      Indeed they shouldn’t be. It can be a bit of a tricky balance though; I don’t want to denigrate peoples work unnecessarily, but of course I feel my primary concern is my audience. So I try to provide balanced and accurate feedback, that’s fair to both sides.
      That’s why I like to try and do everything “by the book” as well. That way, if something doesn’t work, the developer can’t really feel too hard done by, as I’m just pointing out something that doesn’t work as it would in the aircraft. I try my best to be objective anyway (of course there are always some things that are purely subjective though).
      Anyway, I’m very happy to hear that you feel the reviews are fair and to the point. That’s certainly the aim.
      Thanks very much again and all the best to you! : )

    I worked at NAS Meridian, I touch T-45C nose number 163 many times, that model is almost perfect, the only flaw I see is the pull down step, it comes straight down not at an angle. This is outstanding work, those intake and exhaust covers, look like the ones we took on detachments, outstanding.

      Yeah, they certainly are! Particularly impressive from a smaller developer. A couple of adjustments as mentioned (and ideally a little more optimisation on the frames, although I suspect that might be rather more Asobos fault) and this product would be almost faultless! : )

    I'm only a "sim pilot", and far from one who is yet into an awful lot of depth as far as operating any of the aircraft I've been flying in sims, but your reviews are the most balanced I've seen, as well as maintaining a level of objectivity not seen in most others here on TH-cam. They definitely will play a part in any aircraft I buy for the sim.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you videotrexx, that’s very kind of you to say!
      I didn’t really set out for the channel to be specifically geared towards reviews haha, but I seem to be finding my own little niche. I enjoy it and I like the challenge of learning a new aircraft etc, so it’s all good by me! I like to (try and) let the product speak for itself. I don’t want to unnecessarily denigrate someone’s hard work, ultimately developers need to put food on the table as well (and I don’t think most of them set out to make a bad product). But I figure, if I just operate the aircraft by the book and try and remain objective, the results will speak for themselves. People can then see if the product is worth their hard-earned money. I think it’s a fair approach all-round.
      Glad you’re enjoying the content and welcome aboard! We’re all “sim pilots” here! ; )

    Thank you again for a very well done review. I purchased the plane a couple of days ago and do enjoy it. I managed to get the plane running from just memory of having the P3D version a few years ago.
    I would like to also praise you on the professional way you present your videos, so may creators present a review by starting from scratch the first time they start the plane up and work it out on the fly (sorry about the pun). You however appear to do some research before hand an can present in a very fluid way. Thank you again.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much Anton! Glad to hear you’re enjoying the Goshawk.
      It’s really nice to get positive feedback and people appreciating the review style. I certainly try and do my homework, had to put myself through a crash course on how to fly the Goshawk the other day haha (on that note; you must have a great memory if you managed to start it up, not having flown it in years!)
      Ultimately I just figure it’s the fairest way to review a product. I’m not looking to bad mouth anybodies work unnecessarily, I don’t think most developers set out to make a bad product. Most put a lot of work in, even if the end result isn’t what we as simmers were hoping for (and they do need to earn a living as well). But I try my best to operate the aircraft by the book, that way if any issues occur, I can be somewhat more certain it’s a fault with the product and not user error (the developer can’t really feel too hard done by then). It also allows people to clearly see the fidelity of the product etc. To each their own of course, but I too find it a bit frustrating when a product gets reviewed off the cuff and you’re watching someone try and find a switch and you already know where it is etc etc haha. That being said, I am lucky enough to have a lot of free time at the moment and I know a lot of people don’t; so they probably don’t have the luxury of sitting down for half a day with a virtual Goshawk manual ha.
      Anyway, really glad to hear you’re enjoying the content, thanks very much for your kind feedback once again. I shall endeavour to keep it up!
      All the best : )

    Great review again and with all the new release aircraft incoming for MSFS , its great to have someone , such as yourself , to review them .
    Yes , the exterior jet engine sounds did sound a bit peculiar ( actually , brought back memories of the sound that occurred when loading software , from a cassette player , into my Oric Atmos PC during the mid 1980s , LoL !! ) .
    As regards the stall , the developers should have taken a look at the FlyingIron Sim Spitfire , probably the best aeroplane stall characteristics in the game at present !!
    Really nice Jet otherwise !!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much once again! Glad you’re still finding the reviews useful. It’s been a busy week or so for sure haha! : )
      Yes, quite an odd sound isn’t it. I can’t attest to it sounding like an Oric Atmos, but I have a handheld vacuum cleaner that doesn’t sound dissimilar ha. It’s a shame, external sound doesn’t meet the standard of the rest of the product. As you say, otherwise it’s a really nice jet.
      Indeed, I don’t know what FlyingIron did to get that stall behaviour and also those frame rates, I can only assume they’ve employed a wizard!

    Great reveiw , still the best reveiwer of MSFS products, very clear and very detailed and does his homework before recording. Although a good aircraft, I still find for me the Fiat is still my go to. For me the Goshawk still has a FSX look and feel about it, The cockpit mainly. I may hold off on this due to already haveing the Fiat, but I watched your reveiw because of the proffessionalism that always comes through in your reveiws. Thank you

      I certainly try and do my homework, put myself through a crash-course in how to fly a Goshawk yesterday haha, was good fun though. It’s funny how differently we all see things; I love the cockpit in the T45, in fact it’s my favourite thing about the aircraft haha. To each their own though of course! The Fiat is still a great jet, and frankly, it’s a lot more fun to fly.

      We just need a “proper” carrier in MSFS now. But the SDK needs some work first I gather. . .
      It’s nice as well, as you can fly it from the front or back. So I guess with the freeware shared cockpit tool, you genuinely could go off together and do some training etc.

Liked & subbed, I would love to see a video someday on the best version of the aircraft which is the British Aerospace systems T1 & T2 onwards. Yes, I’ve just been flying the VNAO T45 in DCS and the feel in the controls / responsiveness is just night and day from the IFE version. I can’t say for sure which one is more accurate (I suspect DCS), but the DCS version certainly feels much more like I would imagine the aircraft to feel.

      Haha well, it sounds like you were teaching back in the good old days, when geography the subject, still included lessons on. . . geography. I remember my geography teacher being genuinely appalled, that nobody could point out Egypt on a world map; I don’t think it had occurred to him that, between the lessons on basket weaving in Malawi and the strengths / weaknesses of gabions vs groins in preventing coastal erosion, he’d never actually taken the time to teach us where anything was haha (not his fault of course, I’m sure he was obliged to teach the syllabus, as decreed by Her Majesty’s government) XD

At the end, they could not write in cursive, though it was required for the state exam. I used maps and had them make maps where the modern nations were in a history unit. Still, speaking from personal experience, the teachers who go above and beyond, are always the ones you remember for the rest of your life (for all the *right* reasons haha). I’m sure I’m being “old fashioned”, but I think it’s far more important to have some appreciation of where everything sits on a map and to understand how planet Earth actually functions. Yeah those external sounds are pretty anemic. Plane looks pretty good but I'm gonna wait to see how the Just Flight effort compares as I much prefer the older cockpit they are going for with the T1, plus it wouldn't feel right slapping a Red Arrows livery on the navalised Goshawk! Nice review, thank you. I've already got the MBB-339 so was watching this with interest, however a hawk rather than a goshawk appeals to me more because of all the RAF liveries I can then use. Now just need to wait for JustFlight and their T1/T1A and see how that compares.

      Yeah, same here really. My heart is with the Hawk, being a Brit. I’d prefer to have RAF liveries and I generally like the older avionics (although the T45 could be nice for doing some long(ish) cruises with its rather nice MFDs). I still wanted to support IFE though, as they’re a smaller developer and they’ve been producing some really nice products. Ive actually never tried the Just Flight Hawk previously, but it looks excellent and I hear good things. Definitely planning to review it when the time comes : )

      It does, doesn’t it. The whole thing is obviously pretty crude in its implementation. I believe the author of the HDS carrier module does plan all these sorts of things in the future, but right now the sims SDK just doesn’t support them.
      The whole thing was just a bit of fun though, and you can’t really review a Goshawk and not depart from a carrier! Obviously DCS would be much better for this sort of thing though generally speaking.

And VNAO is releasing a T-45 for DCS within the next month... fully carrier/Supercarrier capable. But still a mod, so we'll see how good it is (even though the devs are a hardcore mil-sim group, so I don't think they'd put out crap). Fighters have a corner speed usually around 350-430 knots where they get the best rate of turn. Also pitot goes on when temperature is below 0C and there is visible moisture, and oxygen goes on above 10,000 feet. It's not needed below that. Spin is induced by rudder. Yawing forces one wing to accelerate more than the other, while the other loses lift, causing the plane to rapidly roll and pitch down from the stall. An incipient spin.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Neon! Yeah it's definitely a valid point re the corner speed; whilst I have no real-world experience on high-performance jets, I have spent enough time in DCS to say that I think the IFE T45 flight model feels off though. I have subsequently flown the VNAO T45 in DCS and the two feel very different (with the VNAO version feeling much closer to how I imagine the real aircraft would fly (though this could be an incorrect assumption on my part).
      Re the other points (if you're interested). Pitot heat and oxygen operation were as per the T45 checklist (a real-world one I believe). Pitot heat requirements tend to vary from aircraft to aircraft, with some having an operating window and some having it on throughout the entire flight (most commercial jets for example). You're correct re oxygen generally only being required (from a physiological point of view) above 10,000ft, but again the checklist called for it on throughout the flight. 1) I suspect so it's there when you do need it - I'd imagine the system meters it out accordingly anyway. 2) I believe on the T45, the switch actually controls the "OBOGS" system / the G-suit pressurisation - which I guess you would want on throughout the flight. Again though, I'm not T45 expert; this is just based on the little reading I've done, of the T45 documentation provided with the addon. It may be that you know more than me about the aircraft. . .
      On the spin, for sure you can induce one more readily with rudder input - it isn't necessarily required though.
      Just my two pennies worth, you can take it or leave it at your leisure of course!
      All the best : )

    Interesting thing is that MilViz did most of the graphics modeling for this one rather than IFE. Great to see theyre still on top of their game. Will be cool to try out their F4U Corsair when it releases in the next week or so(?).
    I haven't had a chance to install this one yet, but am definitely looking forward to it. Nice thing is that there's a lot of similarity in the MFD's, and even cockpit layout, to the Hornet, so all that time i've got in DCS Hornet should be put to good use.
    Bummer about the non-collimated HUD, as the FPM and E bracket are incredibly helpful for CV landings. They were totally out of whack for your approach, but I noticed similar behavior on vids re the DCD Eagle - it just doesn't seem to work well.
    Agree on the engine sound. To my ears it sounded like an ancient computer game airplane engine - aurally annoying.
    Flight model, though decent for normal maneuvers, does seem marginal at the edges. But as noted, most MSFS aircraft seem to have problems out there, too. Hope that gets fixed by Asobo sooner rather than later.
    All in all, for $30, I think it's worth the buy and should be a ton of fun to fly around.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I noticed that MilViz had done the modelling, as it states it in the manual. I was a little surprised, but as you say they’ve done an excellent job, so it’s all fine by me! Looking forward to giving the Corsair a go as well!
      The HUD is a shame, but nothing to be done there really at the moment. A few people have mentioned the FPV / E bracket; I don’t know if that was me doing something wrong, or the HUD not displaying correctly? I’m not really very familiar with carrier ops / aircraft. It didn’t feel quite right though.
      Indeed, the engine sound is a real shame as it rather lets the addon down. I hope they address it in their first update. It’s bizarre that it passed muster, given the quality of the rest of the product.
      As you say re the flight model, good enough for cruising around. As with most MSFS aircraft this is the case. It just falls apart at the extremes of the envelope (not ideal on a combat jet though admittedly, a little more tolerable on a C152).
      Overall I think the aircraft is a quality product and reasonable value. It’s just not quite as much fun to fly as I was expecting though, given the “heavy” controls. Particularly in pitch, it rather feels like you don’t have full elevator authority.
      I’ve been enjoying my time in it though, the cockpit and MFDs are really nice. I’ve just been using it more as a “fast cruiser”, than something to be chucking around valleys etc.
      If you do pick it up, hope you enjoy it! : )

      Yeah, the carrier is the freeware Superspud version. A nice little freeware package, but you need a payware module (either the HDS Carrier Module, or Kinetic Assistant) to have working launch / recovery. Kinetic Assistant is good, as it’s much more versatile overall (can do winch launches for gliders etc also). At some point we should be getting a free carrier though yeah.

    I don't know if this is a fault with HDS but once in tension, the launch bar should be set to "Up". I also wish they'd have an animated crew like they did in FSX and a "salute/shooter" hot key instead of the parking brake being the launch.

    Anyone interested in flying the T-45 Charlie should also check out the VNAO DCS mod. You can get both DCS and the VNAO T-45C mod for free. I’ve never flown MSFS at all but from this review it looks like the VNAO has slightly lower interior model quality but the flight experience in DCS might actually be better. If you’re willing to pay for the Super Carrier module it is light years ahead of what’s available in MSFS. On the other hand, DCS can’t hook up to VATSIM. The training bombs, rockets, and gun tone are modeled in DCS so you can do some A/A and A/G training. Would be really cool to see a comparison for us T-45C fans, I’m not sure I’ve ever heard from someone who’s flown both.

As you can see from the video title, I know where the capitalisation lies within the company name. It’s just a bit of “tongue twister” when said quickly and doesn’t come naturally (at least to me) stressing the “T” at the end of Fox.

The awkward spelling of the name gets a big Whiskey Tango Foxtrot from me.

    The real Goshawk is supposed to feature an aileron-rudder interconnect (Like the F-14Delta) to lessen the stress and workload on the already-stressed students. Also, usually on their first trap on the carrier, the instructor will not be in the jet. Logic being: Killing one pilot is favorable to killing two. It costs over a million dollars US to train one Naval combat pilot.

I would have thought it reality it would continue to run, but I’ve never come across a GTS in the real-world. I wait just until the GTS start audio has peaked and then hit the engine starter. That procedure works for me.

I have flown the freeware DCS version in the intervening period and that one was created by a team who actually have time on the jet. Feels much more like what I was expecting.
      I like the IFE T45, but I don’t find it all that much “fun” to fly sadly. I thought the flight model would probably get an update in due course, but it seems not. Presumably IFE are happy with the accuracy of it on their end then and who knows, maybe it is accurate. . .

If I had to guess, I expect Sim Update 7 may have introduced the issue - I know it’s caused some other issues with the T-45. It sounds like it’s a clikspot issue that you’re having? Might be worth turning off “Lens Correction” in your sim settings and see if that helps (apparently the Lens Correction setting is causing clickspots to be more fiddly than they used to be). Otherwise it will most likely just be a case of waiting for India Foxt Echo to fix up the aircraft I’m afraid.

      TACAN has never been implemented into MS flight sims, they have always substituted the VOR Freq. If you have a VOR to TACAN conversion chart or have charts that display TACAN channels along with VOR Frequency then you can use them. Most sim military planes use VOR just fine and if they have a TACAN control box (like the T-45C has) then you can put in the channel number and it will work.

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations I really don't think Asobo have working TACAN beacons. They seem to transmit range, when you tune the corresponding VOR frequency, but no bearing whatsoever. Can you run a test with the TACAN receivers and try to fly on TACAN bearing and range. There are military bases in the UK that have TACAN (I use Littlenavmap to identify them). If you can determine that they function in these military jets, I will consider grabbing them. After all, if I'm flying a military jet, I want to fly to military bases! BTW your Mach loop flight in the 339 was top notch! The turns were crisp. I'd like to see the difference with the T45? If it's lumpy, you won't make the same turns! Cheers!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ran a few more tests for you David. In short, the results are so inconsistent and sketchy, that it’s easier to say; it’s essentially broken. From what I’ve found, if it’s a TACAN, with a “normal” frequency associated with it, you can get a bearing and DME off it, but it’s so fiddly to tune using the TACAN radio (without using cockpit tooltips), that you might as well just tune up using the NAV radio instead (as that’s all you’re really doing with the TACAN radio currently anyway). Also, you can select multiple different frequencies and they will show as the same channel on the TACAN radio. So again, without tooltips you won’t really know what you’re tuned in to. Trying to tune up a straight TACAN channel is basically a non starter. For all intents and purposes, I would regard it as INOP currently.
      I won’t put up a full video of the T45 on the Mach Loop just yet. But if you’d really like to compare, I’m happy to film a quick run (when I can) and link you to the unedited footage?

      Wether this would make it a bit heavier on the controls? No Idea I'm afraid, it's just conjecture on my part. Personally I am reasonably happy with the handling in the mid to high speed range. In fact, as far as I can tell, this is the only way you can insert waypoints at the moment (I did spend some time trying to enter a manual one).

I’m somewhat familiar with HUDs from DCS (though mostly land-based aircraft) and the HUD in the T45 certainly felt a bit “off” and clunky to me. @@IntotheBlueSimulations it was a bug. You flew a visual approach and watched where your aimpoint was, yet the flightpath marker showed you would be much further down the deck than you actually trapped. So the flightpath marker doesn't seem right in that sim, hopefully it'll get fixed up. As for the aircraft attitude on landing, you did a 3-point landing but carrier aircraft land on two wheels because they must have a particular descent angle in order for the hook to catch the wire. With a 3 degree descent and a 5 degree nose pitch up the Angle-of-Attack is around 8 degrees and with only a degree or so of tolerance either way or the hook won't catch. Hi Jay,
      Yes, overall it’s a nice little jet. I haven’t had a chance to try the updated version - I gather the handling and sounds have been improved (though perhaps still not on a par with the DCS VNAO version).
      For the launch / recovery, a payware tool is required (either HDS Carrier Module or Kintetic Assistant). The implementation is fairly crude for both of these though (and I haven’t tried either with the latest version of the sim). I think until we get the “Top Gun” update for the sim, carrier ops are going to remain rudimentary at best.

      To some degree you’re right CaptainSpork. I certainly wouldn’t expect the aircraft to be as manoeuvrable at high speed. Are there any flight recorders/replay systems that work without the 'juddering' shown in your video replay? I've tried two payware ones and they simply don't record at a high enough rate (need 10 per second at a guess) to give a smooth replay, especially at high speed in the F15. Roll rate looks reasonable on the Goshawk, but the other controls look very weak. Should be fixable by the developer. On the F15 it took a while to get the inertia correct.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello again Colin,
      Is there any specific video section you are referring to re the juddering? I can’t say I’ve noticed it too much myself. If it’s the sections near the carrier group (particularly the landing), it might be the FPS as much as anything (the large number of ships seems to eat up the frames). I think I’m my recent Corsair tutorial for example, it seems smooth enough? Anyway, I’m currently using this recorder:
      forums.flightsimulator.com/t/release-flight-recorder-free-replay-tool/365957
      SkyDolly is another one I’ve been meaning to try. . . They’re both free (I believe Sky Dolly is), so worth trying out if you haven’t already.

      @ColinDyckes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations 28:20 on the replay of the landing shows the jerkiness perfectly. Nothing else in-frame so it looks to me as if the flight data isn't recorded often enough (I know you have some control of this but only by sacrificing record duration). With fast SSDs, let alone 64GB of RAM that is less than half utilised it would be nice to be able to record at at least 10 per second and get a smooth replay.
      Like you, I want to record a whole flight from cockpit or trail view and then replay to create a composite video from different viewpoints. An example would be the Mach Loop and hilltop photographer views.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure if it’s not just this specific video Colin. In other videos where I’ve used the tool, it looks ok to me; as smooth as the sim itself is anyway. . .
      It could just be that I don’t have an eye for these things though haha, some people pick up on certain things more than others (models, textures, audio, FPS etc).
      It still beats the pants off the P3D replay system, I know that much haha. Obviously we can only do the best with what we have for now. Maybe the the native replay function (when it finally arrives) will be better : )

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fabio,
      For the engine start, you need to first engage the GTS (gas turbine starter). Again you can assign a keypress to this; the manual explains, but I think maybe it was something like “APU Master”. Once the GTS has spooled up, you can then hit the engine start switch and once you reach around 15-20% on the rpm, you can move the throttle into the idle detent (as discussed on the other thread). I hope that helps. Again any issues, let me know and I will try the start process in the aircraft myself when I get the chance.

It flies reasonably nicely, but it seems to lack elevator authority to me and generally seems a bit underpowered. Not very favourably I would say. I do like the IFE T45, but the flight model (and the sounds) falls rather flat. It has very little interest in high rate turns etc and just feels generally heavy and underpowered.

      Haha, yeah unfortunately it’s pretty poor isn’t it.
      They did update the aircraft, including engine sounds, but it’s not a whole lot better from what I’ve seen. Strange that it is *so* off, when the rest of the product is done to a nice standard. I don’t know if you’ve seen, but VNAO released a T45 for DCS recently. Now THAT’S how you do engine sounds! It sounds amazing.
      Cheers Becky, all the best! : )
