to for sure then! I guess if one is just using it for instruction etc, then really it’s already good enough, so long as someone is able to sit in the back. Cheers : )
Thanks for the quick review! Been eagerly awaiting this one for years now. The payware C-101 is excellent, but since it doesn't have a tailhook or modern avionics, my heart's never really been in it. This one, though, helps live the dream :) p.s.: for carrier aircraft, there's never a flare at landing, even for shore ops. Trim it stable to the middle of the E-bracket/AoA donut and fly it straight down to the deck. Approved landing sink rate on Hornet is upwards of -800 fpm! Reason for the no-flare is to keep the tailhook angled correctly to catch a wire, etc.
My pleasure! Awesome module. I'll consider myself lucky then, I only become aware of its existence very recently (haven't had to wait patiently for years!). Thanks; I know they don't flare onto the carrier, I didn't realise it was the same for a shore landing. When you jump into an aircraft in DCS, you know the fidelity is going to be there. When they release 2.7 as full, I will probably spend more time (again) in the superb mission planner! IMHO comparing MSFS military aircraft with these, leaves one a certain winner...and we know which one!;)
I see DCS, MSFS, and Il-2 Great Battles as complementary. Each let you do different things, that the other two don't have. MSFS's big strength is you can do VFR navigation globally, and in many different weather conditions, while still keeping good system modeling. So, the MSFS T-45 let's you go through basic flight, navigation, and aircraft operation, then you can go to the DCS version and work on more of the USN operations and carrier landings. I'm likely going to do something similar with one of the MSFS warbirds as well. It's also interesting/wierd to track down the old WWII runways (or even the WWI Aerodromes) in modern days. One of the ones I used a lot in the Kuban map is just a marsh now, with power lines running over it.
Agreed David, DCS is the clear winner when it comes to military aircraft. Then again, it is it’s “raison d’etre” haha. Generally speaking though, DCS definitely has some of the best flight modelling in the business. I think in fairness to MSFS developers, they obviously don’t have the tools and the platform available to them, that DCS developer et al do. The mission editor is excellent as well as you say! We are rather in a golden age of flight simulation at the moment it seems. That’s an interesting idea actually; exploring locations in various sims and seeing how they’ve changed over the years. Generally, I find DCS flight models to be in the top tier of any addon for any sim. Relative to the addons in MSFS so far, DCS' are far and away better/more realistic. The devs for MSFS are still getting up to speed on it's complex (and unfinished) aero model, so we'll see the gap start to close over time.
@@urgentsiesta7606 Didn't clarify this, but I meant the default content and well in the case of DCS the official modules (e.g. the F-18). Mods can always be a bit hit or miss in any game to be fair
